When, on the bright seventh lunar day, the day belongs to the Sun, that is called Kalyāṇinī and is also known as Vijayā.
On that day, one should bathe in the morning with cow's milk; then, wearing white garments, prepare a lotus with unbroken rice grains.
Facing east, one should place an eight-petaled lotus with a circular center, and arrange the Lord of the gods with flowers and unbroken rice on each petal in sequence.
On the eastern petal, 'To Tapanāya'; on the southeast, 'To Mārtaṇḍa'; on the south, 'To Divākara'; on the southwest, 'To Vidhātri'.
On the west, 'To Varuṇa'; on the northwest, 'To Bhāskara'; on the north, 'To Vikartana'; and on the eighth petal, 'To Ravi'.
At the beginning, end, and center, one should offer salutations to the Supreme Self, worshipping with these mantras, concluding with prostrations and offerings of light.
With white garments, fruits, edibles, incense, garlands, and ointments, one should devoutly worship on the altar, offering jaggery and salt as well.
Then, with the Vyāhṛti mantra, one should respectfully dismiss the foremost Brāhmaṇas, and according to ability, worship with devotion using jaggery, milk, ghee, and the like; offer a vessel of sesame and gold to a Brāhmaṇa.
Thus, having observed the discipline and slept, rising in the morning, having bathed and recited prayers, together with the Brāhmaṇas, one should partake of rice cooked with milk and ghee.
After eating, to a knower of the Veda who does not observe the Biḍāla vow, one should offer a vessel of ghee with a golden ornament and a water pot.
May the blessed Lord, the Supreme Self, the Sun, be pleased here; by this procedure, one should observe the vow every month.
Then, in the thirteenth month, one should give cows—thirteen in number—adorned with garments and ornaments, with golden faces and yielding milk.
Or, if lacking wealth but free from envy, one may give even a single cow; one should not act deceitfully with wealth, for delusion leads to downfall.
Whoever performs the Kalyāṇa Saptamī with this procedure becomes free from all sins, is honored in the world of the Sun, and attains endless life, health, and prosperity here.
The Kalyāṇa Saptamī always removes all sins, is ever worshipped by all deities, dispels all evils, and is ever auspicious.
Whoever hears or recites this Kalyāṇa Saptamī, which bestows endless rewards, is freed from all sins.
O foremost of sages, I shall now describe the Viśoka Saptamī, by observing which a man never experiences sorrow in this world.
In the month of Māgha, on the sixth day of the bright fortnight, after bathing with black sesame seeds, having fasted, having brushed the teeth, and having eaten rice with pulses, one should undertake the vow of fasting and remain celibate at night.
Then, rising at dawn, having bathed and recited prayers, purified, one should worship the Sun with a golden lotus, with red oleander flowers, and with a pair of red garments, saying, 'To the Sun!'
Just as, O Sun, you always render the world free from sorrow, so may I too be free from sorrow; may I have devotion to you in every birth.
Thus, having worshipped with devotion on the sixth day, one should also honor the twice-born; after sleeping, sipping cow's urine, and rising, one should perform the daily rites.
Having honored the Brahmins with food accompanied by a vessel of jaggery, one should offer them a pair of garments and the lotus.
On the seventh day, eating food without oil and salt, observing silence, one who desires prosperity should then listen to the Purāṇas.
By performing all this procedure in both fortnights, until the seventh day of the bright fortnight of Māgha returns again,
At the conclusion of the vow, one should give a pot adorned with a golden lotus, a bed with its furnishings, and a tawny, milk-giving cow.
Whoever observes the Viśoka Saptamī in this manner, free from miserliness regarding wealth, attains the highest state.
For as many as a hundred million and one thousand births, he does not encounter sorrow, remaining free from disease and misfortune.
Whatever desire one prays for, that he obtains in abundance; but he who performs it without desire attains the Supreme Brahman.
Whoever recites or hears about this Saptamī called Viśoka also attains the world of Indra and is never born into suffering.
I shall now describe another, called the Phala Saptamī; by observing it, a man becomes free from sin and attains heaven.
