Those droplets that fell to earth as the gods drank nectar—arising from them, you, O sugar mountain, protect us.
Because sugar arose from the middle of the bow of the god of love, you are composed of it, O great mountain; protect us from the ocean of worldly existence.

One should provide food according to ability, without envy, on all mountains; everywhere, salt and alkaline substances may be eaten with permission, and all mountain offerings should be given to the abode of Brahmins.
Once, in the great age, there was a king embodying righteousness, a friend of Indra, by whom thousands of demons were slain.
By whose radiance the moon, sun, and others lose their brilliance; by whom hundreds of enemies, unconquered, are subdued; and who, even as a human, takes any form at will and remains undefeated.
His wife was named Bhānumatī, the most beautiful in the three worlds, whose divine form, like Lakṣmī's, surpassed the beauty of the celestial maidens.
She was the chief queen of that king, more precious than life itself, shining among ten thousand women like Śrī herself.
Surrounded by a hundred thousand kings, he was never separated from her; once, while seated in the court, the king, filled with wonder, questioned the eminent sage Vasiṣṭha.
O revered one, by what righteousness have I attained this unsurpassed fortune, and why does this supreme radiance always reside in my body?
Once, there was a courtesan named Līlāvatī, devoted to Śiva, who, on the fourteenth day, gave to her teacher the salt mountain, along with golden trees and other items, properly and according to the prescribed rites.
At that time, there was a Śūdra goldsmith named Śauṇḍa, a servant in Līlāvatī's house, who crafted those items from gold.
The trees and celestial forms, made with great devotion and extraordinary beauty by the king, were assembled without payment, knowing it was a righteous act, and he never accepted any reward.
Those golden divine trees were illuminated by his wife; Līlāvatī served at the side of the mountain, O king.
Having performed, without deceit, service to the teacher and other duties, Līlāvatī, even in her time as a courtesan, did so with great dedication.
When her time came, through the power of her deeds, O Nārada, freed from all sins, she went to the temple of Śiva.
That goldsmith, though poor, was of great virtue; he never took payment from the courtesan, and now he has become you.
He became the lord of the seven continents, shining like ten thousand suns; by whose wife, Bhānumatī, the golden trees made by the goldsmith were properly illuminated.
From the illumination, her radiant form arose, and rulership of the world was attained; because the ritual for the salt mountain was performed at night by those two, without pride.
Therefore, in the world, unconquered status, health, and fortune are attained; so you too, according to the prescribed rites, should offer grain mountains and others tenfold.
Thus, honoring Vasiṣṭha's words, the righteous king gave hundreds of grain mountains and others, and went to Murāri's world, worshipped by the celestials.
Even a poor man, if he sees, touches, or hears of these offerings with great devotion, and gives them with pure mind, he too goes to heaven.
An evil dream is pacified by recitations performed by men with the great mountains, which dispel the fear of worldly existence; then what more should a sage of tranquil mind do here, who offers all the lordly mountains?
Vaiśampāyana: Once, for the fulfillment of all desires, Śaunaka asked, as he sat, how the rites for peace and prosperity are to be performed daily.
One who desires wealth or peace should begin a planetary sacrifice; likewise, one who seeks increase, long life, or strength, or who wishes to counteract evil—by what procedure, O Brahman, this is to be done, listen as I declare it to you.
Having reviewed all the scriptures and summarized their extensive content, I shall now explain the pacification of the planets, as enjoined by the Purāṇas and the Vedas.
On an auspicious day, as prescribed by the Brāhmaṇas, having recited the texts, and having installed the planets and their presiding deities, one should begin the fire offering.
The planetary sacrifice is declared to be threefold by those learned in the Purāṇas and Vedas: the first is the offering of ten thousand oblations, the next is one hundred thousand, and so on.
