याममात्रे गते रात्रौ विनिर्गत्य गुहामुखात् आवसन्संयुताः कान्तैः परर्द्धिरचितां गुहाम्
When a watch of the night had passed, they left the cave's entrance and, together with their beloveds, dwelled in a cave adorned with great splendor.
नानागन्धान्वितलतां नानागन्धसुगन्धिनीम् नानाविचित्रशयनां कुसुमोत्करमण्डिताम्
It was filled with creepers of various fragrances, fragrant with many scents, furnished with diverse and wondrous beds, decorated with heaps of flowers.
एवम् अप्सरसां पश्यन् क्रीडितानि स पर्वते तपस्तेपे महाराजन् केशवार्पितमानसः
Thus, seeing the play of the apsarases on the mountain, he, O great king, performed austerities with his mind devoted to Keśava.
तमूचुर्नृपतिं गत्वा गन्धर्वाप्सरसां गणाः राजन्स्वर्गोपमं देशम् इमं प्राप्तो ऽस्यरिंदम
Then the groups of Gandharvas and apsarases approached the king and said, 'O subduer of foes, you have reached this land, equal to heaven.'
वयं हि ते प्रदास्यामो मनसः काङ्क्षितान्वरान् तानादाय गृहं गच्छ तिष्ठेह यदि वा पुनः
'We will grant you the boons your heart desires; take them and return home, or remain here again if you wish.'
अमोघदर्शनाः सर्वे भवन्तस्त्वमितौजसः वरं वितरताद्यैव प्रसादं मधुसूदनात्
'All of you are blessed with unfailing vision, and you, O powerful one, may grant a boon today, receiving favor from Madhusudana.'
एवमस्त्वित्यथोक्तस्तैः स तु राजा पुरूरवाः तत्रोवास सुखी मासं पूजयानो जनार्दनम्
When thus addressed by them, King Pururavas replied, 'So be it,' and remained there happily for a month, worshipping Janardana.
प्रिय एव सदैवासीद् गन्धर्वाप्सरसां नृपः तुतोष स जनो राज्ञस् तस्यालौल्येन कर्मणा
The king was always dear to the Gandharvas and apsarases; the people were pleased with the king's conduct, free from greed.
फाल्गुनामलपक्षान्ते राजा स्वप्ने पुरूरवाः तस्यैव देवदेवस्य श्रुतवान्गदितं शुभम्
At the end of the bright fortnight of Phalguna, King Pururavas heard in a dream the auspicious words of that very god of gods.
रात्र्यामस्यां व्यतीतायाम् अत्रिणा त्वं समेष्यसि तेन राजन्समागम्य कृतकृत्यो भविष्यसि
'When this night-watch has passed, you will meet Atri; O king, after meeting him, you will accomplish your purpose.'
स्वप्नमेवं स राजर्षिर् दृष्ट्वा देवेन्द्रविक्रमः प्रत्यूषकाले विधिवत् स्नातः स प्रयतेन्द्रियः
Thus seeing this in a dream, the royal sage, possessing Indra's valor, at dawn bathed according to rite, with controlled senses.
कृतकृत्यो यथाकामं पूजयित्वा जनार्दनम् ददर्शात्रिं मुनिं राजा प्रत्यक्षं तपसां निधिम्
Having fulfilled his purpose and worshipped Janardana as he wished, the king saw Atri the sage directly, the repository of austerities.
स्वप्नं तु देवदेवस्य न्यवेदयत धार्मिकः ततः शुश्राव वचनं देवतानां समीरितम्
The righteous one reported his dream of the Lord of gods; then he heard the words spoken by the deities.
एवमेतन्महीपाल नात्र कार्या विचारणा एवं प्रसादं सम्प्राप्य देवदेवाज्जनार्दनात्
So it is, O king—there is no need for further deliberation; having thus obtained the grace of Janardana, Lord of gods—
कृतदेवार्चनो राजा तथा हुतहुताशनः सर्वान्कामानवाप्तो ऽसौ वरदानेन केशवात्
The king, having worshipped the gods and offered oblations into the sacred fire, attained all desires by the boon granted from Keshava.
