पञ्चगव्यं च संप्राश्य स्वपेद्भूमौ विमत्सरः ततः प्रभाते संजाते भक्त्या सम्पूजयेद्द्विजान्
After consuming pañcagavya, one should sleep on the ground without envy; then, when morning arrives, one should devoutly honor the twice-born.
अनेन विधिना दद्यान् मासि मासि सदा नरः वाससा वृषभं हैमं तद्वद्गां काञ्चनोद्भवाम्
A man should give in this manner every month: a garment, a golden bull, and likewise a cow made of gold.
संवत्सरान्ते शयनम् इक्षुदण्डगुडान्वितम् सोपधानकविश्रामं भाजनासनसंयुतम्
At the end of the year, a bed furnished with a sugarcane staff and jaggery, complete with bedding for rest, and accompanied by vessels and a seat.
ताम्रपात्रे तिलप्रस्थं सौवर्णं वृषभं तथा दद्याद्वेदविदे सर्वं विश्वात्मा प्रीयतामिति
He should give to a knower of the Veda a prastha of sesame seeds in a copper vessel, and likewise a golden bull, saying, 'May the Soul of the Universe be pleased by all this.'
अनेन विधिना विद्वान् कुर्याद्यः शुभसप्तमीम् तस्य श्रीर्विपुला कीर्तिर् भवेज्जन्मनि जन्मनि
Whoever, learned, performs the auspicious Saptamī in this manner, for him great prosperity and fame arise in every birth.
अप्सरोगणगन्धर्वैः पूज्यमानः सुरालये वसेद्गणाधिपो भूत्वा यावदाभूतसंप्लवम् कल्पादाववतीर्णस्तु सप्तद्वीपाधिपो भवेत्
Honored by hosts of Apsarases and Gandharvas, he dwells in the abode of the gods as a lord of hosts until the cosmic dissolution; at the beginning of the next cycle, he becomes ruler of the seven islands.
ब्रह्महत्यासहस्रस्य भ्रूणहत्याशतस्य च नाशायालमियं पुण्या पठ्यते शुभसप्तमी
This auspicious Saptamī is recited as sufficient for the destruction of a thousand Brahmin-murders and a hundred embryo-murders.
इमां पठेद्यः शृणुयान्मुहूर्तं पश्येत्प्रसङ्गादपि दीयमानम् सो ऽप्यत्र सर्वाघविमुक्तदेहः प्राप्नोति विद्याधरनायकत्वम्
Whoever reads, hears, or even sees this being given for a moment, he too, freed from all sins in this very body, attains lordship among the Vidyādharas.
यावत्समाः सप्त नरः करोति यः सप्तमीं सप्तविधानयुक्ताम् स सप्तलोकाधिपतिः क्रमेण भूत्वा पदं याति परं मुरारेः
As long as a man performs the Saptamī, endowed with the sevenfold observance, for seven years, he becomes lord of the seven worlds in succession and attains the supreme abode of Murāri.
किम् अभीष्टवियोगशोकसंघादलम् उद्धर्तुमुपोषणं व्रतं वा विभवोद्भवकारि भूतले ऽस्मिन् भवभीतेरपि सूदनं च पुंसः
What vow or fast on earth, O destroyer of sorrow, is able to lift a man from the mass of grief caused by separation from what is dear, or by fear of existence, and also brings forth prosperity?
परिपृष्टमिदं जगत्प्रियं ते विबुधानामपि दुर्लभं महत्त्वात् तव भक्तिमतस्तथापि वक्ष्ये व्रतमिन्द्रासुरमानवेषु गुह्यम्
This, which you have asked, is dear to the world and difficult even for the gods to obtain because of its greatness; yet, because of your devotion, I will declare the vow, secret among gods, asuras, and men.
पुण्यमाश्वयुजे मासि विशोकद्वादशीव्रतम् दशम्यां लघुभुग्विद्वान् आरभेन्नियमेन तु
The auspicious Viśoka Dvādaśī vow, meritorious in the month of Āśvayuja, should be begun by the learned on the tenth day, eating lightly and with proper observance.
उदङ्मुखः प्राङ्मुखो वा दन्तधावनपूर्वकम् एकादश्यां निराहारः समभ्यर्च्य तु केशवम् श्रियं वाभ्यर्च्य विधिवद् भोक्ष्यामि त्वपरे ऽहनि
Facing north or east, after brushing the teeth, on the eleventh day, one should fast, having duly worshipped Keśava, or Śrī, saying, 'I will eat properly on the following day.'
एवं नियमकृत्सुप्त्वा प्रातरुत्थाय मानवः स्नानं सर्वौषधैः कुर्यात् पञ्चगव्यजलेन तु शुक्लमाल्याम्बरधरः पूजयेच्छ्रीशमुत्पलैः
Thus, having observed the discipline and slept, a man should rise at dawn, bathe with all herbs and with pañcagavya water, and, wearing white garlands and garments, worship Śrī with lotuses.
