भक्त्या यस्तु पुनः कुर्याद् एवमङ्गारकाष्टकम् चतुरो वाथ वा तस्य यत्पुण्यं तद्वदामि ते
But whoever again performs this Angaraka Ashtaka with devotion, whether four times or more, I shall tell you the merit that accrues to him.
रूपसौभाग्यसम्पन्नः पुनर्जन्मनि जन्मनि विष्णौ वाथ शिवे भक्तः सप्तद्वीपाधिपो भवेत्
He becomes endowed with beauty, good fortune, and wealth in birth after birth, and is a devotee of Vishnu or Shiva, and may become lord of the seven islands.
सप्त कल्पसहस्राणि रुद्रलोके महीयते तस्मात्त्वमपि दैत्येन्द्र व्रतमेतत्समाचर
For seven thousand aeons he is honored in Rudra's realm; therefore, O lord of the Daityas, you too should observe this vow.
इत्येवमुक्त्वा भृगुनन्दनो ऽपि जगाम दैत्यश्च चकार सर्वम् त्वं चापि राजन्कुरु सर्वमेतद् यतो ऽक्षयं वेदविदो वदन्ति
Having thus spoken, the son of Bhrigu departed, and the Daitya performed everything; you too, O king, should do all this, for the knowers of the Veda declare it to be inexhaustible.
तथेति सम्पूज्य स पिप्पलादं वाक्यं चकाराद्भुतवीर्यकर्मा शृणोति यश्चैनमनन्यचेतास् तस्यापि सिद्धिं भगवान्विधत्ते
Having said 'so be it,' he worshipped Pippalada and carried out his words, performing deeds of wondrous power; and whoever listens to this with undistracted mind, for him too the Blessed Lord grants success.
अथातः शृणु भूपाल प्रतिशुक्रं प्रशान्तये यात्रारम्भे ऽवसाने च तथा शुक्रोदये त्विह
Now then, O king, listen concerning the worship of Shukra for pacification, to be performed at the beginning and end of a journey, and also at the rising of Shukra here.
राजते वाथ सौवर्णे कांस्यपात्रे ऽथवा पुनः शुक्लपुष्पाम्बरयुते सिततण्डुलपूरिते
In a vessel of silver, gold, or bronze, filled with white flowers and cloth, and with white rice, one should prepare it.
विधाय राजतं शुक्रं शुचिमुक्ताफलान्वितम् मन्त्रेणानेन तत्सर्वं सामगाय निवेदयेत्
Having arranged pure silver for Shukra, adorned with pearls, with this mantra all that should be offered to the singer of Sama.
नमस्ते सर्वलोकेश नमस्ते भृगुनन्दन कवे सर्वार्थसिद्ध्यर्थं गृहाणार्घ्यं नमो ऽस्तु ते
Salutations to you, Lord of all worlds; salutations to you, son of Bhrigu, O sage; for the accomplishment of all aims, accept this arghya; obeisance to you.
एवमस्योदये कुर्वन् यात्रादिषु च भारत सर्वान्कामानवाप्नोति विष्णुलोके महीयते
By performing thus at his rising, and at the start of journeys, O Bharata, one obtains all desires and is honored in the world of Vishnu.
यावच्छुक्रस्य न हृता पूजा सा माल्यकैः शुभैः वटकैः पूरिकाभिश्च गोधूमैश्चणकैरपि तावदन्नं न चाश्नीयात् त्रिभिः कामार्थसिद्धये
Until Shukra's worship is completed with auspicious garlands, cakes, wheat, and chickpeas, one should not eat food for the fulfillment of three desires.
तद्वद्वाचस्पतेः पूजां प्रवक्ष्यामि युधिष्ठिर सुवर्णपात्रे सौवर्णम् अमरेशपुरोहितम्
In the same way, I shall explain the worship of Vachaspati, O Yudhishthira: in a golden vessel, place gold representing the preceptor of the gods.
पीतपुष्पाम्बरयुतं कृत्वा स्नात्वाथ सर्षपैः पलाशाश्वत्थयोगेन पञ्चगव्यजलेन च
Adorned with yellow flowers and cloth, after bathing with mustard, with the union of palasha and asvattha, and with the five products of the cow.
पीताङ्गरागवसनो घृतहोमं तु कारयेत् प्रणम्य च गवा सार्धं ब्राह्मणाय निवेदयेत्
Clad in yellow unguent and garment, one should perform a ghee offering; after bowing, present it together with a cow to a Brahmin.
नमस्ते ऽङ्गिरसां नाथ वाक्पते च बृहस्पते क्रूरग्रहैः पीडितानाम् अमृताय नमो नमः
Salutations to you, Lord of the Angirases, master of speech, O Brihaspati; repeated salutations to you, who are nectar for those afflicted by cruel planets.
