लोकावसादमेकत्र जगत्पालनमेकतः चराचराणि भूतानि सुरासुरविभेदतः
The decline of the worlds was on one side, the preservation of the universe on the other; all beings, moving and unmoving, were divided into gods and demons.
तद्द्विधाप्येकतां यातं ददृशुः प्रेक्षका इव यद्वस्तु किंचिल् लोकेषु त्रिषु सत्तास्वरूपकम् तत् तत्रादृश्यद् अखिलं खिलीभूतविभूतिकम्
Even that duality became unity, as if spectators beheld it; whatever entity exists in the three worlds as the essential nature of existence, all that appeared there, manifesting as the totality of powers.
अस्त्राणि तेजांसि धनानि धैर्यं सेनाबलं वीर्यपराक्रमौ च सत्त्वौजसां तन्निकरं बभूव सुरासुराणां तपसो बलेन
Weapons, energies, treasures, courage, the strength of armies, valor and prowess, and the assemblage of all vital powers—these belonged to the gods and demons by the force of their austerity.
अथाभिमुखम् आयान्तं नवभिर्नतपर्वभिः बाणैरनलकल्पाग्रैर् बिभिदुस्तारकं हृदि

Then, bending his bow, Hari struck the charioteer of the demon king with sharp arrows in the heart; Dhūmaketu struck the banner, Mahendra the crown, Dhanesha the bow adorned with gold, Yama the arm, Vayu the chariot parts, and even the armor of the lord of night-walkers.
दृष्ट्वा तद्युद्धममरैर् अकृत्रिमपराक्रमम् दैत्यनाथः कृतं संख्ये स्वबाहुयुगबान्धवः

Pākaśāsana leapt from his chariot and reached the ground; the mace fell upon the chariot's seat with a harsh sound.
स रथं चूर्णयामास न ममार च मातलिः गृहीत्वा पट्टिशं दैत्यो जघानोरसि केशवम्
It crushed the chariot, but Mātali did not die; the demon seized a spear and struck Keśava in the chest.
स्कन्धे गरुत्मतः सो ऽपि निषसाद विचेतनः खड्गेन राक्षसेन्द्रस्य निचकर्त च वाहनम्
He collapsed, unconscious, upon Garuda's shoulder; with a sword, he cut down the vehicle of the king of rākṣasas.
यमं च पातयामास भूमौ दैत्यो भुशुण्डिना वह्निं च भिन्दिपालेन ताडयामास मूर्धनि
The demon struck Yama to the ground with a club, and struck Agni on the head with a sling.
वायुं च दोर्भ्यामुत्क्षिप्य पातयामास भूतले धनेशं च धनुष्कोट्या कुट्टयामास कोपनः
He lifted Vayu with his arms and threw him to the earth; in anger, he struck Dhanesha with the tip of his bow.
ततो देवनिकायानाम् एकैकं समरे ततः जघानास्त्रैरसंख्येयैर् दैत्येन्द्रो ऽमितविक्रमः
Then, in battle, the demon king, of boundless valor, slew each of the hosts of gods with countless weapons.
