These twelve groups of seven, each with their own station and pride, infuse the sun with supreme brilliance.
With woven words, the sages praise the sun; gandharvas and apsarases worship with song and dance.
The Yakshas, foremost in knowledge, gather the desired offerings; the serpents move along with the sun, and the followers of the Yatudhanas accompany him as well.
The Valakhilyas, encircling the sun at its rise, lead it to its setting; among these very deities, each acts according to their strength and radiance.
According to their union, their righteousness, their true nature, and their power, so does this sun burn; it is ignited by the brilliance of those beings.
By his own radiance, he dispels all inauspiciousness from beings; for humans, their misfortunes are removed by these auspicious ones.
The misfortune of those who act virtuously is sometimes dispelled by them; together with the sun, they wander in the sky along with their attendants.
Shining, reciting, and bringing delight to beings, they protect all creatures and strive with compassion.
This is the station of those who preside over places, in every Manvantara—those of the past, the future, and those who exist now.
Thus, seven groups dwell with the sun, and there are fourteen in total; in each of the fourteen Manvantaras, these hosts exist.
In summer, winter, and the rains, they release, in due order, righteousness, cold, and rain, day and night, as is proper.
He moves on day by day, turning his rays, fully satisfying the gods, ancestors, and humans; in the waxing and waning fortnights, and at the end of time, the gods drink (the essence).
In a month, that nectar of his, preserved in the rays for good rainfall, is drunk by all the ancestors; the gods, the gentle ones, and the Kavyas likewise partake.
Nourished by the waters raised by the sun's rays, and again by the waters lifted up, and by the rain that falls, mortals overcome hunger with food produced from those plants.
By that, the gods are satisfied for half a month, the ancestors for a month with nectar and oblations, and humans live constantly by food; the sun bears all this, supported by cows.
Thus, the sun swiftly moves with a single wheel; there, with those unceasing horses, he travels at the end of the day.
Hari is borne by green horses; he drinks the waters along with the Haris, releasing them again in a thousand streams; that Hari, bewildered, is carried by the swift Haris.
He circles day and night in his chariot with a single wheel, swiftly traversing the seven continents and oceans with his seven teams of seven.
With those horses of metrical forms, the wheel is joined; its stability comes from those who take on forms at will, yoked once, moving as they desire, swift as the mind.
With green, tireless, tawny horses—lords versed in the Vedas—outside and within, the circle (of the sun) proceeds in the order of days.
At the beginning of the kalpa, joined together, they carry the great flood of beings; enveloped by the Vālakhilya sages, it wanders through days and nights.
Praised by the great sages with their composed words, it is served with songs and dances by the hosts of Gandharvas and Apsarases.
The lord of the sky, revolving with birds, winged horses, and steeds, moves along the paths, and so do the stars and the moon.
Its rays, remembered as those of the sun, undergo increase and decrease; the chariot of the moon is known to have three wheels and horses on both sides.
The chariot, together with horses and charioteer, arises from the womb of the waters, equipped with three white, excellent horses and wheels.
With ten divine horses, unattached and swift as the mind, once yoked to the chariot, they carry it without fatigue.
Gathered in that chariot are the horses named Śveta and Cakṣuḥśravā; all are of one color, bearing the brilliance of conch shells.
Aja, Tripatha, Vṛṣa, Vājī, Nara, Haya, Aṃśumān, Saptadhātu, Haṃsa, and Vyomamṛga—these are their names.
Thus, these ten horses of the moon, by their names, carry the god Chandra without fatigue.
Surrounded by the gods, Soma travels together with the ancestors, beginning from the bright fortnight, when the sun stands apart.
