The one who gives rise to anger is the concealer with darkness; and there are three daughters born of theft, who take for themselves.
One who takes everything, one who takes half, and one who takes strength—these dwell in houses lacking proper conduct and in homes of bad behavior.
When people with unwashed feet enter the kitchen, or when there are wicked ones in the assembly, or in those houses where betrayal occurs—
In all those places, they freely move and take pleasure as they wish; but the son of Wandering, known as Kākajaṅgha, is unique.
When possessed by him, no one in the city attains enjoyment; he who sings while eating, or sings and laughs, O friend—
The man who engages in intercourse at twilight is entered by him, O twice-born; and she who menstruates gives birth to three daughters.
One daughter is called the breast-taker, another the ornament-taker, and the third is known as the birth-taker.
If the full marriage rites are not properly performed for her, or if they are delayed, one of them takes away both her breasts.
If the proper śrāddha is not offered, or if the mother is not worshipped, the ornament is taken from the married maiden.
In a lying-in chamber devoid of fire, water, or incense, without a lamp, weapon, pestle, or mustard seeds—
She enters, takes away the newborn, her own offspring, and the one who gives birth quickly abandons the child right there, O twice-born.
She is called the birth-taker, fierce and flesh-eating; therefore, protection must be diligently ensured in the lying-in chamber.
Due to the neglect of memory and the dwelling in empty houses, her son, known as Pracaṇḍa, destroys.
From her grandsons are born hundreds of thousands of Līkās, and eight castes of outcastes, terrifying with staff and noose.
Then, seized by hunger, those lice of the outcaste lineage rushed at one another, each desiring to devour the other.
But Pracanda restrained those lice of the outcaste lineage and established a rule among them; listen to what that rule was.
From this day forward, whoever gives shelter to lice, I will inflict upon him a severe punishment—of this there is no doubt.
If lice of the outcaste lineage give birth in a dwelling, the previous infestation will be destroyed at once.
She gives birth to two daughters, one who steals the vigor of men and women, one with the form of wind and one formless; these are her weapons.
At the end of conception, the wind-formed one, to whomever she casts her offspring, that man becomes possessed by wind-semen, and so too does the woman.
Likewise, the formless one immediately causes loss of vigor to anyone she approaches, especially a man who eats flesh, eats without bathing, or eats improperly.
But the daughter who is hostile, with a frowning, crooked face, has two sons among men who are known for causing harm.
A man or woman who lacks purity, who delights in slander, who is fickle and associates with the wicked, becomes deprived of vigor.
These two seize a man who hates others, whether it be his mother, brother, friends, loved ones, relatives, or outsiders.
A man who is hated perishes, whether in righteousness or in wealth; but one alone, by his own qualities, reveals the deeds of the wicked in the world.
The second draws away the virtues, friendship, and social standing of others; thus, all these evil companions are the progeny of disease, whose wicked conduct fills the whole world.
Kraustuki said: O venerable one, you have described to me in detail the entire story, including the deeds and birth of Svarocisha.
Now, that knowledge called Padmini, which bestows enjoyment—tell me in detail about the treasures associated with it.
There are eight treasures—describe to me, O teacher, their forms, their substance, and their nature, as you know them.
Markandeya said: That knowledge called Padmini is Lakshmi herself, and the treasures are her abodes; listen as I explain them to you.
