There was no time for them, nor punishment or punisher; knowing righteousness, they protected one another by their own proper duties.
There is a great circular continent called Kuśa, surrounded by rivers and waters, and mountains resembling clouds.
It is adorned with all kinds of minerals, decorated with jewels and coral, and with other beautiful and variously shaped, delightful regions.
It is filled everywhere with trees bearing flowers and fruits, always abundant in wealth and grain, ever covered with flowers and fruits, and surrounded by all precious gems.
It is encircled on all sides by all kinds of animals, both domestic and wild; now, hear in order and briefly about the Kuśa continent.
Now I will describe in full the third, the Kuśa continent, which is entirely surrounded by the ocean of milk.
It is twice the size in extent as the Śāka continent; there too are seven mountains, known as sources of jewels.
There are jewel-bearing mountains and rivers; listen to their names from me. All of them have two names, just as in the Śāka continent.
The first mountain, shining like the sun, is called Kumuda, and is also known as Vidrumoccaya, that very same great mountain.

The fourth mountain is Droṇa, a great mountain where medicinal herbs grow, including Viśalyakaraṇī and Mṛtasaṃjīvanī.
That mountain, richly piled up, is called Puṣpavān; among them, the fifth mountain is named Kaṅka, full of essence.

Mandara is to be known as the auspicious mountain composed of all elements; 'manda' is the element that reveals what is hidden.
Because it splits the waters, it is called Mandara; there, Indra himself guards many gems.
Taking Prajapati, he apportioned to the creatures; among them, the inner support is said to be double.
Thus these seven mountains in Kuśadvīpa have been described; I will now speak of their seven regions, each separately.

These, too, are distinguished—seven regions and seven mountains, each separate; learn also of the rivers among them.
There, too, seven rivers are remembered for each region; all are known by two names and all are considered holy waters.
