Then Yama, leaping from his buffalo as it was falling, struck Grasana firmly in the face with a spear.
Struck by the spear, Grasana lost consciousness and fell to the ground; seeing Grasana fallen, Jambha, of terrible prowess,
Yama struck with his mace at the heart, and from that blow, blood flowed from Yama’s mouth.
Seeing Kṛtānta crushed, the lord of wealth, holding his mace and surrounded by hundreds of thousands of Yakṣas, advanced in anger against Jambha.
Jambha, surrounded by the army of Dānavas, seeing him approach in wrath, spoke wise words, gentle in tone.
Then Grasana, regaining consciousness, sent forth a mighty mace adorned with jewels and gold, heavy and crusher of enemies, against Yama.
Seeing that unfathomable mace, the buffalo-rider, for the sake of countering it, released his own dreadful mace, terrifying to the worlds.
In anger he hurled his staff, blazing with garlands of flames; it reached the mace in the sky and roared like a cloud heavy with rain.
There was a clash between the two, as unbearable as between mountains, and from their crushing impact, the quarters were stunned with a deafening sound.
The world was thrown into turmoil, fearing the coming of dissolution; in a moment, the roaring ceased, and the sky was filled with blazing meteors.
From their dreadful collision in the sky, the mace was destroyed; then the staff struck Grasana on the head.
Like misfortune seizing wealth, it fell hard upon the wicked one; from that blow, he saw the directions darkened.
He fell unconscious to the earth, covered in dust; then a terrible cry of lament arose from both armies.
After a moment, Grasana regained consciousness and saw his own body ruined, with ornaments and garments in disarray.
He then reflected on the cause and effect of actions, considering that for one like himself, disgrace arises from the lord’s contempt.
The armies that depended on me are destroyed with my defeat; let people act as they wish, for such is the unexpected way of things.
But a man whose wealth is only imagined and loudly proclaimed is nothing; thinking thus, the mighty one rose up swiftly.
Grasana, grim in resolve, lips pressed tight, took up a club like the rod of Time, massive as a mountain.
Hastening in his chariot, he did not reach Antaka in battle; but encountering Yama in the fight, Grasana whirled his club.
With great speed, he hurled the fierce club at Yama’s head; seeing the blazing club, Yama’s eyes were filled with alarm.
That mighty one deceived the formidable Mudgara, who then retreated far from those fierce and terrible warriors.
He crushed a thousand attendants of Yama, and seeing that dreadful host of attendants slain,
Grasana, raising various weapons, became greatly agitated upon beholding that army made up of attendants.
He thought that thousands of Yamas had been created by Yama's illusion; restraining himself, Grasana released showers of weapons upon the army.
Enraged, he became like the terror at the end of an age; some he pierced with his spear, others with straight-flying arrows.
Some he crushed with his mace, some with showers of clubs; others were struck at that time by fierce blows of javelins.
Many others hung from his arm, while some struck him with stones, and others with great, towering trees.
Some bit his limbs with their teeth, while others, the attendants, struck his back with their fists.
Thus, attacked by those fierce ones, Grasana, maddened by anger, abandoned his body on the ground and crushed thousands.
Rising up, he struck some who clung to the attendants with his fists; but through this battle with the attendants, Grasana became weary.
