देवदारुवने पुष्टिर् मेधा काश्मीरमण्डले भीमा देवी हिमाद्रौ तु पुष्टिर्विश्वेश्वरे तथा
Pushti in Devadaru forest; Medha in Kashmir region; Bhima Devi in the Himalayas; Pushti at Vishveshvara likewise.
कपालमोचने शुद्धिर् माता कायावरोहणे शङ्खोद्धारे ध्वनिर्नाम धृतिः पिण्डारके तथा
Shuddhi at Kapalamochana; Mother at Kayavarohana; Dhvani at Shankhoddhara; Dhriti at Pindaraka likewise.
काला तु चन्द्रभागायाम् अच्छोदे शिवकारिणी वेणायाममृता नाम बदर्यामुर्वशी तथा
Kala in Chandrabhaga; Shivakarini at Acchoda; Amrita in Vena; Urvashi at Badari likewise.
ओषधी चोत्तरकुरौ कुशद्वीपे कुशोदका मन्मथा हेमकूटे तु मुकुटे सत्यवादिनी
Oshadhi in Uttarakuru; Kushodaka in Kushadvipa; Manmatha at Hemakuta; Mukuta at Satyavadini.
अश्वत्थे वन्दनीया तु निधिर्वैश्रवणालये गायत्री वेदवदने पार्वती शिवसंनिधौ
Vandaniya at Ashvattha; Nidhi at Vaishravana's abode; Gayatri at Veda's mouth; Parvati in Shiva's presence.
देवलोके तथेन्द्राणी ब्रह्मास्येषु सरस्वती सूर्यबिम्बे प्रभा नाम मातॄणां वैष्णवी मता
Indrani in the world of the gods; Sarasvati at Brahma's seat; Prabha in the sun's orb; Vaishnavi among the Mothers.
अरुन्धती सतीनां तु रामासु च तिलोत्तमा चित्ते ब्रह्मकला नाम शक्तिः सर्वशरीरिणाम्
Among virtuous women, Arundhati, among the Ramas, Tilottama, and in the mind, the power called Brahmakala—this energy abides in all embodied beings.
एतदुद्देशतः प्रोक्तं नामाष्टशतमुत्तमम् अष्टोत्तरं च तीर्थानां शतमेतदुदाहृतम्
Thus, in brief, one hundred and eight excellent names have been spoken; and likewise, a hundred sacred places have been enumerated here.
यः स्मरेच्छृणुयाद् वापि सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते एषु तीर्थेषु यः कृत्वा स्नानं पश्यति मां नरः
Whoever remembers or hears this is freed from all sins; and whoever, after bathing at these sacred places, beholds me, O man—
सर्वपापविनिर्मुक्तः कल्पं शिवपुरे वसेत् यस्तु मत्परमं कालं करोत्येतेषु मानवः
—becomes completely rid of all sins and dwells in the city of Shiva for a kalpa; but whoever dedicates the supreme time to me among these—
स भित्त्वा ब्रह्मसदनं पदमभ्येति शांकरम् नाम्नामष्टशतं यस्तु श्रावयेच्छिवसंनिधौ
—he, breaking through the abode of Brahma, attains the state of Shiva. And whoever causes these one hundred and eight names to be recited in the presence of Shiva—
तृतीयायामथाष्टम्यां बहुपुत्रो भवेन्नरः गोदाने श्राद्धदाने वा अहन्य् अहनि वा बुधः
—on the third or eighth lunar day, that man will have many sons; whether on the day of giving cows, or at a funeral offering, or on any day, the wise—
देवार्चनविधौ विद्वान् पठन् ब्रह्माधिगच्छति एवं वदन्ती सा तत्र ददाहात्मानम् आत्मना
—one learned in the rites of worshipping the gods, reciting this, attains Brahman. Thus she spoke there, offering herself by herself.
स्वायम्भुवो ऽपि कालेन दक्षः प्राचेतसो ऽभवत् पार्वती साभवद्देवी शिवदेहार्धधारिणी
Even Svayambhu, in time, became Daksha, the son of Pracetas; and Parvati became the goddess, the bearer of half the body of Shiva.
