वायुनुन्नः स च तरुः शीर्णपुष्पो महारवः विद्युन्मालिशरैश्छिन्नः पपात पतगेशवत्
That tree, battered by the wind, its flowers scattered, roared loudly, and, cut down by Vidyunmālī's arrows, fell like the king of birds.
वृक्षमालोक्य तं छिन्नं दानवेन वरेषुभिः रोषमाहारयत्तीव्रं नन्दीश्वरः सुविग्रहः
Seeing that tree cut down by the demon's excellent arrows, Nandīśvara, of mighty form, was seized by intense wrath.
सोद्यम्य करमारावे रविशक्रकरप्रभम् दुद्राव हन्तुं स क्रूरं महिषं गजराडिव
With his hand raised, shining with the brilliance of the sun and Indra, he charged forth to slay that cruel buffalo, like a lord of elephants.
तमापतन्तं वेगेन वेगवान्प्रसभं बलात् विद्युन्माली शरशतैः पूरयामास नन्दिनम्
As he rushed forward with great speed and force, Vidyunmali filled Nandi with hundreds of arrows.
शरकण्टकिताङ्गो वै शैलादिः सो ऽभवत्पुनः अरेर्गृह्य रथं तस्य महतः प्रययौ जवात्
His body pierced with arrows, Śailādi became like a mountain once more; seizing the great chariot, he swiftly departed.
विलम्बिताश्वो विशिरो भ्रमितश्च रणे रथः पपात मुनिशापेन सादित्यो ऽर्करथो यथा
His horse delayed, his head spinning, and his chariot whirling in battle, he fell by the sage's curse, like the sun's chariot falling.
अन्तरान्निर्गतश्चैव मायया स दितेः सुतः आजघान तदा शक्त्या शैलादिं समवस्थितम्
Then, the son of Diti emerged from within by his illusion and struck Śailādi, who stood firm, with a spear.
तामेव तु विनिष्क्रम्य शक्तिं शोणितभूषिताम् विद्युन्मालिनमुद्दिश्य चिक्षेप प्रमथाग्रणीर्
Śailādi, having extracted that very blood-stained spear, hurled it at Vidyunmali, the leader of the Pramathas.
तया भिन्नतनुत्राणो विभिन्नहृदयस्त्वपि विद्युन्माल्यपतद्भूमौ वज्राहत इवाचलः
Pierced by that spear, his armor shattered and his heart split, Vidyunmali fell to the earth like a mountain struck by thunder.
विद्युन्मालिनि निहते सिद्धचारणकिंनराः साधु साध्विति चोक्त्वा ते पूजयन्त उमापतिम्
With Vidyunmali slain, the Siddhas, Charanas, and Kinnaras exclaimed 'Excellent, excellent!' and worshipped Umāpati.
नन्दिना सादिते दैत्ये विद्युन्मालौ हते मयः ददाह प्रमथानीकं वनमग्निरिवोद्धतः
With the demon defeated by Nandi and Vidyunmali slain, Maya burned the host of Pramathas like a raging forest fire.
शूलनिर्दारितोरस्का गदाचूर्णितमस्तकाः इषुभिर्गाढविद्धाश्च पतन्ति प्रमथार्णवे
Their chests torn by spears, heads crushed by maces, and bodies deeply pierced by arrows, they fell into the ocean of Pramathas.
नागं तु नागाधिपतेः शताक्षं मयो विदार्येषुवरेण तूर्णम् यमं च वित्ताधिपतिं च विद्ध्वा ररास मत्ताम्बुदवत्तदानीम्
Maya swiftly pierced Shataksha, the serpent king, with a mighty arrow, and wounded Yama and the lord of wealth, roaring like a maddened cloud.
ततः शरैः प्रमथगणैश्च दानवा दृढाहताश्चोत्तमवेगविक्रमाः भृशानुविद्धास्त्रिपुरं प्रवेशिता यथा शिवश्चक्रधरेण संयुगे
Then, struck firmly by arrows from the Pramatha hosts, the powerful demons, greatly wounded, were driven into Tripura, just as Shiva entered with his discus in battle.
ततस्तु शङ्खानकभेरिमर्दलाः ससिंहनादा दनुपुत्रभङ्गदाः कपर्दिसैन्ये प्रबभुः समन्ततो निपात्यमाना युधि वज्रसंनिभाः
Then, conch shells, drums, and cymbals resounded with lion-roars, announcing the defeat of the sons of Danu; in Kapardi's army, they fell everywhere in battle, shining like thunderbolts.
