Now I will describe the regions inhabited by those who dwell in the mountains, who are without sustenance, who roam everywhere, and who follow difficult and trackless paths.

Those who wear garments of coarse cloth, those clothed in wool, the Samudgakas, the Trigartas, the Mandalas, and the Kiratas together with the Amaras.
The sages have spoken of four ages in the land of Bharata: Krita, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali—the four yugas. I will describe their nature to you, and also explain them fully.
Having heard this, the sages once again eagerly addressed Lomaharshana, desiring to listen further.
Tell us, as it truly is, about the land of Kimpurusha and also Harivarsha, as you have described Bharata.
Tell us, O learned one, the extent of Jambudvipa and of the other islands, their inhabitants, and their trees.
Thus questioned by the sages, he replied in detail according to their queries, relating what had been seen by the sages and esteemed in the Puranas.
O Brahmins eager to hear, listen attentively: Jambudvipa and Kimpurusha are exceedingly delightful, comparable to great joy.
In Kimpurusha, a lifespan of ten thousand years is said to prevail; there, people are born with the radiance of well-refined gold.
In the blessed land of Kimpurusha, the Plaksha tree is renowned for its honey; all the Kimpurushas drink its most excellent sap.
Indeed, men and women there are free from disease and sorrow, always joyful in mind, golden in color, and the women are remembered as apsarases.
Beyond that, after Kimpurusha, they speak of Harivarsha, where people are born with the radiance of great silver.
All the people in Harivarsha have fallen from the world of the gods, possessing many forms in every way, and all drink the auspicious juice of sugarcane.
Old age does not afflict them there, so they live long; their lifespan is said to be eleven thousand years.
I have described the middle region, named Ilavrita, where the sun does not shine, nor do the people know it.
In Ilavrita, the moon and sun, along with the stars, do not shine; the people have the radiance of lotuses, are lotus-colored, and their eyes resemble lotus petals.
There, all the people are born with the fragrance of lotuses, they eat the juice of jambū fruits, are motionless, and possess a pleasant scent.

Those who live in Ilavrita, on the southern side of Meru or north of Nishadha, have the same measure of lifespan.
There is a great, eternal jambū tree named Sudarshana, always adorned with flowers and fruits, served by siddhas and charanas.
By the name of that tree, the island of Jambū is designated; it is vast, a thousand yojanas in extent, and again a hundredfold great.

Having circled Meru, the river returns to the root of the jambū tree; those in Ilavrita always joyfully drink it.
By drinking the juice of the jambū fruit, old age does not afflict them; neither hunger nor fatigue nor any such suffering.
There, a gold called jāmbūnada, an ornament of the gods, is produced, shining like the indragopa insect.
The auspicious fruit juice of all the region's trees is that; the gold that flows out is pure and becomes an ornament of the gods.
Their urine and feces, in all eight directions, are absorbed by the earth through the favor of the Lord, and the earth consumes their dead as well.
All the rakshasas, pisachas, and yakshas are from the Himalayas; on Hemakuta are known the gandharvas together with groups of apsarases.