संक्रान्तावस्य कौन्तेय यात्रास्वभ्युदयेषु च कुर्वन्बृहस्पतेः पूजां सर्वान्कामान्समश्नुते
By performing the worship of Brihaspati at his transit, O son of Kunti, and at the beginning of journeys and auspicious occasions, one attains all desires.
भगवन् भवसंसारसागरोत्तारकारक किंचिद्व्रतं समाचक्ष्व स्वर्गारोग्यसुखप्रदम्
O Blessed One, deliverer from the ocean of worldly existence, declare to me some vow that bestows heaven, health, and happiness.
सौरं धर्मं प्रवक्ष्यामि नाम्ना कल्याणसप्तमीम् विशोकसप्तमीं तद्वत् फलाढ्यां पापनाशिनीम्
I shall explain the solar observance called the Auspicious Seventh, the Saptami that removes sorrow, bestows abundant fruit, and destroys sin.
शर्करासप्तमीं पुण्यां तथा कमलसप्तमीम् मन्दारसप्तमीं तद्वच् छुभदां शुभसप्तमीम्
The meritorious Śarkarā Saptamī, likewise the Kamala Saptamī, the Mandāra Saptamī, and in the same way the auspicious Śubha Saptamī, all bestow good fortune.
सर्वानन्तफलाः प्रोक्ताः सर्वा देवर्षिपूजिताः विधानमासां वक्ष्यामि यथावदनुपूर्वशः
All these are said to yield endless results and are worshipped by all gods and sages; I shall explain their procedure in proper order.
यदा तु शुक्लसप्तम्याम् आदित्यस्य दिनं भवेत् सा तु कल्याणिनी नाम विजया च निगद्यते
When, on the bright seventh lunar day, the day belongs to the Sun, that is called Kalyāṇinī and is also known as Vijayā.
प्रातर्गव्येन पयसा स्नानमस्यां समाचरेत् ततः शुक्लाम्बरः पद्मम् अक्षताभिः प्रकल्पयेत्
On that day, one should bathe in the morning with cow's milk; then, wearing white garments, prepare a lotus with unbroken rice grains.
प्राङ्मुखो ऽष्टदलं मध्ये तद्वद्वृत्तां च कर्णिकाम् पुष्पाक्षताभिर्देवेशं विन्यसेत्सर्वतः क्रमात्
Facing east, one should place an eight-petaled lotus with a circular center, and arrange the Lord of the gods with flowers and unbroken rice on each petal in sequence.
पूर्वेण तपनायेति मार्तण्डायेति चानले याम्ये दिवाकरायेति विधात्र इति नैरृते
On the eastern petal, 'To Tapanāya'; on the southeast, 'To Mārtaṇḍa'; on the south, 'To Divākara'; on the southwest, 'To Vidhātri'.
पश्चिमे वरुणायेति भास्करायेति चानिले सौम्ये विकर्तनायेति रवये चाष्टमे दले
On the west, 'To Varuṇa'; on the northwest, 'To Bhāskara'; on the north, 'To Vikartana'; and on the eighth petal, 'To Ravi'.
आदावन्ते च मध्ये च नमो ऽस्तु परमात्मने मन्त्रैरेभिः समभ्यर्च्य नमस्कारान्तदीपितैः
At the beginning, end, and center, one should offer salutations to the Supreme Self, worshipping with these mantras, concluding with prostrations and offerings of light.
शुक्लवस्त्रैः फलैर्भक्ष्यैर् धूपमाल्यानुलेपनैः स्थण्डिले पूजयेद्भक्त्या गुडेन लवणेन च
With white garments, fruits, edibles, incense, garlands, and ointments, one should devoutly worship on the altar, offering jaggery and salt as well.
ततो व्याहृतिमन्त्रेण विसृजेद्द्विजपुंगवान् शक्तितः पूजयेद्भक्त्या गुडक्षीरघृतादिभिः तिलपात्रं हिरण्यं च ब्राह्मणाय निवेदयेत्
Then, with the Vyāhṛti mantra, one should respectfully dismiss the foremost Brāhmaṇas, and according to ability, worship with devotion using jaggery, milk, ghee, and the like; offer a vessel of sesame and gold to a Brāhmaṇa.
एवं नियमकृत्सुप्त्वा प्रातरुत्थाय मानवः कृतस्नानजपो विप्रैः सहैव घृतपायसम्
Thus, having observed the discipline and slept, rising in the morning, having bathed and recited prayers, together with the Brāhmaṇas, one should partake of rice cooked with milk and ghee.
भुक्त्वा च वेदविदुषे बिडालव्रतवर्जिते घृतपात्रं सकनकं सोदकुम्भं निवेदयेत्
After eating, to a knower of the Veda who does not observe the Biḍāla vow, one should offer a vessel of ghee with a golden ornament and a water pot.