विशोकाय नमः पादौ जङ्घे च वरदाय वै श्रीशाय जानुनी तद्वद् ऊरू च जलशायिने
Salutation to the remover of sorrow at the feet, and to the bestower of boons at the shanks; to Śrī at the knees, and likewise to the one who lies on the waters at the thighs.
कन्दर्पाय नमो गुह्यं माधवाय नमः कटिम् दामोदरायेत्युदरं पार्श्वे च विपुलाय वै
Salutation to Kandarpa at the secret part, to Mādhava at the waist, and to Dāmodara at the belly, and likewise to the Vast One at the sides.
नाभिं च पद्मनाभाय हृदयं मन्मथाय वै श्रीधराय विभोर्वक्षः करौ मधुजिते नमः
To Padmanabha, the lotus-naveled, the navel; to Manmatha, the heart; to Sridhara, the chest of the Lord; to Madhujit, the hands—obeisance.
चक्रिणे वामबाहुं च दक्षिणं गदिने नमः वैकुण्ठाय नमः कण्ठम् आस्यं यज्ञमुखाय वै
To the wielder of the discus, the left arm; to the wielder of the mace, the right arm—obeisance; to Vaikuntha, the throat; to Yajnamukha, the mouth—obeisance.
नासामशोकनिधये वासुदेवाय चाक्षिणी ललाटं वामनायेति हरये च पुनर्भ्रुवौ
To the one who is the abode of freedom from sorrow, the nose; to Vasudeva, the eyes; to Vamana, the forehead; and again to Hari, the eyebrows—obeisance.
अलकान्माधवायेति किरीटं विश्वरूपिणे नमः सर्वात्मने तद्वच् छिर इत्यभिपूजयेत्
To Madhava, the hair; to the one of universal form, the crown—obeisance; likewise to the soul of all, the head—thus should one worship.
एवं सम्पूज्य गोविन्दं फलमाल्यानुलेपनैः ततस्तु मण्डलं कृत्वा स्थण्डिलं कारयेन्मुदा
Having thus worshipped Govinda with fruits, garlands, and ointments, then, with joy, one should prepare a mandala and make a sthaṇḍila.
चतुरस्रं समन्ताच्च रत्निमात्रमुदक्प्लवम् श्लक्ष्णं हृद्यं च परितो वप्रत्रयसमावृतम्
It should be square on all sides, measuring one ratni, smooth and pleasing, surrounded on all sides by three embankments.
अङ्गुलेनोच्छ्रिता वप्रास् तद्विस्तारस्तु द्व्यङ्गुलः स्थण्डिलस्योपरिष्टाच्च भित्तिरष्टाङ्गुला भवेत्
The embankments should be raised to the height of a finger, and their width should be two fingers; above the sthaṇḍila, the wall should be eight fingers high.
नदीवालुकया शूर्पे लक्ष्म्याः प्रतिकृतिं न्यसेत् स्थण्डिले शूर्पमारोप्य लक्ष्मीमित्यर्चयेद्बुधः
With river sand, one should fashion an image of Lakshmi with a winnowing basket; placing the basket on the sthaṇḍila, the wise should worship Lakshmi.
नमो देव्यै नमः शान्त्यै नमो लक्ष्म्यै नमः श्रियै नमः पुष्ट्यै नमस्तुष्ट्यै वृष्ट्यै हृष्ट्यै नमो नमः
Obeisance to the goddess, to Peace, to Lakshmi, to Fortune, to Nourishment, to Satisfaction, to Rain, to Joy—repeated obeisance.
विशोका दुःखनाशाय विशोका वरदास्तु मे विशोका चास्तु सम्पत्त्यै विशोका सर्वसिद्धये
O Viśokā, for the removal of sorrow, may you grant boons to me; may Viśokā be for prosperity, may Viśokā be for all attainments.
ततः शुक्लाम्बरैः शूर्पं वेष्ट्य सम्पूजयेत्फलैः वस्त्रैर्नानाविधैस्तद्वत् सुवर्णकमलेन च
Then, wrapping the basket in white cloths, one should worship it with fruits and various kinds of garments, as well as with a golden lotus.
रजनीषु च सर्वासु पिबेद्दर्भोदकं बुधः ततस्तु गीतनृत्यादि कारयेत्सकलां निशाम्
During all the nights, the wise should drink water with darbha grass; then, throughout the night, arrange for singing, dancing, and the like.
यामत्रये व्यतीते तु सुप्त्वाप्युत्थाय मानवः अभिगम्य च विप्राणां मिथुनानि तदार्चयेत्
When three watches of the night have passed, after sleeping and rising, a person should approach and worship the couples of Brahmins.
शक्तितस् त्रीणि चैकं वा वस्त्रमाल्यानुलेपनैः शयनस्थानि पूज्यानि नमो ऽस्तु जलशायिने
According to ability, three or one, with garments, garlands, and ointments, those lying on beds should be worshipped—obeisance to the one who lies on the waters.
