तस्मिन्नहनि सा देवी किल विश्वात्मना सती पाणिग्रहणकैर् मन्त्रैर् उदूढा वरवर्णिनी
On that day, the goddess Satī, of excellent complexion, was wedded by the soul of the universe with marriage mantras.
तया सहैव देवेशं तृतीयायाम् अथार्चयेत् फलैर्नानाविधैर्धूपैर् दीपनैवेद्यसंयुतैः
On the third day, one should worship the Lord of the gods together with her, offering various fruits, incense, lamps, and food.
प्रतिमां पञ्चगव्येन तथा गन्धोदकेन तु स्नापयित्वार्चयेद् गौरीम् इन्दुशेखरसंयुताम्
After bathing the image with the five products of the cow and with perfumed water, one should worship Gauri, united with the moon-crested one.
नमो ऽस्तु पाटलायै तु पादौ देव्याः शिवस्य तु शिवायेति च संकीर्य जयायै गुल्फयोर् द्वयोः
Salutations to Patala at the feet of the goddess, and to Shiva at the feet of Shiva; uttering 'Shivā' and 'Jaya', one should worship the two ankles.
त्रिगुणायेति रुद्राय भवान्यै जङ्घयोर्युगम् शिवां रुद्रेश्वरायै च विजयायेति जानुनी संकीर्त्य हरिकेशाय तथोरू वरदे नमः
Reciting 'Triguṇa' for Rudra, 'Bhavānī' for the pair of shanks, 'Shivā' for Rudreśvarī, and 'Vijayā' for the knees, one should also offer to Harikeśa and then to the thighs, saying 'O bestower of boons, obeisance!'
ईशायै च कीटं देव्याः शंकरायेति शंकरम् कुक्षिद्वयं च कोटव्यै शूलिने शूलपाणये
To Īśā, the hips of the goddess; to Śaṃkara, the waist; to Koṭavī, both flanks; to the trident-bearer, the trident-wielding one.
मङ्गलायै नमस्तुभ्यम् उदरं चाभिपूजयेत् सर्वात्मने नमो रुद्रम् ईशान्यै च कुचद्वयम्
To Maṅgalā, obeisance—one should especially worship the abdomen; to the all-pervading Rudra, obeisance, and to Īśānī, both breasts.
शिवं वेदात्मने तद्वद् रुद्राण्यै कण्ठमर्चयेत् त्रिपुरघ्नाय विश्वेशम् अनन्तायै करद्वयम्
To Śiva, the embodiment of the Vedas, likewise; to Rudrāṇī, the throat; to the destroyer of Tripura, the lord of all; to Anantā, both hands.
त्रिलोचनाय च हरं बाहू कालानलप्रिये सौभाग्यभवनायेति भूषणानि सदार्चयेत् स्वाहास्वधायै च मुखम् ईश्वरायेति शूलिनम्
To the three-eyed Hara, the arms; to the beloved of the fire of time, the ornaments should always be worshipped as the abode of good fortune; to Svāhā and Svadhā, the mouth; to Īśvara, the trident-bearer.
अशोकमधुवासिन्यै पूज्यावोष्ठौ च भूतिदौ स्थाणवे तु हरं तद्वद् धास्यं चन्द्रमुखप्रिये
To Aśokamadhuvāsini, the lips should be worshipped as bestowers of prosperity; to Sthāṇu, Hara, likewise the teeth; to the beloved of the moon-faced one.
नमो ऽर्धनारीशहरम् असिताङ्गीति नासिकाम् नम उग्राय लोकेशं ललितेति पुनर्भ्रुवौ
Salutations to Ardhanārīśa-Hara; to Asitāṅgī, the nose; to Ugrā, the lord of the world; to Lalitā, again, the eyebrows.
शर्वाय पुरहन्तारं वासव्यै तु तथालकान् नमः श्रीकण्ठनाथायै शिवकेशांस्ततो ऽर्चयेत् भीमोग्रसमरूपिण्यै शिरः सर्वात्मने नमः
To Śarva, the destroyer of cities; to Vāsavī, the hair; obeisance to Śrīkaṇṭhanāthā, then worship the hair of Śiva; to Bhīmograsamarūpiṇī, the head; to the all-pervading one, obeisance.
शिवमभ्यर्च्य विधिवत् सौभाग्याष्टकमग्रतः स्थापयेद्धृतनिष्पावकुसुम्भक्षीरजीरकम्
Having duly worshipped Śiva, one should place in front the Saubhāgyāṣṭaka, consisting of roasted rice, saffron, milk, and cumin.
रसराजं च लवणं कुस्तुम्बुरु तथाष्टकम् दत्तं सौभाग्यमित्यस्मात् सौभाग्याष्टकमित्यतः
Also king of spices, salt, and eight kinds of coriander; this is called 'Saubhāgya' when given, hence it is called Saubhāgyāṣṭaka.
एवं निवेद्य तत्सर्वम् अग्रतः शिवयोः पुनः रात्रौ शृङ्गोदकं प्राश्य तद्वद्भूमावरिंदम
Having offered all this before Śiva, at night one should drink Śṛṅgodaka and likewise the lotus of the earth.
