मध्यमः पञ्चशतिकस् त्रिशतेनाधमः स्मृतः चतुर्थांशेन विष्कम्भपर्वताः स्युः समन्ततः
The medium mountain is five hundred, the inferior is said to be three hundred; the transverse mountains should be made on all sides with a fourth part.
पूर्वेण वज्रगोमेदैर् दक्षिणेनेन्द्रनीलकैः पद्मरागयुतः कार्यो विद्वद्भिर्गन्धमादनः
Gandhamādana should be fashioned by the learned with vajra and gomed gems on the east, with indranīla stones on the south, and adorned with padmarāga.
वैदूर्यविद्रुमैः पश्चात् सम्मिश्रो विमलाचलः पद्मरागैः ससौवर्णैर् उत्तरेण च विन्यसेत्
Vimalācala should be constructed at the west with a mixture of vaidūrya and vidruma, and at the north, it should be set with padmarāga and gold.
धान्यपर्वतवत्सर्वम् अत्रापि परिकल्पयेत् तद्वदावाहनं कुर्याद् वृक्षान्देवांश्च काञ्चनान्
Everything here also should be arranged just like the grain-mountains; in the same way, one should perform the invocation and make the trees and deities of gold.
पूजयेत्पुष्पगन्धाद्यैः प्रभाते च विमत्सरः पूर्ववद्गुरुऋत्विग्भ्य इमान्मन्त्रानुदीरयेत्
One should worship with flowers, fragrances, and the like, in the morning, free from envy; as before, the teacher should recite these mantras to the priests.
यदा देवगणाः सर्वे सर्वरत्नेष्ववस्थिताः त्वं च रत्नमयो नित्यं नमस्ते ऽस्तु सदाचल
When all the hosts of gods are established in all the jewels, and you too are always made of jewels, obeisance to you, eternal mountain.
यस्माद्रत्नप्रदानेन तुष्टिं प्रकुरुते हरिः सदा रत्नप्रदानेन तस्मान्नः पाहि पर्वत
Because Hari is always pleased by the giving of jewels, therefore, O mountain, protect us always by the giving of jewels.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु दद्याद्रत्नमयं गिरिम् स याति विष्णुसालोक्यम् अमरेश्वरपूजितः
Whoever gives a jewel-made mountain according to this method attains the world of Viṣṇu, worshipped by the lord of immortals.
यावत्कल्पशतं साग्रं वसेच्चेह नराधिप रूपारोग्यगुणोपेतः सप्तद्वीपाधिपो भवेत्
For as long as a hundred kalpas with a fraction, the king dwells here, endowed with beauty, health, and virtues, and becomes lord of the seven continents.
ब्रह्महत्यादिकं किंचिद् यदत्रामुत्र वा कृतम् तत्सर्वं नाशमायाति गिरिर्वज्रहतो यथा
Whatever sin, such as the killing of a brāhmaṇa, is committed here or elsewhere, all that is destroyed, just as a mountain struck by a thunderbolt.
अतः परं प्रवक्ष्यामि रौप्याचलमनुत्तमम् यत्प्रदानान्नरो याति सोमलोकमनुत्तमम्
Now I shall declare the excellent silver mountain, by the giving of which a man attains the unsurpassed world of Soma.
दशभिः पलसाहस्रैर् उत्तमो रजताचलः पञ्चभिर्मध्यमः प्रोक्तस् तदर्धेनाधमः स्मृतः
The best silver mountain is of ten thousand palas, the medium is said to be of five, and the inferior is known as half of that.
अशक्तो विंशतेरूर्ध्वं कारयेच्छक्तितस्तदा विष्कम्भपर्वतांस्तद्वत् तुरीयांशेन कल्पयेत्
If unable to make it above twenty, then one should make it according to ability; likewise, the transverse mountains should be made with a fourth part.
पूर्ववद्राजतान्कुर्वन् मन्दरादीन्विधानतः कलधौतमयांस्तद्वल् लोकेशानर्चयेद्बुधः
As before, making the silver ones, and Mandara and the others according to rule, one should worship the lords of the world with vessels of refined silver.
ब्रह्मविष्ण्वर्कवान्कार्यो नितम्बो ऽत्र हिरण्मयः राजतं स्याद्यदन्येषां सर्वं तदिह काञ्चनम्
Brahmā, Viṣṇu, and Arka should be made, and the base here of gold; all the rest for the others should be of silver, and all that here of gold.
