उत्पलैर्वशयेद्विश्वं क्षारैर्मध्वाश्रितैः स्त्रियम्
With blue lotus flowers, one can subdue the world; with alkaline substances mixed with honey, one can enchant women.
क्षीराक्तैरमृताखण्डैर्हेमान्नाशयति ज्वरम्
With milk-anointed, immortal fragments, one destroys fever.
कदंबैर्वश्यमाप्नोति सर्वं त्रिमधुरप्लुतम्
With kadamba flowers, one attains mastery over all, everything being suffused with triple sweetness.
निंबप्रसूनैर्जुहुयादीप्सितश्रीसमृद्धये
One should offer neem blossoms into the fire for the attainment of desired prosperity and wealth.
चन्दनागुरुकस्तूरी चन्द्रकुङ्कुमरोचनाः
Sandalwood, agarwood, musk, camphor, saffron, and yellow pigment—
निर्गुण्डीमूलहोमेन निगडान्मुच्यते नरः
By offering the root of nirguṇḍī in the fire, a person is freed from shackles.
हरिद्राचूर्णसंमिश्रैर्लवणैः स्तंभयेज्जगत्
By mixing turmeric powder with salt, one can immobilize the world.
अवतारान्तरं भूयो वर्णयामि निशामय
Now I will describe another incarnation; listen attentively.
वतिवह्निप्रियामन्त्रो धूमावत्या गजाक्षरः
The mantra dear to fire, associated with Dhūmāvatī, is the syllable 'gaja' (elephant).
बीजेन षड्दीर्घजातियुक्तेन परिकल्पयेत्
It should be constructed with the seed-syllable, joined with six long vowels.
विवर्णां चञ्चलां दुष्टां दीर्घां च मलिनांबराम्
Of discolored complexion, restless, wicked, tall, and clad in soiled garments,
कङ्कध्वजरथारूढां प्रलंबितपयोधरम्
Mounted on a chariot bearing the banner of a vulture, with pendulous breasts,
प्रवृद्धलोमां तु भृशं कुटिलाकुटिलेक्षणाम्
With hair grown excessively, and eyes both crooked and not crooked,
एवंविधां तु संचिन्त्य नमः स्वाहा फडन्तकम्
Having conceived of such a form, one should recite: 'Salutation, Svāhā, Phaṭ, Antaka.'
अवष्टभ्य शवं शत्रुनाम्नाथ प्रजपेन्मनुम्
Seizing a corpse, and uttering the enemy’s name, one should then recite the mantra.
उपवासी श्मशाने वा विपिने शून्यमन्दिरे
Fasting, in a cremation ground, or in a forest, or in an empty temple,
सहस्रादूर्द्धूतः शत्रुर्ज्वरेण परिगृह्यते
Within a thousand recitations, the enemy is afflicted by fever.
मन्त्राद्या क्षरमालिख्य शत्रूनाम ततः परम्
Having written the mantra and the enemy’s name with the first letter,
सर्वं मनुदिक्सहस्रजपाच्छवमृतिर्भवेत्
By reciting the mantra a thousand times in all directions, death comes to the corpse.
विरोधिनाम्नाष्टशतं जप्तमुच्चाटनं रिपोः
Reciting the enemy’s name eight hundred times brings about the expulsion of the foe.
विरोधिनामसंरुद्धं कृष्णे पक्षे समुच्चरेत्
Having bound the enemy’s name, one should recite during the dark fortnight.
एवं संक्षेपतः प्रोक्तं अवतारचतुष्टयम्
Thus, in brief, the fourfold descent has been described.
दुर्गाया जगदंबायाः किं पुनः प्रष्टुमिच्छसि
What more do you wish to ask about Durgā, the Mother of the World?
सर्वासामवताराणां नारदो देवदर्शनः
Among all the descents, Nārada, the seer of the gods,
अवतारकलानां हि पप्रच्छ विनयान्वितः
Indeed, humbly inquired about the manifestations of the descents.
पज्जगन्मातृमन्त्राणां वैभवं श्रुतवान्मुने
O sage, having heard of the glory of the mantras of the mothers of the worlds,
तथा राधावताराणां श्रोतुमिच्छामि वैभवम्
Likewise, I wish to hear the glory of the descents of Rādhā.
राधावतारास्तान्सत्यं कीर्तयाशेषसिद्धिदान्
Proclaim truly those descents of Rādhā, bestowers of all accomplishments.
सनत्कुमारः प्रोवाच ध्यात्वा राधापदांबुजम्
Sanatkumara spoke, having meditated upon the lotus feet of Radha.
राधावतारचरितं भजतामिष्टिसिद्धिदम्
I worship the story of Radha's descent, which grants fulfillment of cherished desires.
