May She, who is composed of six parts and is the very essence of the sixty tattvas, guard my northern direction. Let the One established in Vedanta, who is the very sky itself, protect the crown of my head above. In the fiery direction, may She who bears bow, arrows, hide, and sword, stand watchful over me. In the southwest, may the Goddess holding water-pot, rosary, ladle, and sacrificial spoon, offer her protection. In the northwest, garlanded with skulls and bones, may She shield me. In the Shaiva direction, with conch, discus, and the gesture of fearlessness, may She stand as my guardian. Below, may She whose arms bestow boons and fearlessness, who wields sword and shield, keep me safe. Let all these divine forms, established in their respective directions, united with the powers of planets and the limbs, protect me completely. Through their all-pervading presence, may they safeguard me from the soles of my feet to the crown of my head. Especially at the two twilights each day, and at the time of recitation, with devotion, one should remember Her. She is the giver of prosperity, the very speech of the worlds, the great Earth, the ground beneath us. She is renowned, virtuous, truthful, the essence of the Vedas, and auspicious. She is joy itself, the supreme Goddess, intelligence, peace, and the Earth endowed with wisdom. She is compassion, night, lotus, Rohiṇī, delightful, and victorious. She is illusion, wisdom, supreme, the milker, proud, nourishing, and action. She is Brāhmī, golden, serpent-like, enchanting, beautiful, and speech itself. She is illusion, Svadhā, Ramā, slender, destroyer of enemies, protector, and virtuous. She is immortal, the giver of holy places and initiation, unconquerable, and the remover of disease. She is a yoginī, stainless, truthful, sometimes weak, yet the giver of strength and always victorious. She is swift, the giver of rain, to be known, of the order of truth, and whose essence is truth. She is two-footed, four-footed, three-footed, and six-footed. Whoever recites these one hundred and eight names of Sāvitrī, O Brahmin, receives the fivefold characteristic that is now revealed to you. Before the worship of the mantra, this fulfills all desires in the universe. In the lotus of the world, for the purpose of creation, two beings were born through austerity. As soon as they were born, in the waters, at the time marked by the dissolution of the worlds, beholding the stirring of activity, he praised the Mother of the Universe. Sleep, established in the eyes of Nārāyaṇa, became pleased. She became reddish, wrathful, peaceful, and adorned with a moon-crested crown. She is also Gāyatrī as the metre, and the goddess as Bhuvaneśvarī. Through the processes of dissolution and creation, the Mothers take on various forms. One should place Hrillekhā upon the head, in the mouth, and the sky in the lotus of the heart. Likewise, one should establish Her in the upward, eastern, southern, northern, western, and upper directions. Then, the six limbs should be arranged, each with their respective class, in their proper order. With Sāvitrī, Viṣṇu is to be placed on the right cheek. With Śrī, the Lord of Wealth is to be placed at the tip of the left ear, above the left ear, and in the space between the ear and the cheek. At the root of the throat, on both breasts, on the left shoulder, and in the lotus of the heart—on the forehead, at the sides, on the belly, on the other side, and in the heart—one should, with the root, pervading the whole body, meditate upon the Goddess. Thus, in every direction and in every part, She is invoked, praised, and remembered, the all-pervading Mother, the source and sustainer of all.