शेषं तु पूर्ववत्कुर्याद् धोमजागरणादिकम् दद्यात्ततः प्रभाते तु गुरवे रौप्यपर्वतम्
The rest should be done as before, including the homa and the vigil; then in the morning, one should give the silver mountain to the teacher.
विष्कम्भशैलानृत्विग्भ्यः पूज्यवस्त्रविभूषणैः इमं मन्त्रं पठन्दद्याद् दर्भपाणिर्विमत्सरः
The transverse mountains should be given to the priests, with worship, garments, and ornaments; reciting this mantra, one should give, holding darbha grass, free from envy.
पितॄणां वल्लभो यस्माद् धरीन्द्राणां शिवस्य च पाहि राजत तस्मात्त्वं शोकसंसारसागरात्
Because you are dear to the ancestors, the lords of the earth, and to Śiva, protect us, O silver one, from the ocean of sorrow and transmigration.
इत्थं निवेद्य यो दद्याद् रजताचलमुत्तमम् गवामयुतदानस्य फलं प्राप्नोति मानवः
Thus, one who makes this offering of the excellent mountain of silver, after declaring it in this manner, attains the reward of giving ten thousand cows.
सोमलोके स गन्धर्वैः किंनराप्सरसां गणैः पूज्यमानो वसेद्विद्वान् यावदाभूतसंप्लवम्
In the realm of Soma, the wise person dwells, honored by hosts of Gandharvas, Kinnaras, and Apsaras, until the dissolution of creation.
अथातः सम्प्रवक्ष्यामि शर्कराशैलमुत्तमम् यस्य प्रदानाद्विष्ण्वर्करुद्रास्तुष्यन्ति सर्वदा
Now, I shall expound the excellent mountain of sugar; by whose donation, Vishnu, Arka, and Rudra are always pleased.
अष्टाभिः शर्कराभारैर् उत्तमः स्यान्महाचलः चतुर्भिर्मध्यमः प्रोक्तो भाराभ्यामधमः स्मृतः
With eight loads of sugar, the mountain is considered supreme; with four, it is called middling; with two loads, it is regarded as inferior.
भारेण वार्धभारेण कुर्याद्यः स्वल्पवित्तवान् विष्कम्भपर्वतान्कुर्यात् तुरीयांशेन मानवः
One of limited wealth may make a mountain with a half-load or a quarter-load; a person should construct mountains with a fourth portion.
धान्यपर्वतवत्सर्वम् आसाद्यामरसंयुतम् मेरोरुपरि तद्वच्च स्थाप्यं हेमतरुत्रयम्
Everything, as with the grain mountain, should be prepared together with nectar; likewise, three golden trees should be placed atop Meru.
मन्दारः पारिजातश्च तृतीयः कल्पपादपः एतद्वृक्षत्रयं मूर्ध्नि सर्वेष्वपि नियोजयेत्
Mandara, Parijata, and the third, the wish-fulfilling tree—this trio of trees should be established at the summit of all mountains.
हरिचन्दनसंतानौ पूर्वपश्चिमभागयोः निवेश्यौ सर्वशैलेषु विशेषाच्छर्कराचले
Two sandalwood trees, one on the east and one on the west side, should be placed on every mountain, especially on the sugar mountain.
मन्दरे कामदेवस्तु प्रत्यग्वक्त्रः सदा भवेत् गन्धमादनशृङ्गे तु धनदः स्यादुदङ्मुखः
On Mandara, the deity of desire should always face west; on the peak of Gandhamadana, the god of wealth should face north.
प्राङ्मुखो वेदमूर्तिस्तु हंसः स्याद्विपुलाचले हैमी सुपार्श्वे सुरभिर् दक्षिणाभिमुखी भवेत्
On the great mountain, the form of the Veda, the swan, should face east; on the golden side, Surabhi should face south.
धान्यपर्वतवत्सर्वम् आवाहनविधानकम् कृत्वा तु गुरवे दद्यान् मध्यमं पर्वतोत्तमम् ऋत्विग्भ्यश् चतुरः शैलान् इमान्मन्त्रानुदीरयन्
As with the grain mountain, all the rites of invocation should be performed; then, one should give the middle mountain to the teacher, and the four mountains to the priests, reciting the mantras.
सौभाग्यामृतसारो ऽयं पर्वतः शर्करायुतः तस्मादानन्दकारी त्वं भव शैलेन्द्र सर्वदा
This mountain, filled with sugar, is the essence of the nectar of fortune; therefore, O lord of mountains, always be the bringer of joy.
