भूगृहस्य चतुर्दिक्षु पूर्वादिषु यजेत्क्रमात्
In the four directions of the house, beginning with the east, one should perform worship in sequence.
इन्द्रादींश्च ततो बाह्ये निजायुधसमन्वितान्
Then, outside of that, one should worship Indra and the other deities, each accompanied by their own weapons.
पीतवस्त्रपदासीनः पीतमाल्यानुलेपनः
Seated on a yellow cloth, adorned with yellow garlands and ointments,
पीतां ध्यायन्भगवतीं पयोमध्ये ऽयुतं जपेत्
Meditating on the yellow goddess, one should recite the mantra a hundred thousand times in the midst of milk.
मधुरत्रितयाक्तैः स्यादाकर्षो लवर्णैर्ध्रुवम्
By the utterance of the threefold sweetness, attraction is surely achieved with the syllables of 'la'.
ताललोणहरिद्राभिर्द्विषां संस्तंभनं भवेत्
With tal, salt, and turmeric, the restraint of enemies is accomplished.
श्मशाने पावके हुत्वा नाशयेदचिरादरीन्
By offering oblations in the cremation ground's fire, enemies are destroyed without delay.
गृहधूमं चितावह्नौ हुत्वा प्रोच्चाटयेद्रिपून्
By offering the smoke of the house into the funeral pyre's fire, enemies are expelled.
जुहोति सो ऽखिलान् रोगान् शमयेद्दर्शनादपि
He who offers oblations dispels all diseases, even by mere sight.
ब्रह्मचर्यरतो लक्षं जपेदखिलसिद्धये
Devoted to celibacy, one should recite the mantra a hundred thousand times for the attainment of all accomplishments.
त्रिशतं मन्त्रितं पीतं हन्याद्विषपराभवम्
Three hundred times, if the mantra is recited over yellow, it destroys the defeat by poison.
अलक्तरञ्जिते लक्षं मन्त्रयेन्मनुनामुना
On a surface dyed with lac, one should recite the mantra a hundred thousand times, using the prescribed formula.
पारदं च शिलां तालं पिष्टं मधुसमन्वितम्
Mercury, stone, and tal, ground together with honey,
अदृश्यः स्यान्नृणामेष आश्चर्य्यं दृश्यतामिदम्
This becomes invisible to people; let this wonder be seen.
हरितालनिशाचूर्णैरुन्मत्तुरससंयुतैः
With powders of orpiment and nightshade, mixed with the juice of datura,
तद्यन्त्रं स्थापितप्राणं पीतसूत्रेण वेष्टयेत्
One should wrap the device, whose life has been established, with a yellow thread.
रचयेदृषभं रम्यं यन्त्रं तन्मध्यतः क्षिपेत्
One should construct a beautiful bull-shaped device and place it in the center of that.
स्तंभयेद्विद्विषां वाचं गतिं कार्यपरंपराम्
He restrains the speech, movement, and succession of actions of enemies.
अङ्गारेण चितास्थेन तत्र यन्त्रं समालिखेत्
With a coal taken from the funeral pyre, one should inscribe the diagram there.
प्रेतवस्त्रे लिखेद्यन्त्रं अङ्गारेणैव तत्पुनः
On a shroud of the dead, one should again draw the diagram with the same coal.
पूजितं पीतपुष्पैस्तद्वाचं संस्तंभयेद्द्विषाम्
When it has been worshipped with yellow flowers, by reciting its formula, one restrains the enemies.
मार्जितं तद्द्विषां पात्रैर्दिव्यस्तम्भनकृद्भवेत्
If it is cleansed with vessels belonging to the enemies, it becomes a means of extraordinary restraint.
क्षिप्तं जले दिव्यकृतं जलस्तंभनकारकम्
If it is cast into water, it becomes a divine means for restraining water.
शत्रूणां गतिबुद्ध्यादेः स्तंभनो नात्र संशयः
There is no doubt that it restrains the movement, intellect, and so on, of enemies.
दुर्गायाश्चाभिधास्यामि सर्वलोकोपकारकान्
Now I shall describe those of Durgā that are beneficial to all the worlds.
वज्राद्यं क्षुधिता सूक्ष्मा मृता स्वाग्नीन्दुसंयुता
She is as hard as a diamond, hungry, subtle, dead, united with her own fire and moon.
भैरवो ऽस्य मुनिः सम्राट् छन्दो मन्त्रस्य देवता
Bhairava is the seer of this mantra, the emperor; the meter and the deity of the mantra are the same.
आं खड्गाय हृदाख्यातमीं खड्गाय शिरः स्मृतम्
‘Āṃ khaḍgāya’ is known as the heart; ‘īṃ khaḍgāya’ is remembered as the head.
औमङ्कुशाय नेत्रं स्याद्विसर्गो वसुरक्षयुक्
‘Aum aṅkuśāya’ is for the eyes; the visarga is joined with the protection of wealth.
स्वाहान्ताश्चैवमङ्गानि कृत्वा ध्यायेद्थांबिकाम्
Having thus made the limbs ending with ‘svāhā’, one should meditate on Ambikā.
