When a benefic planet, strong and radiant, occupies the ascendant and auspiciousness abounds, the heavens bestow favorable conditions upon the native. Those who traverse the paths of Aries and the other zodiac signs are regarded as the children of the Moon, Sun, and the other celestial luminaries, each sign reflecting the influence of its planetary rulers. In Taurus, the Moon shines with particular strength, while in Libra, the Sun reaches its exalted state; in the remaining signs, the planets take their proper and ordained positions. Should Saturn, in retrograde motion, reside in the ascendant, then the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Sun, and Mercury follow in succession, each imparting their unique effects. When the period of the tenth house, the ascendant, or the house of action comes to prominence, sovereignty and rulership are attained. If all planets gather in the two angular houses nearest to the ascendant, this is known as the 'grouped' configuration. When the planets are distributed in the third, sixth, and eleventh houses from the ascendant, it forms the 'plough' shape. If the planets are mixed, with some outside the houses of wind and thorns, the formation is called the 'lotus'. From the ninth house, when planets occupy the third, sixth, and eleventh positions, it is termed 'power'; when they are in the fourth, seventh, and tenth, it is called 'quadrant'. The 'half-moon' formation arises when the umbrella is above, beginning from one's own sign and extending to another. When the planets reside in the sixth, eighth, and twelfth houses, the 'lute' formation emerges, involving all seven planets. Should the planets be placed in movable signs, a royal yoga is said to arise, conferring nobility and leadership. When benefic planets occupy the angular houses from the ascendant, it is called 'spear'; if malefic planets are present, the formation is known as 'serpent'. When planets are situated in fixed signs, various formations such as 'broken', 'lame', 'chain', 'garland', and 'staff' are described, each with its own significance. The donor, when placed in the house of wealth, enjoys prosperity; one associated with the noose possesses both wealth and good conduct. In the conjunction called 'yoke', a heretic is indicated; in the sphere, poverty and impurity are signified. When the auspicious body is above, the one with the upper garland is blessed with happiness, heroism, and a presence likened to a yak-tail fan. A radiant, renowned, and happy individual is assuredly a human of firm resolve. When power is diminished, one becomes lowly, lazy, and destitute; during periods of punishment, separation from loved ones is experienced. The Kemudruma yoga is recognized as particularly difficult to bear in one's fate, bringing hardship. Otherwise, the native is healthy, of good character, renowned, well-dressed, and free from affliction. In the Kemudruma, however, he is extremely impure, unhappy, lowly, and poor. Yet, he may be of good reputation, skilled, learned, and wealthy. He is intelligent, adept in minerals, and knowledgeable about contracts, O sage. He becomes skilled in meaningful matters, humble, and endowed with good reputation. He is a knower of poetry, acquainted with ghee and honey. With Shukra, he is fit for gambling; with Samanda, he becomes both a dancer and gambler. When Bhargava and Samanda are joined, the man becomes a hunter, cruel in disposition, O Narada. With Kavi, he is slow, gentle-eyed, and wealthy in forest resources. If Mars, Jupiter, Venus, and the Sun are together, the man becomes a wanderer. Defeat by their masters leads to the fall from renunciation. Whatever is witnessed at birth, if joined with Manda, he perceives, O Narada. When the Moon is aspected by Saturn in the portion of Mars or the Sun, or at initiation, and when the three benefics are in the ascendant, many qualities and happiness arise. Such a person possesses many possessions, is steadfast in mind, and speaks sweetly. He is self-controlled, yet diseased; auspicious under the Sun, born in Pushya, a poet, and happy. In Bhaga, he is sensual, wealthy, devoted, generous, and pleasant in speech. With varied garments, good vision, skilled in crafts, yet not devoted to righteousness or compassion. In Śākra, one devoted to righteousness is content; at the root, proud, wealthy, and happy. In Karṇa, he is wealthy, happy, renowned, generous, heroic, and rich in cattle. At the base, he is eloquent, happy, and charming; in Pauṣṇa, heroic, wealthy, and pure. Thus, the planets and their configurations, as described, shape the destinies and qualities of men, bestowing upon them their fortunes, virtues, and challenges, as ordained by the cosmic order.
