यद्यदिच्छति विप्रेन्द्रस् तत्तत्कुर्याद्विलासिनी सर्वभावेन चात्मानम् अर्पयेत्स्मितभाषिणी
Whatever the foremost Brahmin wishes, the woman should do; with all her being, smiling and speaking sweetly, she should dedicate herself.
एवमादित्यवारेण सर्वमेतत्समाचरेत् तण्डुलप्रस्थदानं च यावन्मासास्त्रयोदश
In this way, on Sundays, she should perform all these rites, and give a prastha of rice, for thirteen months.
ततस्त्रयोदशे मासि सम्प्राप्ते तस्य भामिनी विप्रस्योपस्करैर्युक्तां शय्यां दद्याद्विलक्षणाम्
Then, when the thirteenth month arrives, the woman should give the Brahmin a special bed, furnished with all accessories.
सोपधानकविश्रामां सास्तरावरणां शुभाम् प्रदीपोपानहच्छत्त्रपादुकासनसंयुताम्
It should have a pillow and be comfortable, covered with a fine sheet, and equipped with a lamp, shoes, parasol, and seat.
सपत्नीकमलंकृत्य हेमसूत्राङ्गुलीयकैः सूक्ष्मवस्त्रैः सकटकैर् धूपमाल्यानुलेपनैः
She should decorate it together with her co-wife, with gold rings, fine garments, bracelets, incense, garlands, and ointments.
कामदेवं सपत्नीकं गुडकुम्भोपरि स्थितम् ताम्रपात्रासनगतं हैमनेत्रपटावृतम्
She should place Kāma, together with his consort, upon a jar of jaggery, seated on a copper vessel, covered with a cloth adorned with gold eyes.
सकांस्यभाजनोपेतम् इक्षुदण्डसमन्वितम् दद्यादेतेन मन्त्रेण तथैकां गां पयस्विनीम्
Furnished with bronze vessels and a sugarcane staff, she should also give, with this mantra, a single milch cow.
यथान्तरं न पश्यामि कामकेशवयोः सदा तथैव सर्वकामाप्तिर् अस्तु विष्णो सदा मम
Just as I never see any difference between Kāma and Keśava, so may I always attain all desires from Viṣṇu.
यथा न कमला देहात् प्रयाति तव केशव तथा ममापि देवेश शरीरे स्वे कुरु प्रभो
Just as the lotus does not leave your body, O Keśava, in the same way, O Lord of the gods, let my body also remain with me, O Master.
तथा च काञ्चनं देवं प्रतिगृह्णन्द्विजोत्तमः क इदं कस्मा अदादिति वैदिकं मन्त्रमीरयेत्
Then, as the best of twice-born receives the golden image, he should recite the Vedic mantra: 'Who is this? For whom is this given?'
ततः प्रदक्षिणीकृत्य विसर्ज्य द्विजपुंगवम् शय्यासनादिकं सर्वं ब्राह्मणस्य गृहं नयेत्
After circumambulating and respectfully dismissing the foremost of the twice-born, all the bedding, seats, and such should be brought to the brāhmaṇa’s house.
ततः प्रभृति यो विप्रो रत्यर्थं गृहमागतः स मान्यः सूर्यवारे च स मन्तव्यो भवेत्तदा
From then on, any brāhmaṇa who comes to the house for pleasure should be honored, especially on Sundays, and regarded accordingly at that time.
एवं त्रयोदशं यावन् मासमेवं द्विजोत्तमान् तर्पयेत यथाकामं प्रोषिते ऽन्यं समाचरेत्
In this way, for thirteen months, one should satisfy the best of twice-born as desired; if he is away, another may be engaged.
तदनुज्ञया रूपवान्यो यावदभ्यागतो भवेत् आत्मनो ऽपि यथाविघ्नं गर्भभूतिकरं प्रियम्
With his permission, another handsome one may be accepted as long as he is present, and for oneself, as is fitting and without hindrance, that which brings dear offspring.
दैवं वा मानुषं वा स्याद् अनुरागेण वा ततः साचारानष्टपञ्चाशद् यथाशक्त्या समाचरेत्
Whether by divine will, human means, or out of affection, one should then perform the fifty-eight prescribed acts according to one’s ability, with proper conduct.
