घटोदरो महापार्श्वः क्रथनः पिठरस्तथा विश्वरूपः सुरूपश्च स्वबलश्च महाबलः
Ghaṭodara, Mahāpārśva, Krathana, Piṭhara, Viśvarūpa, Surūpa, Svabala, and Mahābala.
दशग्रीवश्च वाली च मेघवासा महासुरः घटास्यो ऽकम्पनश्चैव प्रजनश्चेन्द्रतापनः
Daśagrīva, Vālī, Meghavāsā the great asura, Ghaṭāsya, Akampana, Prajana, and Indratāpana.
दैत्यदानवसंघास्ते सर्वे ज्वलितकुण्डलाः स्रग्विणो वाग्मिनः सर्वे सदैव चरितव्रताः
All those hosts of Daityas and Dānavas, adorned with blazing earrings and garlands, eloquent, ever steadfast in their vows.
सर्वे लब्धवराः शूराः सर्वे विगतमृत्यवः एते चान्ये च बहवो हिरण्यकशिपुं प्रभुम्
All are heroic, granted boons, freed from death; these and many others attend upon Hiraṇyakaśipu, the lord.
उपासन्ति महात्मानं सर्वे दिव्यपरिच्छदाः विमानैर्विविधाकारैर् भ्राजमानैरिवाग्निभिः
All, possessing divine ornaments, worship the great-souled one, arriving in radiant aerial chariots of various forms, shining like fire.
महेन्द्रवपुषः सर्वे विचित्राङ्गदबाहवः भूषिताङ्गा दितेः पुत्रास् तमुपासन्त सर्वशः
All, with bodies like Mahendra, adorned with wondrous armlets, the sons of Diti, decorated, worship him in every way.
तस्यां सभायां दिव्यायाम् असुराः पर्वतोपमाः हिरण्यवपुषः सर्वे दिवाकरसमप्रभाः
In that divine assembly, the asuras, massive as mountains, all with golden bodies, shine with brilliance like the sun.
न श्रुतं नैव दृष्टं हि हिरण्यकशिपोर्यथा ऐश्वर्यं दैत्यसिंहस्य यथा तस्य महात्मनः
Never heard nor seen was the majesty of Hiraṇyakaśipu, lion of the Daityas, such was the greatness of that high-souled one.
कनकरजतचित्रवेदिकायां परिहृतरत्नविचित्रवीथिकायाम् स ददर्श मृगाधिपः सभायां सुरचितरत्नगवाक्षशोभितायाम्
Upon a platform adorned with gold and silver, with gem-studded avenues, the lord of beasts beheld the assembly, radiant with windows inlaid with celestial gems.
कनकविमलहारभूषिताङ्गं दितितनयं स मृगाधिपो ददर्श दिवसकरमहाप्रभाज्वलन्तं दितिजसहस्रशतैर्निषेव्यमाणम्
He saw the son of Diti, his body adorned with pure golden garlands, shining with the brilliance of the sun, attended by thousands and hundreds of Daityas.
ततो दृष्ट्वा महात्मानं कालचक्रमिवागतम् नरसिंहवपुश्छन्नं भस्मच्छन्नमिवानलम्
Then, seeing the great-souled one, arrived like the wheel of time, with the form of a lion concealed, like fire hidden by ashes.
हिरण्यकशिपोः पुत्रः प्रह्लादो नाम वीर्यवान् दिव्येन चक्षुषा सिंहम् अपश्यद्देवमागतम्
Prahlāda, son of Hiraṇyakaśipu, powerful, with divine sight, saw the lion-form god who had arrived.
ते दृष्ट्वा रुक्मशैलाभम् अपूर्वां तनुमाश्रितम् विस्मिता दानवाः सर्वे हिरण्यकशिपुश्च सः
Seeing that unprecedented form, resembling a golden mountain, all the Dānavas were astonished, along with Hiraṇyakaśipu.
महाबाहो महाराज दैत्यानामादिसंभव न श्रुतं न च नो दृष्टं नारसिंहमिदं वपुः
O mighty-armed king, origin of the Daityas, neither heard nor seen by us is this lion-form.
अव्यक्तप्रभवं दिव्यं किमिदं रूपमागतम् दैत्यान्तकरणं घोरं संशतीव मनो मम
What is this divine form, emerging from the unmanifest, dreadful and capable of destroying demons? It seems to shatter my mind.
