वायवो वारिदाश्चासन् संमार्जनविधौ गिरेः हर्म्येषु श्रीः स्वयं देवी कृतनानाप्रसाधना
Winds and clouds performed the sweeping of the mountain's palaces; Lady Śrī herself adorned the goddess with various ornaments.
कान्तिः सर्वेषु भावेषु ऋद्धिश्चाभवदाकुला चिन्तामणिप्रभृतयो रत्नाः शैलं समन्ततः
Radiance filled all things, and prosperity abounded everywhere; jewels like wish-fulfilling gems and other precious stones surrounded the mountain on all sides.
उपतस्थुर्नगाश्चापि कल्पकाममहाद्रुमाः ओषध्यो मूर्तिमत्यश्च दिव्यौषधिसमन्विताः
Nagas, wish-fulfilling trees, and great celestial trees, as well as medicinal herbs in embodied form, endowed with divine properties, attended there.
रसाश्च धातवश्चैव सर्वे शैलस्य किंकराः किंकरास्तस्य शैलस्य व्यग्राश्चाज्ञानुवर्तिनः
All the juices and minerals became servants of the mountain, eager and obedient to its command.
नद्यः समुद्रा निखिलाः स्थावरं जङ्गमं च यत् तत्सर्वं हिमशैलस्य महिमानमवर्धयत्

And she spoke these words: 'O Śaṃkara, beget a son who, after slaying the race of Daitya lords, will satisfy me with their blood.'
सौरिर् ज्वलच्छिरोरत्नमुकुटं चानलोल्बणम् भुजगाभरणं गृह्य सज्जं शंभोः पुरो ऽभवत्
Sauri, bearing a blazing, fiery crown upon his head and adorned with serpent ornaments, stood prepared before Śambhu.
शक्रो गजाजिनं तस्य वसाभ्यक्ताग्रपल्लवम् दध्रे सरभसं स्विद्यद् विस्तीर्णमुखपङ्कजम्
Śakra, his broad lotus-like face sweating with exertion, eagerly donned the elephant hide, its edges anointed with fat.
वायुश्च विपुलं तीक्ष्णशृङ्गं हिमगिरिप्रभम् वृषं विभूषयामास हरयानं महौजसम्
Vāyu adorned the mighty, sharp-horned bull, shining like the Himalayan mountain, the powerful mount of Hara.
वितेनुर्नयनान्तःस्थाः शम्भोः सूर्यानलेन्दवः स्वां द्युतिं लोकनाथस्य जगतः कर्मसाक्षिणः

चिताभस्म समाधाय कपाले रजतप्रभम् मनुजास्थिमयीं मालाम् आबबन्ध च पाणिना
He applied funeral ash, shining like silver, to his skull, and with his hand fastened a garland made of human bones.
प्रेताधिपः पुरो द्वारे सगदः समवर्तत नानाकारमहारत्नभूषणं धनदाहृतम्
The Lord of the Dead stood at the entrance, bearing a mace, adorned with various forms and great jewels brought by the Lord of Wealth.
विहायोदग्रसर्पेन्द्रकटकेन स्वपाणिना कर्णोत्तंसं चकारेशो वासुकिं तक्षकं स्वयम्
Casting aside the splendid serpent bracelet from his own hand, the Lord himself fashioned Vasuki and Takṣaka as ear ornaments.
जलाधीशाहृतां स्थास्नुप्रसूनावेष्टितां पृथक् ततस्तु ते गणाधीशा विनयात्तत्र वीरकम्
Then, the leaders of the hosts, with reverence, separately brought the steadfast Vīraka, adorned with fresh flowers from the ocean lords.
प्रोचुर्व्यग्राकृते त्वं गां समावेदय शूलिने निष्पन्नाभरणं देवं प्रसाध्येशं प्रसाधनैः
They, busily engaged, said: 'Announce to the earth, O wielder of the trident, that the Lord, adorned and decorated, is now ready.'
सप्त वारिधयस्तस्थुः कर्तुं दर्पणविभ्रमम् ततो विलोकितात्मानं महाम्बुधिजलोदरे
The seven oceans stood as mirrors, and thus the Lord beheld his own reflection in the vast waters of the great ocean.
