The king always listens to the teachers, following the prescribed rules.
Of the land ruled by the king, when protected by righteousness.
Once, that king went hunting in a great forest.
By fate, in that forest, he found no game and became extremely weary.
Then, seeing a dried-up lake there, he reflected.
How might there be water here, by which I, the king, could survive?
Then, digging a pit the size of his hand, he obtained water.
There was also a minister named Bhūmiśa, called Buddhisāgara.
O King, this lotus-pond was once filled with rainwater.
Therefore, O sinless one, may you be pleased, lord, and give me your command.
The king rejoiced greatly and was eager to do it himself.
Then, by the king’s order, Buddhisāgara also joyfully—
—made it fifty bows in length and breadth on all sides.
Having constructed that lake, he reported everything to the king.
Thirsty travelers, O king, found pure water there.
Having wiped away his sins, he went to the world of the Lord of the World, my master.
But Citragupta reported all those deeds to me.
Therefore, he is worthy here to ascend the chariot of righteousness.
Buddhisāgara ascended the chariot named Righteousness.
Having died, he came to my abode and joyfully offered his respects.
Citragupta has described the dharma that arose from the pond.
On the slope, O king, beyond the sandy mountain—
Then, after some time, by that boar, O best of kings—
After that, at another time, by that same boar, a pair of ponds was made here.
They were drunk by small forest-dwelling creatures, tormented by thirst.
A pit three hand-lengths deep was dug there, and more water was made.
You arrived there after the water had dried up.
Then, by the instruction of your minister, O king, you—
And trees were planted there, benefitting all people.
Mounted upon a righteous celestial chariot, you ascended that vehicle.
