गण्डशैलैश्च शैलैश्च परिघैश्चोत्तमायसैः चक्रैश्च दैत्यप्रवराश् चक्रुर् आनन्दितं बलम्
With mountain peaks, stones, and excellent iron clubs, and with discs, the foremost Daityas made their army rejoice.
एतद्दानवसैन्यं तत् सर्वं युद्धमदोत्कटम् देवानभिमुखे तस्थौ मेघानीकमिवोद्धतम्
That entire Daitya army, intoxicated with the passion for battle, stood facing the gods like a wild mass of storm clouds.
तदद्भुतं दैत्यसहस्रगाढं वाय्वग्निशैलाम्बुदतोयकल्पम् बलं रणौघाभ्युदये ऽभ्युदीर्णं युयुत्सयोन्मत्तम् इवाबभासे
That wondrous force of thousands of Daityas, dense as wind, fire, mountains, clouds, and water, surged forth in the flood of battle, appearing mad with the desire to fight.
श्रुतस्ते दैत्यसैन्यस्य विस्तारो रविनन्दन सुराणामपि सैन्यस्य विस्तारं वैष्णवं शृणु
You have heard the expanse of the Daitya army, O son of the Sun; now hear the expanse of the Vaiṣṇava army of the gods.
आदित्या वसवो रुद्रा अश्विनौ च महाबलौ सबलाः सानुगाश्चैव संनह्यन्त यथाक्रमम्
The Ādityas, Vasus, Rudras, and the mighty Aśvins, along with their forces and attendants, prepared themselves in order.
पुरुहूतस्तु पुरतो लोकपालः सहस्रदृक् ग्रामणीः सर्वदेवानाम् आरुरोह सुरद्विपम्
Puruhūta, the lord of the worlds, leader of all the gods, with a thousand eyes, mounted the divine elephant at the front.
मध्ये चास्य रथः सर्वपक्षिप्रवरहंसः सुचारुचक्रचरणो हेमवज्रपरिष्कृतः
In the center was his chariot, drawn by the best swans among birds, with beautiful wheels and feet, adorned with golden thunderbolts.
देवगन्धर्वयक्षौघैर् अनुयातः सहस्रशः दीप्तिमद्भिः सदस्यैश्च ब्रह्मर्षिभिरभिष्टुतः
He was followed by thousands of hosts of gods, Gandharvas, and Yakṣas, accompanied by radiant councilors and praised by Brahmarṣis.
वज्रविस्फूर्जितोद्भूतैर् विद्युदिन्द्रायुधोदितैः युक्तो बलाहकगणैः पर्वतैरिव कामगैः
Accompanied by clouds that arise with the thunder of lightning and the roar of Indra's weapon, he appears as if mountains, moving at will, are gathered together.
यमारूढः स भगवान् पर्येति सकलं जगत् हविर्धानेषु गायन्ति विप्रा मखमुखे स्थिताः
Mounted upon Yama, that blessed Lord traverses the entire world; at the sacrificial offerings, Brahmins sing his praises, standing at the forefront of the ritual.
स्वर्गे शक्रानुयातेषु देवतूर्यनिनादिषु सुन्दर्यः परिनृत्यन्ति शतशो ऽप्सरसां गणाः
In heaven, as Indra proceeds with his followers and the divine drums resound, hundreds of groups of beautiful apsaras dance.
केतुना नागराजेन राजमानो यथा रविः युक्तो हयसहस्रेण मनोमारुतरंहसा
Adorned with the serpent-banner like the sun, joined to a thousand horses, he moves with the speed of mind and wind.
स स्यन्दनवरो भाति गुप्तो मातलिना तदा कृत्स्नः परिवृतो मेरुर् भास्करस्येव तेजसा
That excellent chariot shines, concealed by Matali; surrounded entirely, like Mount Meru enveloped by the brilliance of the sun.
यमस्तु दण्डमुद्यम्य कालयुक्तश्च मुद्गरम् तस्थौ सुरगणानीके दैत्यान्नादेन भीषयन्
Yama, raising his staff and wielding a mace bound with time, stood in the host of gods, terrifying the demons with his roar.
चतुर्भिः सागरैर्युक्तो लेलिहानैश्च पन्नगैः शङ्खमुक्ताङ्गदधरो बिभ्रत्तोयमयं वपुः
Joined with four oceans and licking serpents, adorned with conch and pearl bracelets, he bears a watery form.
