With swift action, the slayer of Vṛtra severed his bow and arrow in battle; abandoning that bow, Jambha, the delight of the demons,
took up another bow, powerful and swift, and arrows resembling venomous serpents, straight and anointed with oil.
He struck Śakra with ten arrows in the region of the collarbone, three in the heart, and two in both shoulders.
Śakra, too, released such a shower of arrows upon the lord of the demons, but the demon king cut down the arrows hurled by Śakra's arms before they reached him.
He cut them down in the sky ten times with arrows blazing like tongues of fire; then, with a shower of arrows, the lord of the gods covered the lord of the demons.
With effort, he covered him as clouds cover the sky with rain; the demon, too, scattered that shower of arrows with sharp shafts.
Just as the wind disperses clouds, surrounding all directions, Śakra, then, in his rage and agitation, could no longer distinguish anything.
At that moment, he employed the wondrous Gandharva weapon against the lord of the demons; its rising energy filled the space, making it inaccessible.
With Gandharva cities, various ramparts and gateways, releasing marvels of form, it rained weapons in all directions.
Then, as the demon army was being struck by the rain of weapons, they sought refuge in Jambha, whose valor was immeasurable.
Though distressed himself, the demon, afflicted by the thousand-eyed one's weapons, recalled righteous conduct and became intent on protecting the fearful.
Then the son of Diti released the weapon called Mausala; thereafter, the world was filled with iron clubs.
With blows that could not be resisted, all around, the Gandharva city, fashioned by the Gandharva weapon, was struck.
He set another Gandharva weapon upon the army of the gods; with each blow, he swiftly slew elephants, horses, and great charioteers.
He quickly killed chariots and horses by the hundreds and thousands; then the lord of the gods invoked the Tvaṣṭra weapon.
As the Tvaṣṭra weapon was being invoked, flames of fire emerged; then divine weapons, made of machines and impossible to withstand, appeared.
With those machines, a canopy was formed in the sky; with that canopy, the Mausala weapon was subdued and ceased.
Jambha released the mountain weapon, striking the assembly of machines; then a shower of stones, each the size of a span, began to fall.
The machines swiftly fashioned by Tvaṣṭṛ were then, by the impact of that hail, reduced to atoms.
Having shattered the machines into particles, the mountain-missile fell with great force upon the highest peaks, and split the earth.
Then the thousand-eyed Purandara fashioned the thunderbolt-missile; thereupon, a great shower of hailstones was released in all directions.
When the mountain-missile was subdued, Jambha, resembling a mountain, unafraid and exceedingly mighty, created the reed-missile.
By the reed-missile, the thunderbolt-missile dear to Śakra was destroyed; then, as the supreme and exceedingly difficult reed-missile expanded,
The armies of the gods, along with their chariots and elephants, blazed forth; as the battle lines were consumed, the best of the gods shone with radiance.
Then the mighty lord of the gods fashioned the fire-missile; by that weapon, the previous missile was immediately dispelled.
When that weapon was repelled, the fire-missile was unleashed; it blazed, burning Jambha's body, his chariot, and his charioteer.
Then, repulsed, the wise lord of the Daityas released the Varuṇa-missile, which quelled the flames of fire.
Then the sky was filled with clouds, flashing with masses of lightning, and resounding with deep drum-like thunder, as if the heavens were overflowing.
With torrents of water, equal to the trunks of great elephants, falling from the sky, the entire world was instantly filled and shone forth.
Seeing the fire-missile subdued, the lord of the gods fashioned the wind-missile, which destroys masses of clouds.
