O wise one, listen as the celestial configurations and their profound meanings are revealed. When Mars is found in its own place, in conjunction with Jupiter, or when both are joined with a third planet, or situated in specific directions, holes, or with a sword, it signifies certain outcomes. Similarly, when a planet occupies Jupiter’s position, the Moon, the third, sixth, or eighth house, or is at the end among these, each arrangement brings its own effect. The Sun, when placed in the center, eighth, or house of wealth from the ascendant, or when it is increasing, at the beginning, or accompanied by relatives, influences the results accordingly. When Venus reaches the end of the sixth or eighth house, it becomes the teacher among two enemies at the end, guiding the outcome. The circumstances of birth, adversity, friendship, exaltation, one’s own division, desired position, and the absence of these in others—all these factors must be considered. The results, in their proper order, are the acquisition of wealth, attainment of happiness, and fulfillment of desires. From the lord, owner, and king, from one’s own position, division, the Sun, and one’s own fame and loss, the fruits are discerned. When Mars is prominent, agriculture, lotus, prosperity, metals, juices, and boldness arise in its own portion. When Venus dominates, silver, cows, and gems are indicated; for Saturn, violence, toil, and inferiority are seen. If the ascendant is vargottama or in the lotus, and four or more planets observe it, auspicious results follow. When the ruler is exalted—in Taurus, Leo, Gemini, or with the Sun, or in the ascendant with Jupiter—great fortune is promised. If the Moon, Mars, or Jupiter are in Cancer, or the ascendant is in the king’s sign, authority and prominence are bestowed. When Saturn is in Capricorn, Aries, or the king’s sign, with Mars and others, the king’s power is strengthened. If the ascendant, Cancer, or Gemini is occupied by Jupiter, Mercury, or Venus, and benefics are present, prosperity is assured. When Leo, Aquarius, or Capricorn are occupied, the king is established in the sign of the boat, signifying stability. If Jupiter is in Sagittarius or Mercury in Taurus, and the Moon shines in the night, greatness is indicated. When Mercury is in Virgo, Libra, or Aries, the king gains renown. The king’s son is discerned by the rules to be spoken, O best of sages. If Leo, the Sun, Aries ascendant, Capricorn, Mars, Aquarius, or the eighth house are occupied, the son’s qualities are revealed. If the lord of the seventh, ninth, or twelfth is in the lotus and aspected by benefics, auspiciousness is assured. When a benefic, endowed with strength, is in the ascendant, and abundance and auspiciousness prevail, blessings follow. Those who follow the paths of Aries and other signs are the children of the Moon, Sun, and other luminaries. In Taurus, the Moon is strong; in Libra, the Sun is exalted; in the remaining signs, the planets are situated in their appropriate places. If Saturn is retrograde in the ascendant, then the Moon, Jupiter, Saturn, Sun, and Mercury are placed successively, shaping the destiny. When the period of the tenth house, the ascendant, or the house of action arises, sovereignty is attained. When all the planets occupy the two nearest angular houses, it is called the ‘grouped’ configuration. When the planets are in the third, sixth, and eleventh houses from the ascendant, it is known as the ‘plough’ formation. When the planets are mixed, and some are outside the houses of wind and thorns, it is called the ‘lotus’ formation. When the planets are in the third, sixth, and eleventh houses from the ninth, it is called ‘power’; when in the fourth, seventh, and tenth, it is called ‘quadrant’. When the umbrella is above, beginning from one’s own sign, and from another, it is called the ‘half-moon’ formation. When the planets are in the sixth, eighth, and twelfth houses, formations such as ‘lute’ arise, with all seven planets involved. When the planets are in movable signs, it is said to be a royal yoga. When benefic planets are in the angular houses from the ascendant, it is called ‘spear’; when malefics are there, it is called ‘serpent’. When the planets are in fixed signs, formations called ‘broken’, ‘lame’, ‘chain’, ‘garland’, and ‘staff’ are described. The donor is prosperous when situated in the house of wealth; one associated with the noose is endowed with wealth and good conduct. In the conjunction called ‘yoke’, the heretic is found; in the sphere, the poor and impure are likewise indicated. When the auspicious body is above, the one with the upper garland is happy, heroic, and like a yak-tail fan. One who is radiant, renowned, and enjoys happiness is certainly a human of firm resolve. But when power is weak, one becomes lowly, lazy, and destitute; in punishment, separation from loved ones is experienced. Kemudruma is known as difficult to bear in fate, and otherwise, it brings hardship. Thus, O sage, the celestial arrangements and their results are revealed, each configuration bearing its own influence and shaping the destiny of kings, their sons, and all beings under the sun.