पुनः प्रभाते तु तथा कृतस्नानजपः शुचिः संपूज्य द्विजदाम्पत्यं वस्त्रमाल्यविभूषणैः
Again in the morning, after bathing and reciting mantras, being pure, one should worship a pair of Brahmin spouses with garments, garlands, and ornaments.
सौभाग्याष्टकसंयुक्तं सुवर्णचरणद्वयम् प्रीयतामत्र ललिता ब्राह्मणाय निवेदयेत्
With the Saubhāgyāṣṭaka and a pair of golden feet, may Lalitā be pleased here; one should offer them to the Brahmin.
एवं संवत्सरं यावत् तृतीयायां सदा मनो कर्तव्यं विधिवद्भक्त्या सर्वसौभाग्यमीप्सुभिः
In this way, for a whole year, on each third lunar day, the mind should always be engaged in proper and devoted observance by those desiring all good fortune.
प्राशने दानमन्त्रे च विशेषो ऽयं निबोध मे शृङ्गोदकं चैत्रमासे वैशाखे गोमयं पुनः
Now hear from me the special rule regarding the offering and the mantra at the time of eating: in the month of Caitra, Śṛṅgodaka; in Vaiśākha, cow dung again.
ज्येष्ठे मन्दारकुसुमं बिल्वपत्त्रं शुचौ स्मृतम् श्रावणे दधि संप्राश्यं नभस्ये च कुशोदकम्
In Jyeṣṭha, mandāra flowers and bilva leaves are considered pure; in Śrāvaṇa, curd is to be consumed; in Bhādrapada, water with kuśa grass.
क्षीरमाश्वयुजे मासि कार्त्तिके पृषदाज्यकम् मार्गे मासे तु गोमूत्रं पौषे संप्राशयेद्घृतम्
In the month of Āśvayuja, one should take milk; in Kārttika, clarified butter mixed with curds; in Mārgaśīrṣa, cow's urine; and in Pauṣa, one should consume ghee.
माघे कृष्णतिलांस्तद्वत् पञ्चगव्यं च फाल्गुने ललिता विजया भद्रा भवानी कुमुदा शिवा
In Māgha, black sesame seeds in the same manner, and also pañcagavya; in Phālguna, the names Lalitā, Vijayā, Bhadrā, Bhavānī, Kumudā, and Śivā are to be invoked.
वासुदेवी तथा गौरी मङ्गला कमला सती उमा च दानकाले तु प्रीयतामिति कीर्तयेत्
Likewise Vāsudevī, Gaurī, Maṅgalā, Kamalā, Satī, and Umā; at the time of offering, one should recite that it is for their pleasure.
मल्लिकाशोककमलं कदम्बोत्पलमालतीः कुब्जकं करवीरं च बाणमम्लानकुङ्कुमम्
Mallikā, Aśoka, lotus, Kadamba, blue lotus, Mālatī, Kubjaka, Karavīra, Bāṇa, fresh and unwithered saffron—
सिन्धुवारं च सर्वेषु मासेषु क्रमशः स्मृतम् जपाकुसुम्भकुसुमं मालती शतपत्त्रिका
And Sindhuvāra—these are remembered for each month in succession; hibiscus, safflower, Mālatī, and the hundred-petalled lotus.
यथालाभं प्रशस्तानि करवीरं च सर्वदा एवं संवत्सरं यावद् उपोष्य विधिवन्नरः
Whatever is available, these are commendable; Karavīra at all times. In this way, a person should observe the vow for a full year according to the prescribed rule.
स्त्री भक्ता वा कुमारी वा शिवमभ्यर्च्य भक्तितः व्रतान्ते शयनं दद्यात् सर्वोपस्करसंयुतम्
A woman, a devotee, or a maiden, having worshipped Śiva with devotion, should at the end of the vow give a bed furnished with all accessories.
उमामहेश्वरं हैमं वृषभं च गवा सह स्थापयित्वाथ शयने ब्राह्मणाय निवेदयेत्
Having placed a golden image of Umā and Maheśvara, and a bull along with cows on the bed, she should then present it to a brāhmaṇa.
अन्यान्यपि यथाशक्ति मिथुनान्यम्बरादिभिः धान्यालंकारगोदानैर् अभ्यर्चेद्धनसंचयैः वित्तशाठ्येन रहितः पूजयेद्गतविस्मयः
Other pairs as well, according to ability, with garments and the like, with gifts of grain, ornaments, and cows, should be honored with accumulated wealth; one should worship without miserliness and without pride.
एवं करोति यः सम्यक् सौभाग्यशयनव्रतम् सर्वान्कामानवाप्नोति पदमत्यन्तमश्नुते फलस्यैकस्य त्यागेन व्रतमेतत्समाचरेत्
Whoever properly performs this vow of the Auspicious Bed obtains all desires and attains the highest state; by giving up even a single fruit, one should perform this vow.