एतद्धि कथितं सम्यग् भवतीनां विशेषतः अधर्मो ऽयं ततो न स्याद् वेश्यानामिह सर्वदा
This has been properly explained to you all in detail; therefore, this is not unrighteousness for courtesans here at any time.
पुरुहूतेन यत्प्रोक्तं दानवीषु पुरा मया तदिदं साम्प्रतं सर्वं भवतीष्वपि युज्यते
What was formerly spoken by me to the Dānavī women, as declared by Indra, now applies entirely to you as well.
सर्वपापप्रशमनम् अनन्तफलदायकम् कल्याणीनां च कथितं तत्कुरुध्वं वराननाः
This has been prescribed for auspicious women as the remover of all sins and the giver of endless rewards; do this, O beautiful-faced ones.
करोति याशेषमखण्डमेतत् कल्याणिनी माधवलोकसंस्था सा पूजिता देवगणैर् अशेषैर् आनन्दकृत्स्थानम् उपैति विष्णोः
A virtuous woman who performs this entire, unbroken rite, established in the world of Mādhava, is worshipped by all the hosts of gods and attains a place of bliss with Viṣṇu.
तपोधनः सो ऽप्यभिधाय चैवं तदा च तासां व्रतमङ्गनानाम् स्वस्थानमेष्यत्यनु ताः समस्तं व्रतं करिष्यन्ति च देवयानैः
The ascetic, having thus spoken, then returns to his own abode, and those women will all perform the vow along with their companions.
मोहाद्वापि मदाद्वापि यः परस्त्रीं समाश्रयेत् तस्यापि निष्कृतिं देव वद सर्वकृपाकर
Whether out of delusion or pride, whoever approaches another’s wife—O Lord, source of all compassion—tell me the expiation for him.
भगवन्पुरुषस्येह स्त्रियाश्च विरहादिकम् शोकव्याधिभयं दुःखं न भवेद्येन तद्वद
O Lord, tell me what should be done so that, for a man or a woman here, there is no grief, disease, fear, or suffering from separation.
श्रावणस्य द्वितीयायां कृष्णायां मधुसूदनः क्षीरार्णवे सपत्नीकः सदा वसति केशवः
On the dark fortnight’s second day of Śrāvaṇa, O Madhusūdana, Keśava always resides in the ocean of milk with his consort.
तस्यां सम्पूज्य गोविन्दं सर्वान्कामान्समश्नुते गोभूहिरण्यदानादि सप्तकल्पशतानुगम्
By worshipping Govinda on that day, one attains all desires, along with the merit of giving cows, land, and gold for seven hundred aeons.
अशून्यशयनं नाम द्वितीया संप्रकीर्तिता तस्यां सम्पूजयेद्विष्णुम् एभिर्मन्त्रैर्विधानतः
This second day is called Aśūnyaśayana; on that day, Viṣṇu should be worshipped properly with these mantras.
श्रीवत्सधारिञ्छ्रीकान्त श्रीधामञ्छ्रीपते ऽव्यय गार्हस्थ्यं मा प्रणाशं मे यातु धर्मार्थकामदम्
O bearer of Śrīvatsa, beloved of Lakṣmī, holder of fortune, imperishable Lord, do not let my household life perish; may it grant me righteousness, wealth, and desire.
अग्नयो मा प्रणश्यन्तु देवताः पुरुषोत्तम पितरो मा प्रणश्यन्तु मास्तु दाम्पत्यभेदनम्
O Supreme Person, may the fires not be extinguished, may the deities not perish, may the ancestors not be lost, and may there be no discord between husband and wife.
लक्ष्म्या वियुज्यते देव न कदाचिद्यथा भवान् तथा कलत्रसम्बन्धो देव मा मे वियुज्यताम्
Just as you, O Lord, are never separated from Lakshmi, so too, O God, may the bond with my wife never be severed.
लक्ष्म्या न शून्यो वरद शय्यां त्वं शयनं गतः शय्या ममाप्यशून्यास्तु तथैव मधुसूदन
O Giver of boons, when you go to your bed, it is never devoid of Lakshmi; in the same way, O Madhusudana, may my bed also never be empty.
गीतवादित्रनिर्घोषं देवदेवस्य कीर्तयेत् घण्टा भवेदशक्तस्य सर्ववाद्यमयी यतः
One should praise the Lord of gods with the sound of singing and instruments; for one who is unable, a bell serves as all instruments.
