शुक्लवस्त्राणि दत्त्वा च सहिरण्यानि शक्तितः गायत्रीं पूजयेद्भक्त्या शुक्लमाल्यानुलेपनैः
Having given white garments along with gold according to one's ability, one should worship the Gayatri with devotion, using white garlands and ointments.
यथा न देवि भगवान् ब्रह्मलोके पितामहः त्वां परित्यज्य संतिष्ठेत् तथा भव वरप्रदा
O Goddess, just as the Blessed Lord, the Grandfather in the world of Brahma, would not remain after abandoning you, so may you be the granter of boons.
वेदाः शास्त्राणि सर्वाणि गीतनृत्यादिकं च यत् न विहीनं त्वया देवि तथा मे सन्तु सिद्धयः
May all the Vedas, scriptures, and arts such as singing and dancing, which are not deprived of you, O Goddess, likewise grant me accomplishments.
लक्ष्मीर्मेधा धरा पुष्टिर् गौरी तुष्टिः प्रभा मतिः एताभिः पाहि चाष्टाभिस् तनुभिर्मां सरस्वति
Lakshmi, Medha, Dhara, Pushti, Gauri, Tushti, Prabha, and Mati—by these eight forms, protect me, O Sarasvati.
एवं सम्पूज्य गायत्रीं वीणाक्षमणिधारिणीम् शुक्लपुष्पाक्षतैर् भक्त्या सकमण्डलुपुस्तकाम् मौनव्रतेन भुञ्जीत सायं प्रातस्तु धर्मवित्
Thus, having worshipped Gayatri, who holds the vina and rosary, with white flowers and unbroken rice, with devotion, and who carries the water-pot and book, the knower of dharma should eat in silence in the evening and morning.
पञ्चम्यां प्रतिपक्षं च पूजयेद्ब्रह्मवासिनीम् तथैव तण्डुलप्रस्थं घृतपात्रेण संयुतम् क्षीरं दद्याद्धिरण्यं च गायत्री प्रीयतामिति
On the fifth day of each fortnight, one should worship the Brahma-dwelling Goddess in the same way, offering a measure of rice with ghee in a vessel, milk, and gold, saying, 'May Gayatri be pleased.'
संध्यायां च तथा मौनम् एतत्कुर्वन्समाचरेत् नान्तरा भोजनं कुर्याद् यावन्मासास्त्रयोदश
At twilight, likewise, one should observe silence and perform this practice, not taking food in between, for thirteen months.
समाप्ते तु व्रते कुर्याद् भोजनं शुक्लतण्डुलैः पूर्वं सवस्त्रयुग्मं च दद्याद्विप्राय भोजनम्
Upon completion of the vow, one should eat food made from white rice, and beforehand, give a pair of garments and food to a Brahmin.
देव्या वितानं घण्टां च सितनेत्रे पयस्विनीम् चन्दनं वस्त्रयुग्मं च दद्याच्च शिखरं पुनः
One should give to the Goddess a canopy, a bell with white eyes, a milk-giving cow, sandalwood, a pair of garments, and again a pinnacle.
तथोपदेष्टारमपि भक्त्या सम्पूजयेद्गुरुम् वित्तशाठ्येन रहितो वस्त्रमाल्यानुलेपनैः
Likewise, one should worship the instructor, the guru, with devotion, free from miserliness, with garments, garlands, and ointments.
अनेन विधिना यस्तु कुर्यात्सारस्वतं व्रतम् विद्यावानर्थसंयुक्तो रक्तकण्ठश्च जायते
Whoever performs the Sarasvata vow according to this method becomes learned, endowed with wealth, and attains a red-throated form.
सरस्वत्याः प्रसादेन ब्रह्मलोके महीयते नारी वा कुरुते या तु सापि तत्फलगामिनी
By the grace of Sarasvati, one is honored in the world of Brahma; and any woman who performs it also attains that result.
ब्रह्मलोके वसेद् राजन् यावत् कल्पायुतत्रयम्
One dwells in the world of Brahma, O King, for three tens of thousands of kalpas.
सारस्वतं व्रतं यस्तु शृणुयादपि यः पठेत् विद्याधरपुरे सो ऽपि वसेत्कल्पायुतत्रयम्
Whoever hears or recites the Sarasvata vow also dwells in the city of the Vidyadharas for three tens of thousands of kalpas.
चन्द्रादित्योपरागे तु यत्स्नानमभिधीयते तदहं श्रोतुमिच्छामि द्रव्यमन्त्रविधानवित्
I wish to hear about the bath prescribed at the eclipse of the moon or sun, O knower of the procedures for materials and mantras.
