O King, listen with reverence to the wondrous fruits bestowed upon those who worship the Supreme Lord with devotion. When one performs sacred acts, so many sins—even the gravest offenses, such as the killing of a brāhmaṇa—are utterly destroyed. Freed from these burdens, the devotee comes to dwell with the Lord who resides in the Milk Ocean, remaining there as long as the moon and stars shine in the heavens. Such a blessed soul is escorted to the abode of Brahmā, accompanied by three generations of his lineage. He then resides in the mansion of Viṣṇu, remaining there until the dissolution of all beings. In Viṣṇu’s temple, he rejoices with twenty-one generations of his family, and once he enters Viṣṇu’s world, there is no return—he is liberated forever, O Lord of men. In the Vaiṣṇava realm, he delights alongside tens of thousands of his lineage, and in Viṣṇu’s city, he dwells with hundreds of thousands of his family members. Endowed with millions of his lineage, he attains union with Hari, and with countless hundreds of thousands, he attains union with Viṣṇu himself. Now, hear the fruit of bathing Viṣṇu with coconut water: the devotee rejoices with Viṣṇu, accompanied by two hundred families. He reaches Viṣṇu’s abode with Keśava and a hundred thousand ancestors. Having bathed Hari with devotion, he attains the Vaiṣṇava realm, freed from all sins, and rejoices together with Viṣṇu. He dwells in Viṣṇu’s abode along with three hundred virtuous men. Consider also the auspicious times: on the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight, the eighth day, and the day of the full moon; during lunar and solar eclipses; at the beginning of Manus and Yugas; on the new moon with Saturn; on Tuesday in the Ashvini constellation; on Wednesday in the Anuradha constellation; during the solar month of Shravan; on the eighth day ruled by Mercury; in the Ashadha month of Mercury; and in holy places—these are all moments of great merit. Whether the offering is made with ghee, honey, or curd, the fruit is the same: the devotee dwells in the city of Viṣṇu with three hundred virtuous men, O king. Ultimately, he attains liberation, and rebirth becomes exceedingly rare for him. Turning to Shiva, by offering milk to the Lord, one attains union with Shiva and is purified. On the eighth day or on Monday, this union with Shiva is assured. By offering ghee and honey to Shiva, one attains similarity with the Lord, sharing in his attributes. The devotee also gains likeness with his ancestors and with the virtuous, dwelling in Shiva’s world for a kalpa together with the righteous. If the offering is made with milk, O fortunate one, hear the result: the devotee uplifts his lineage by the count of millions, leading them to the state of Shiva. Freed from sins accumulated over ten thousand births, he attains that exalted state. He may also go to the abode of Viṣṇu, accompanied by countless generations of his lineage. Having worshipped, freed from sin, he dwells in Viṣṇu's city for an age. Having duly worshipped, O great king, he attains the respective divine realms. By offering incense with devotion, a man is released from all sins. By giving, O best of kings, a man attains all desired things. Freed from all sins, he obtains the fruit of bathing in the Ganges. Hear now the fruit of offering a lamp to great Viṣṇu, which is also the fruit of offering to Shiva: he attains the respective divine realms, along with three generations of ancestors. Thus, O king, such are the glorious rewards of worship, offerings, and devotion to the Supreme Lords.
