At the request of Indra, the king of the gods and granter of boons, the lord of the stars—Chandra, master of waters—spoke with gentle assurance. "That which you seek for the sake of this battle, O king of gods, I now bestow. I send forth a cooling force, drawing away the illusion conjured by the demons." As this divine coolness spread, it wrapped the lion-like demons on the battlefield in an icy frost. Their illusions shattered, their pride dissolved, and they were left weakened in the great conflict. Having declared his intent, Chandra flooded the armies of the gods with the sacred waters of Shiva, bringing a wave of peace and relief among them. Meanwhile, the icy rains released by the moon descended with binding force, enveloping the fierce demons like thick, clustered clouds, further subduing their power.
