दधानां दक्षिणैर्हस्तैर्ध्यायेद्देवीमनन्यधीः
With her right hands placed in offering, one should meditate on the goddess with undistracted mind.
त्वरितोयान्त्यमाद्यं स्याद्युतिदोहचरस्वयुक्
Swiftly, the final and the first should be joined, endowed with radiance, milk, and movement.
मरुत्स्वयुक्तो मध्याढ्यो दशम्याः परतः पुनः
Joined with the Maruts, the middle is enriched; after the tenth, again.
षडक्षराणि त्वरिता तृतीयं तदनन्तरम्
The six syllables are to be recited swiftly, the third immediately thereafter.
उक्ता नीलपताकाख्या नित्या सप्तदशाक्षरी
This, called the Nīlapatākā, is the eternal seventeen-syllabled mantra.
श्रोत्रादिनासायुगले वाचि कण्ठे हृदि क्रमात्
In the ears, then the pair of nostrils, in the speech, throat, and heart, in order,
मन्त्राक्षराणि क्रमशो न्यसेत्सप्तदशापि च
One should place, in sequence, the seventeen syllables of the mantra.
इन्द्रनीलनिभां भास्वन्मणिमौलिविराजिताम्
She shines with the hue of blue sapphire, adorned with a radiant gem crown.
दशहस्तां लसन्मुक्तामण्याभरणमण्डिताम्
She has ten hands, adorned with sparkling pearl and jewel ornaments.
पाशं पताकां चर्मापि शार्ङ्गचापं वरं करैः
In her hands are a noose, a banner, a shield, the Śārṅga bow, a boon,
अङ्कुशे च तथा शर्क्ति खङ्गं बाणं तथाभयम्
An elephant goad, a spear, a sword, an arrow, and the gesture of fearlessness.
स्वाकारवर्णवेषास्यपाण्यायुधविभूषणैः
Her form, face, hands, weapons, and ornaments are marked by the letters of her own syllables.
त्रिषट्कोणयुतं पद्ममष्टपत्रं ततो बहिः
Outside that is a lotus with eight petals, joined with three triangles.
चतुर्द्वारयुतं दिक्षु शाखाभिश्च समन्वितम्
It is furnished with four gates in the directions, and is adorned with branches.
एषा ते द्वादशी नित्या प्रोक्ता नीलपताकिनी
This is your eternal Dvādaśī, called Nīlapatākinī.
वेतालयक्षिणीचेटपिशाचादिप्रसाधिनी
She bestows favor on vetālas, yakṣiṇīs, attendants, piśācas, and others.
अथ त्रयोदेशीं नित्यां वक्ष्यामि शृणु नारद
Now I shall tell you of the eternal Trayodaśī; listen, O Nārada.
खेन युक्ता भवेन्नित्या विजयैकाक्षरा मुने
Endowed with 'kha', the eternal one becomes the single-syllabled Vijaya, O sage.
शेषाभ्यां च द्वयं कुर्यात्षडङ्गानि कराङ्गयोः
With the two remaining, one should form a pair, the six parts on the fingers of the hand.
अक्षराणि क्रमाद्बिन्दुयुतान्यन्यत्तु पूर्ववत्
The syllables, in order, each with a dot, and the rest as before.
भास्वन्मुकुटविन्यासचन्द्रलेखाविराजिताम्
Adorned with a shining crown, resplendent with a crescent moon.
उद्यद्भास्वद्बिंबतुल्यदेहकान्तिं शुचिस्मिताम्
With a radiant body like the rising, shining orb, and a pure smile.
चक्रं तथाङ्कुशं खङ्गं सायकं मातुलुं गकम्
A discus, an elephant goad, a sword, an arrow, and a citron fruit.
उपासनेति सौम्यां च सिंहोपरि कृतासनाम्
She is to be worshipped as gentle, seated upon a lion.
समरे पूजने ऽन्येषु प्रयोगेषु सुखासनाम्
In battle, in worship, and in other rites, she is comfortably seated.
सर्वा देव्याः समाकारमुखपाण्यायुधा अपि
All the goddess's forms, faces, hands, and weapons as well.
शाखष्टकसमोपेतं तत्र प्राग्वत्समर्चयेत्
With eight branches, as before, one should worship there.
तदन्तश्च तथा पद्मं षोडशच्छदसंयुतम्
And within that, likewise, a lotus with sixteen petals.
तत्तच्छक्त्या वृतां सम्यगुपचारैस्तथार्चयेत्
One should properly worship those, each surrounded by its own power, with offerings.
चतुर्दशीं प्रवक्ष्ये ऽथ नित्यां वै सर्वमङ्गलाम्
Now I will describe the fourteenth, the eternal, the all-auspicious one.