अस्य देवाः शरीरस्थाः सागराः सरितश्च याः हिमवान्पारियात्रश्च ये चान्ये कुलपर्वताः
Within this form reside the gods, the oceans, and all the rivers, as well as the Himalaya, the Pariyatra, and all the other ancestral mountains.
चन्द्रमाश्च सनक्षत्रैर् आदित्यैर् वसुभिः सह धनदो वरुणश्चैव यमः शक्रः शचीपतिः
The moon with its stars, the sun with the Vasus, Kubera, Varuna, Yama, Indra, and the lord of Shachi are all present here.
मरुतो देवगन्धर्वा ऋषयश्च तपोधनाः नागा यक्षाः पिशाचाश्च राक्षसा भीमविक्रमाः
The Maruts, divine Gandharvas, ascetic sages, Nagas, Yakshas, Pisachas, and Rakshasas of terrible might are all within it.
ब्रह्मा देवः पशुपतिर् ललाटस्था भ्रमन्ति वै स्थावराणि च सर्वाणि जङ्गमानि तथैव च
Brahma, the god, and Pasupati roam upon its forehead, along with all immovable and movable beings.
भवांश्च सहितो ऽस्माभिः सर्वैर्दैत्यगणैर्वृतः विमानशतसंकीर्णा तथैव भवतः सभा
You, together with us and all the hosts of demons, are surrounded by hundreds of flying chariots, and your assembly is likewise present.
सर्वं त्रिभुवनं राजंल् लोकधर्माश्च शाश्वताः दृश्यन्ते नारसिंहे ऽस्मिंस् तथेदमखिलं जगत्
All three worlds, O king, and the eternal laws of the realms, are seen within this Narasimha, as is the entire universe.
प्रजापतिश्चात्र मनुर् महात्मा ग्रहाश्च योगाश्च महीरुहाश्च उत्पातकालश्च धृतिर्मतिश्च रतिश्च सत्यं च तपो दमश्च
Here are Prajapati, the great-souled Manu, the planets, yogic powers, trees, the time of calamity, steadfastness, intelligence, pleasure, truth, austerity, and self-restraint.
सनत्कुमारश्च महानुभावो विश्वे च देवा ऋषयश्च सर्वे क्रोधश्च कामश्च तथैव हर्षो धर्मश्च मोहः पितरश्च सर्वे
Sanatkumara of great renown, all the gods, all the sages, wrath, desire, joy, righteousness, delusion, and all the ancestors are here.
प्रह्लादस्य वचः श्रुत्वा हिरण्यकशिपुः प्रभुः उवाच दानवान्सर्वान् गणांश्च स गणाधिपः
Hearing Prahlada's words, Hiranyakashipu, the lord, spoke to all the Danavas and their leaders.
मृगेन्द्रो गृह्यतामेष अपूर्वां तनुमास्थितः यदि वा संशयः कश्चिद् वध्यतां वनगोचरः
Let this lion be seized, possessing an unprecedented form. If there is any doubt, let him be slain, for he roams the forest.
ते दानवगणा सर्वे मृगेन्द्रं भीमविक्रमम् परिक्षिपन्तो मुदितास् त्रासयामासुरोजसा
All the hosts of Danavas, joyful, surrounded the lion of terrible prowess and sought to frighten him with their strength.
सिंहनादं विमुच्याथ नरसिंहो महाबलः बभञ्ज तां सभां दिव्यां व्यादितास्य इवान्तकः
Then Narasimha, of immense power, released a lion's roar and shattered that divine assembly, his mouth wide like Death.
सभायां भज्यमानायां हिरण्यकशिपुः स्वयम् चिक्षेपास्त्राणि सिंहस्य रोषाद्व्याकुललोचनः
As the assembly was being destroyed, Hiranyakashipu himself hurled weapons at the lion, his eyes wild with anger.
सर्वास्त्राणामथ ज्येष्ठं दण्डमन्त्रं सुदारुणम् कालचक्रं तथाघोरं विष्णुचक्रं तथा परम्
He then used all weapons, the foremost being the dreadful staff-mantra, the fierce time-wheel, and the supreme Vishnu-disc.
पैतामहं तथात्युग्रं त्रैलोक्यदहनं महत् विचित्रामशनीं चैव शुष्कार्द्रं चाशनिद्वयम्
He used the extremely fierce weapon of the grandsire, the great fire that burns the three worlds, and the wondrous thunderbolt, both dry and wet.