यस्य राशिं समासाद्य भवेद्ग्रहणसम्प्लवः तस्य स्नानं प्रवक्ष्यामि मन्त्रौषधविधानतः
I will explain the bath, with mantras and medicinal preparations, for the one whose zodiac sign is affected by the conjunction of the eclipse.
चन्द्रोपरागं सम्प्राप्य कृत्वा ब्राह्मणवाचनम् सम्पूज्य चतुरो विप्राञ् शुक्लमाल्यानुलेपनैः
Having reached the lunar eclipse, after having a Brahmin recite, one should worship four Brahmins with white garlands and ointments.
पूर्वमेवोपरागस्य समासाद्यौषधादिकम् स्थापयेच् चतुरः कुम्भान् अव्रणान्सागरानिति
Before the eclipse, having arrived, one should place medicinal herbs and four unblemished water pots, as prescribed by the ocean.
गजाश्वरथ्यावल्मीकसंगमाद्ध्रदगोकुलात् राजद्वारप्रदेशाच्च मृदमानीय चाक्षिपेत्
One should collect earth from the junctions of elephant and horse paths, from anthills, from ponds and cow-stalls, and from the area near the royal gate, and then cast it.
पञ्चगव्यं च कुम्भेषु शुद्धमुक्ताफलानि च रोचनां पद्मशङ्खौ च पञ्चरत्नसमन्वितम्
In pots, place pure pañcagavya, pearls, rocanā, lotus and conch, together with the five gems.
स्फटिकं चन्दनं श्वेतं तीर्थवारि ससर्षपम् राजदन्तं सकुमुदं तथैवोशीरगुग्गुलम् एतत्सर्वं विनिक्षिप्य कुम्भेष्वावाहयेत्सुरान्
Place crystal, white sandalwood, water from holy places with mustard seeds, royal elephant tusk with kumuda, as well as uśīra and guggulu; having deposited all these in the pots, invoke the gods.
सर्वे समुद्राः सरितस् तीर्थानि जलदा नदाः आयान्तु यजमानस्य दुरितक्षयकारकाः
May all the oceans, rivers, holy places, clouds, and streams come for the sacrificer, to destroy sin.
यो ऽसौ वज्रधरो देव आदित्यानां प्रभुर्मतः सहस्रनयनश्चेन्द्रो ग्रहपीडां व्यपोहतु
May that god, bearer of the thunderbolt, regarded as the lord of the Ādityas, Indra of a thousand eyes, remove the affliction caused by the planets.
मुखं यः सर्वदेवानां सप्तार्चिरमितद्युतिः चन्द्रोपरागसम्भूताम् अग्निः पीडां व्यपोहतु
May Agni, whose face is that of all the gods, whose seven flames shine with unmatched brilliance, remove the affliction arising from the eclipse of the moon.
यः कर्मसाक्षी भूतानां धर्मो महिषवाहनः यमश्चन्द्रोपरागोत्थां मम पीडां व्यपोहतु
May Yama, the witness of deeds among beings, riding the buffalo, remove my affliction arising from the eclipse of the moon.
रक्षोगणाधिपः साक्षात् प्रलयानलसंनिभः खड्गव्यग्रो ऽतिभीमश्च रक्षःपीडां व्यपोहतु
May the lord of the hosts of demons, resembling the fire of dissolution, fierce with sword in hand and terrifying, remove the affliction caused by demons.
नागपाशधरो देवः साक्षान्मकरवाहनः स जलाधिपतिश् चन्द्रग्रहपीडां व्यपोहतु
May the god who holds the serpent noose, who rides the makara, and is lord of the waters, remove the affliction caused by the lunar eclipse.
प्राणरूपेण यो लोकान् पाति कृष्णमृगप्रियः वायुश्चन्द्रोपरागोत्थां पीडामत्र व्यपोहतु
May Vāyu, who protects the worlds in the form of breath and loves the black antelope, remove here the affliction arising from the eclipse of the moon.
यो ऽसौ निधिपतिर्देवः खड्गशूलगदाधरः चन्द्रोपरागकलुषं धनदो मे व्यपोहतु
May the god who is lord of treasures, bearing sword, spear, and mace, remove the impurity caused by the lunar eclipse and grant me wealth.
यो ऽसाविन्दुधरो देवः पिनाकी वृषवाहनः चन्द्रोपरागजां पीडां विनाशयतु शंकरः
May Śaṃkara, the god who bears the moon, who wields the bow and rides the bull, destroy the affliction arising from the lunar eclipse.