तस्याश्रमस्योत्तरतस् त्रिपुरारिनिषेवितः नानारत्नमयैः शृङ्गैः कल्पद्रुमसमन्वितैः
To the north of that hermitage, frequented by the enemy of Tripura, stands a mountain adorned with peaks of various jewels and wish-fulfilling trees.
मध्ये हिमवतः पृष्ठे कैलासो नाम पर्वतः तस्मिन्निवसति श्रीमान् कुबेरः सह गुह्यकैः
In the midst of the Himalayas, on its back, is the mountain called Kailāsa; there dwells the illustrious Kubera with the Guhyakas.
अप्सरो ऽनुगुप्तो राजा मोदते ह्यलकाधिपः कैलासपादसम्भूतं पुण्यं शीतजलं शुभम्
Unhindered by apsaras, the king of Alakā delights there; at the foot of Kailāsa arises the holy, pure, and cool water.
मन्दोदकं नाम सरः पयस्तु दधिसंनिभम् तस्मात् प्रवहते दिव्या नदी मन्दाकिनी शुभा
There is a lake named Mandodaka, whose waters resemble milk and curds; from it flows the divine and auspicious river Mandākinī.
दिव्यं च नन्दनं तत्र तस्यास्तीरे महद्वनम् प्रागुत्तरेण कैलासाद् दिव्यं सौगन्धिकं गिरिम्
There, on its bank, is the divine Nandana, a great forest; to the northeast of Kailāsa is the divine Saugandhika mountain.
सर्वधातुमयं दिव्यं सुवेलं पर्वतं प्रति चन्द्रप्रभो नाम गिरिः यः शुभ्रो रत्नसंनिभः
There is the splendid Suvela mountain, made of all metals; facing it is the mountain named Chandraprabha, shining white like a jewel.
तत्समीपे सरो दिव्यम् अच्छोदं नाम विश्रुतम् तस्मात्प्रभवते दिव्या नदी ह्यच्छोदका शुभा
Near it is the renowned divine lake called Acchoda; from it flows the pure and auspicious river Acchodakā.
तस्यास्तीरे वनं दिव्यं महच्चैत्ररथं शुभम् तस्मिन्गिरौ निवसति मणिभद्रः सहानुगः
On its bank is the divine and great forest called Caitraratha; on that mountain dwells Maṇibhadra with his followers.
यक्षसेनापतिः क्रूरो गुह्यकैः परिवारितः पुण्या मन्दाकिनी नाम नदी ह्यच्छोदका शुभा
The fierce commander of the Yakṣas, surrounded by Guhyakas, resides there; the holy and auspicious river Mandākinī of pure waters flows there.
महीमण्डलमध्ये तु प्रविष्टे तु महोदधिम् कैलासदक्षिणे प्राच्यां शिवं सर्वौषधिं गिरिम्
In the middle of the earth's circle, where the great ocean enters, to the south-east of Kailāsa is the mountain Śiva, full of all herbs.
मनःशिलामयं दिव्यं सुवेलं पर्वतं प्रति लोहितो हेमशृङ्गस्तु गिरिः सूर्यप्रभो महान्
There is the splendid Suvela mountain made of cinnabar; facing it is the great mountain Sūryaprabha, red with golden peaks.
तस्य पादे महद्दिव्यं लोहितं सुमहत्सरः तस्मात्प्रभवते पुण्यो लौहित्यश्च नदो महान्
At its foot is a great and divine red lake; from it arises the holy and mighty river Lauhitya.
दिव्यारण्यं विशोकं च तस्य तीरे महद्वनम् तस्मिन्गिरौ निवसति यक्षो मणिधरो वशी
On its bank is the divine and sorrowless forest, a great woodland; on that mountain dwells the Yakṣa Maṇidhara, self-controlled.
सौम्यैः सुधार्मिकैश्चैव गुह्यकैः परिवारितः कैलासात्पश्चिमोदीच्यां ककुद्मानौषधीगिरिः
He is surrounded by gentle and virtuous Guhyakas; to the northwest of Kailāsa is the mountain Kakudman, rich in herbs.
ककुद्मति च रुद्रस्य उत्पत्तिश्च ककुद्मिनः तदञ्जनं त्रैककुदं शैलं त्रिककुदं प्रति
On Kakudman is the origin of Rudra and the birth of Kakudmin; there is the mountain named Añjana, and the three-peaked mountain Trikakuda.