अथ दैत्यपुराभावे पुष्ययोगो बभूव ह बभूव चापि संयुक्तं तद्योगेन पुरत्रयम्
When the city of the demons was destroyed, the auspicious conjunction occurred, and by that conjunction, the three cities became united.
ततो बाणं त्रिधा देवस् त्रिदैवतमयं हरः मुमोच त्रिपुरे तूर्णं त्रिनेत्रस्त्रिपथाधिपः
Then, Hara, the three-eyed lord of the three paths, released a threefold arrow composed of the three deities, swiftly at Tripura.
तेन मुक्तेन बाणेन बाणपुष्पसमप्रभम् आकाशं स्वर्णसंकाशं कृतं सूर्येण रञ्जितम्
That arrow, released, shone like a garland of arrows; the sky became golden, tinged by the sun.
मुक्त्वा त्रिदैवतमयं त्रिपुरे त्रिदशः शरम् धिग्धिङ् मामिति चक्रन्द कष्टं कष्टमिति ब्रुवन्
Having released the arrow made of the three deities at Tripura, the gods cried out, 'Alas, alas!' and exclaimed, 'How terrible!'
वैधुर्यं दैवतं दृष्ट्वा शैलादिर्गजवद्गतः किमिदं त्विति पप्रच्छ शूलपाणिं महेश्वरम्
Seeing the gods bewildered, Śailādi, like an elephant, approached and asked Maheśvara, the wielder of the trident, 'What is this?'
ततः शशाङ्कतिलकः कपर्दी परमार्तवत् उवाच नन्दिनं भक्तः स मयो ऽद्य विनङ्क्ष्यति
Then, the moon-crested, matted-haired one, deeply moved, spoke to Nandi: 'That Maya, though devoted, will perish today.'
अथ नन्दीश्वरस्तूर्णं मनोमारुतवद्बली शरे त्रिपुरमायाति त्रिपुरं प्रविवेश सः
Thereupon, Nandi, swift and powerful as the wind of the mind, went toward Tripura and entered the city.
स मयं प्रेक्ष्य गणपः प्राह काञ्चनसंनिभः विनाशस्त्रिपुरस्यास्य प्राप्तो मय सुदारुणः अनेनैव गृहेण त्वम् अपक्राम ब्रवीम्यहम्
Seeing Maya, the golden-hued leader of the hosts said: 'A terrible destruction has come upon this Tripura, O Maya. Leave this house at once, I tell you.'
श्रुत्वा तन्नन्दिवचनं दृढभक्तो महेश्वरे तेनैव गृहमुख्येण त्रिपुराद् अपसर्पितः
Hearing Nandi's words, that steadfast devotee of Maheshvara departed from Tripura by the main gate.
सो ऽपीषुः पत्त्रपुटवद् दग्ध्वा तन्नगरत्रयम् त्रिधा इव हुताशश्च सोमो नारायणस्तथा
Then, like a leaf in a flame, he burned the three cities; and as if split in three, the fire, the moon, and Narayana did likewise.
शरतेजःपरीतानि पुराणि द्विजपुंगवाः दुष्पुत्रदोषाद्दह्यन्ते कुलान्यूर्ध्वं यथा तथा
O best of twice-born, the cities, filled with the brilliance of the arrow, were consumed, just as lineages are destroyed above due to the fault of a wicked son.
मेरुकैलासकल्पानि मन्दराग्रनिभानि च सकपाटगवाक्षाणि बलिभिः शोभितानि च
They were like Meru and Kailasa, resembling the peaks of Mandara, adorned with doors and windows, splendid with offerings.
सप्रासादानि रम्याणि कूटागारोत्कटानि च सजलानि समाख्यानि सावलोकनकानि च
With beautiful palaces, towering mansions, rain-filled reservoirs, and renowned halls fit for viewing, they were magnificent.
बद्धध्वजपताकानि स्वर्णरौप्यमयानि च गृहाणि तस्मिंस्त्रिपुरे दानवानामुपद्रवे दह्यन्ते दहनाभानि दहनेन सहस्रशः
The houses in Tripura, adorned with banners and flags of gold and silver, belonging to the Danavas, were burned by fire in thousands, blazing like fire itself.
प्रासादाग्रेषु रम्येषु वनेषूपवनेषु च वातायनगताश्चान्याश् चाकाशस्य तलेषु च
In the lovely palaces, in the forests and groves, and in the upper chambers and open spaces, others too were present.