कालपाशान्समाविध्यन् हयैः शशिकरोपमैः वाय्वीरितैर् जलाकारैः कुर्वंल्लीलाः सहस्रशः
Brandishing the nooses of time, with horses resembling the moon, swift as wind and shaped like water, he performs countless playful acts.
पाण्डुरोद्धूतवसनः प्रवालरुचिराङ्गदः मणिश्यामोत्तमवपुर् हरिभारार्पितो वरः
Clad in white, shining garments, with coral-bright bracelets, his body dark as a precious gem, the noble one bears the weight of the gods.
वरुणः पाशधृङ् मध्ये देवानीकस्य तस्थिवान् युद्धवेलामभिलषन् भिन्नवेल इवार्णवः
Varuna, holding a noose, stood in the midst of the host of gods, desiring the boundary of battle, like the ocean with its shore broken.
यक्षराक्षससैन्येन गुह्यकानां गणैरपि युक्तश्च शङ्खपद्माभ्यां निधीनामधिपः प्रभुः
Accompanied by the armies of Yakshas and Rakshasas, and the hosts of Guhyakas, the lord of treasures, powerful, is adorned with conch and lotus.
राजराजेश्वरः श्रीमान् गदापाणिरदृश्यत विमानयोधी धनदो विमाने पुष्पके स्थितः
The illustrious king of kings appeared, holding a mace in his hand; the lord of wealth, a chariot-warrior, stood in the celestial chariot Pushpaka.
स राजराजः शुशुभे युद्धार्थी नरवाहनः उक्षाणमास्थितः संख्ये साक्षादिव शिवः स्वयम्
That king of kings shone, eager for battle, riding Naravahana; mounted upon the bull in the conflict, he appeared as if Shiva himself.
पूर्वपक्षः सहस्राक्षः पितृराजस्तु दक्षिणः वरुणः पश्चिमं पक्षम् उत्तरं नरवाहनः
The eastern flank was Indra, the thousand-eyed; the southern, the king of ancestors; Varuna held the western side, and Naravahana the northern.
चतुर्षु युक्ताश्चत्वारो लोकपाला महाबलाः स्वासु दिक्षु स्वरक्षन्त तस्य देवबलस्य ते

सूर्यः सप्ताश्वयुक्तेन रथेनामितगामिना श्रिया जाज्वल्यमानेन दीप्यमानैश्च रश्मिभिः
The sun, with his chariot drawn by seven horses, moving without limit, blazed with splendor and shone with radiant rays.
उदयास्तगचक्रेण मेरुपर्वतगामिना त्रिदिवद्वारचक्रेण तपता लोकमव्ययम्
With his wheel rising and setting, traversing Mount Meru, and the gate of heaven, he scorches the imperishable world.
सहस्ररश्मियुक्तेन भ्राजमानेन तेजसा चचार मध्ये लोकानां द्वादशात्मा दिनेश्वरः
Endowed with a thousand rays and brilliant energy, the sun, lord of the day, moves among the worlds in his twelvefold form.
सोमः श्वेतहये भाति स्यन्दने शीतरश्मिवान् हिमवत्तोयपूर्णाभिर् भाभिराह्लादयञ्जगत्
Soma, radiant upon a white horse, shines in a chariot, bearing cool rays; with brilliance filled from the waters of the Himalayas, he delights the world.
तमृक्षपूगानुगतं शिशिरांशुं द्विजेश्वरम् शशच्छायाङ्किततनुं नैशस्य तमसः क्षयम्
That lord of the twice-born, with gentle beams, follows the hosts of stars; his body marked by the shadow of the hare, brings an end to the darkness of night.
ज्योतिषामीश्वरं व्योम्नि रसानां रसदं प्रभुम् ओषधीनां सहस्राणां निधानममृतस्य च
He is the lord of the luminaries in the sky, the giver of sap, the master of countless plants, the repository of nectar.
जगतः प्रथमं भागं सौम्यं सत्यमयं रथम् ददृशुर्दानवाः सोमं हिमप्रहरणं स्थितम्
The Daityas beheld Soma, armed with frost, established in the first, gentle, and truth-filled portion of the world, riding his chariot.
