Listen, O King, to the wondrous tapestry of destinies woven by the movements of the planets and the signs. There are those who sustain their lives through metals, skilled in the knowledge of kings, yet live in fear, weaving their fortunes and amassing wealth in the land of Svabha. Some are rich in the lore of astrology and the sacred rites of sacrifice, counted among the wise who know the ways of rulers, especially in the region of Karhara. In Jūka, kings, goldsmiths, and merchants flourish, while the others are found in Yute. Among relatives, the earth-born, and even the shadows, dwell both the righteous who walk with the noble and those who practice deceit. In Kumbha, alongside others, are those who delight in jest and wit, who know the ways of kings, and who keep company with the virtuous in Antyabha. In the third division, one is seen united with spouse, friends, and the stars themselves. Such a person becomes a protector, inclined toward force if needed, skilled in battle, and blessed with wealth. In the realm of the wise, he becomes a poet, joyous, and knowledgeable of actors, thieves, and artisans. Sometimes, he is quick to anger, lord of wealth, a minister, a fierce king, or even a son of Hari. Yet, if fate places him in the portion of a bad woman or an enemy, he is left with few children, is unhappy, and turns wicked. When he finds himself among exalted groups, in the sky, or in another’s portion, the results are auspicious in due order. The fruit of each segment is revealed clearly, restrained by the sign and degree. If placed in Aries, he is wealthy but troubled by darkness; in Leo, he is blind at night. In the second house, when with the Sun, he is exceedingly rich yet suffers punishment from the king and affliction of the mouth. According to his wealth and offspring, if situated in the house of intellect, he becomes strong and victorious over his enemies. In the house of children and happiness, in Libra, or in the tenth, he is learned, brave, and noble. However, he may become mute, insane, deaf, or a servant; in Gemini, he is lame, and in Sagittarius, wealthy. When in a benefic sign, his character is good; when in the house of intellect, he is wise and shines with the blessings of daughters and sons. At death, he may suffer from disease and boils, but with the Sun in the house of wealth, he is surrounded by friends and riches. If placed in the house of loss, he is lacking in limbs and of low status; the wise declare this as the result of the Moon in such a position. His conduct may be both righteous and sinful, but elsewhere, he is considered equal to the Sun. He knows righteousness, is adorned with many virtues, profound, and ever desirous of knowledge, shining like the Sun. Yet, he may also be lowly, ascetic, greedy, wicked, and a teacher of the body. He is happy when the breast is seen, and among the Bhṛgus, he lives as if in another form. When in the ascendant, he is lazy; in a slow-moving sign, he is weak; and in a declining sign, he loses righteousness. When full and at the zenith, he bestows results; at the base or in the triangle, the fruit is less. With an enemy, the result is minimal; in a low or setting position, there is fruitlessness. Yet, when honored by relatives, he is wealthy, happy, and enjoys pleasures, each in turn. When the planet is with friendly signs, beginning with Aries, the king becomes renowned, enterprising, exceedingly brilliant, intelligent, wealthy, and strong. Such a man is endowed with beauty, gentleness, good fortune, enjoyment, and intelligence. But in inauspicious signs, the Sun and benefics do not grant the promised results. If another planet occupies that place, it produces a person with similar qualities and form. In a cruel sign, he becomes extremely violent; if on the guru’s couch, he is a sinner. He causes obstacles, lives as a servant, is sinful, violent, and lacking in intelligence. Yet, he may also be blessed with a wife, strength, ornaments, good character, and great daring. He might suffer disease or be with his own wife, or, if inauspicious, become an adulterer. He may be happy, intelligent, wealthy, famed, brilliant, and honored by the people. He is skilled in intelligence, arts, poetry, sculpture, debate, and cunning. His life is touched by many dangers, happiness, health, disease, beauty, and wealth. Thus, O King, the stars and their stations reveal a myriad of destinies—woven with virtue and vice, fortune and hardship, wisdom and folly—each soul receiving its share according to the great order of the cosmos.