धरामालिङ्ग्य जानुभ्यां स्थाणुं प्रोवाच केशवः शोभसे देव रूपेण जगदानन्ददायिना
Embracing the earth with his knees, Keśava spoke to Sthāṇu: 'O God, you shine with a form that brings joy to the world.'
मातरः प्रेरयन् कामवधूं वैधव्यचिह्निताम् कालो ऽयमिति चालक्ष्य प्रकारेङ्गितसंज्ञया
The mothers sent forth the goddess of love, marked by the signs of widowhood, indicating by gestures that the time had come.
ततस्ताश्चोदिता देवम् ऊचुः प्रहसिताननाः रतिः पुरस्तव प्राप्ता नाभाति मदनोज्झिता
Then, prompted thus, the goddesses, their faces beaming with smiles, said to the Lord: 'Rati has come before you, though deprived of Madana.'
ततस्तां संनिर्वायाह वामहस्ताग्रसंज्ञया प्रयाणं गिरिजावक्त्रदर्शनोत्सुकमानसः
Then, with a gesture of his left hand, he dismissed her, his mind eager to see the face of Girijā as she set out.
ततो हरो हिमगिरिकन्दराकृतिं सितं कशामृदुहतिभिः प्रचोदयत् महावृषं गणतुमुलाहितेक्षणं स भूधरानशनिरिव प्रकम्पयन्
Then Hara urged on the great bull, white as a Himalayan cave, with a gentle whip, its fierce gaze scattering the hosts, shaking the mountains like a thunderbolt.
ततो हरिर्द्रुतपदपद्धतिः पुरः पुरःसरान्द्रुमनिकरेषु संश्रितान् धरारजःशबलितभूषणो ऽब्रवीत् प्रयात मा कुरुत पथो ऽस्य संकटम्
Then Hari, swift-footed, adorned with dust from the earth, spoke before those who had taken shelter among the foremost trees: 'Go forth; do not obstruct this path.'
प्रभोः पुनः प्रथमनियोगमूर्जयन् सुतो ऽब्रवीद् भ्रुकुटिमुखो ऽपि वीरकः वियच्चरा वियति किमस्ति कान्तकं प्रयात नो धरणिधराविदूरतः
The son, even with a frowning face, emboldened by the first command of the Lord, spoke: 'What thorn is there in the sky for those who move through it? Go forth, do not stay far from the mountain.'
महार्णवाः कुरुत शिलोपमं पयः सुरद्विषागमनमहातिकर्दमम् गणेश्वराश् चपलतया न गम्यतां सुरेश्वरैः स्थिरमतिभिर् निरीक्ष्यते
Let the great ocean make its waters like stone, for the coming of the enemies of the gods is a vast mire. O leaders of the hosts, do not proceed with fickleness; the steadfast lords of the gods observe.
न भृङ्गिणा स्वतनुमवेक्ष्य नीयते पिनाकिनः पृथुमुखमण्डम् अग्रतः वृथा यमः प्रकटितदन्तकोटरं त्वमायुधं वहसि विहाय संभ्रमम्
The bee does not lead its own form, nor does the broad-faced Pināka-holder go ahead. In vain, Yama bears his weapon with exposed teeth, abandoning haste.
पदं न यद्रथतुरगैः पुरद्विषः प्रमुच्यते बहुतरमातृसंकुलम् अमी सुराः पृथगनुयायिभिर्वृताः पदातयो द्विगुणपथान् हरप्रियाः
The step of the city-destroyer’s chariot horses is not freed from the crowd of mothers. These gods, surrounded by their separate followers, are foot-soldiers; Harapriyā’s followers take double paths.
स्ववाहनैः पवनविधूतचामरैश् चलध्वजैर्व्रजत विहारशालिभिः सुराः स्वकं किमिति सरागमूर्जितं विचार्यते नियतलयत्रयानुगम्
The gods proceed with their own vehicles, fans stirred by the wind, fluttering banners, delighting in sport. Why do they consider their own, full of passion, following the three prescribed abodes?