मेनागर्भसमुत्पन्ना भुक्तमुक्तिफलप्रदा अरुन्धती जपन्त्येतत् प्राप योगमनुत्तमम्
Born from the womb of Mena, she grants the fruits of enjoyment and liberation; Arundhati, by reciting this, attained the supreme yoga.
पुरूरवाश्च राजर्षिलोके व्यजेयताम् अगात् ययातिः पुत्रलाभं च धनलाभं च भार्गवः
And Pururavas, in the world of royal sages, attained renown; Yayati, the gain of sons and wealth; and Bhargava likewise.
तथान्ये देवदैत्याश्च ब्राह्मणाः क्षत्रियास्तथा वैश्याः शूद्राश्च बहवः सिद्धिमीयुर्यथेप्सिताम्
So too, other gods and demons, Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, and many Shudras attained the success they desired.
यत्रैतल्लिखितं तिष्ठेत् पूज्यते देवसंनिधौ न तत्र शोको दौर्गत्यं कदाचिदपि जायते
Where this is written and worshipped in the presence of the gods, there sorrow or misfortune never arises.
लोकाः सोमपथा नाम यत्र मारीचनन्दनाः वर्तन्ते देव पितरो देवा यान्भावयन्त्यलम्
There are worlds called the path of Soma, where the descendants of Marici dwell—divine ancestors whom the gods continually honor.
अग्निष्वात्ता इति ख्याता यज्वानो यत्र संस्थिताः अच्छोदा नाम तेषां तु मानसी कन्यका नदी
There, those known as the Agnishvattas, performers of sacrifice, reside; among them is a river named Acchoda, a maiden born of the mind.
अच्छोदं नाम च सरः पितृभिर्निर्मितं पुरा अच्छोदा तु तपश्चक्रे दिव्यं वर्षसहस्रकम्
There is also a lake called Acchoda, created long ago by the ancestors; and Acchoda performed divine austerity for a thousand years.
आजग्मुः पितरस्तुष्टाः किल दातुं च तां वरम् दिव्यरूपधराः सर्वे दिव्यमाल्यानुलेपनाः
The ancestors, pleased, came there to grant her a boon, all assuming divine forms, adorned with heavenly garlands and ointments.
सर्वे युवानो बलिनः कुसुमायुधसंनिभाः तन्मध्ये ऽमावसुं नाम पितरं वीक्ष्य साङ्गना
All were young, strong, and resembled the god of love; among them, seeing the ancestor named Amavasu, she, with her companions—
वव्रे वरार्थिनी सङ्गं कुसुमायुधपीडिता योगाद्भ्रष्टा तु सा तेन व्यभिचारेण भामिनी
—desiring a boon and struck by the god of love, chose union with him; but, fallen from yoga by that transgression, the radiant maiden—
धरां तु नास्पृशत्पूर्वं पपाताथ भुवस्तले तिथाव् अमावसुर् यस्याम् इच्छां चक्रे न तां प्रति
But she did not touch the earth before; then she fell upon the surface of the ground, on the new moon day, when she willed not to do so.
धैर्येण तस्य सा लोकैर् अमावास्येति विश्रुता पितॄणां वल्लभा तस्मात् तस्यामक्षयकारकम्
Because of her patience, she became known among people as Amavasya, beloved of the ancestors; therefore, she brings inexhaustible merit.
अच्छोदाधोमुखी दीना लज्जिता तपसः क्षयात् सा पितॄन् प्रार्थयामास पुरे चात्मप्रसिद्धये
Downcast, facing downward, distressed, and ashamed due to the loss of her austerity, she then prayed to the ancestors for her own renown.
विलप्यमाना पितृभिर् इदमुक्ता तपस्विनी भविष्यमर्थमालोक्य देवकार्यं च ते तदा
As she lamented, the ancestors spoke these words to the ascetic, foreseeing what would come and the task of the gods.
इदम् ऊचुर् महाभागाः प्रसादशुभया गिरा दिवि दिव्यशरीरेण यत् किंचित् क्रियते बुधैः
The illustrious ones said this with words of favor and blessing: 'Whatever is done by the wise in the heavenly body in heaven—'
तेनैव तत्कर्मफलं भुज्यते वरवर्णिनी सद्यः फलन्ति कर्माणि देवत्वे प्रेत्य मानुषे
'By that very act, O beautiful one, the fruit of that deed is enjoyed—immediately in the divine state, or after death in the human state.'
