यथैष पर्वतो मेरुर् देवलोको ह्युदाहृतः तस्य चेदं हि माहात्म्यं विद्धि देववरस्य ह
Just as this mountain Meru is called the world of the gods, so you should know this greatness of the best of gods.
ज्ञात्वा चेश्वरसद्भावं ज्ञात्वा मामंबुजेक्षणम् महादेवं महाभूतं भूतानां वरदं प्रभुम्
Knowing the true nature of the Lord, and knowing me, lotus-eyed, as Mahādeva, the great being, the bestower of boons and master of beings—
प्रणवेनाथ साम्ना तु नमस्कृत्य जगद्गुरुम् त्वां च मां चैव संक्रुद्धो निःश्वासान्निर्दहेदयम्
With the syllable Oṃ and with Sāman hymns, bowing to the teacher of the world, both you and I, if angered, could burn this world with our breaths.
एवं ज्ञात्वा महायोगम् अभ्युत्तिष्ठन्महाबलम् अहं त्वामग्रतः कृत्वा स्तोष्याम्यनलसप्रभम्
Knowing thus the great yoga, rising up with great power, I, placing you at the forefront, will praise the one whose radiance is like fire.
ब्रह्माणमग्रतः कृत्वा ततः स गरुडध्वजः अतीतैश् च भविष्यैश् च वर्तमानैस्तथैव च
Then, placing Brahmā at the front, he of the Garuḍa banner, with those of the past, future, and present—
नामभिश्छान्दसैश्चैव इदं स्तोत्रमुदीरयत् नमस्तुभ्यं भगवते सुव्रतानन्ततेजसे
With names and Vedic meters, he uttered this hymn: 'Salutations to you, O blessed one, of excellent vows and infinite splendor.'
नमः क्षेत्राधिपतये बीजिने शूलिने नमः सुमेढ्रायार्च्यमेढ्राय दण्डिने रूक्षरेतसे
Homage to the Lord of the field, to the bearer of seed, to the one with the spear; homage to the one of noble phallus, to the one worthy of worship, to the staff-bearer, to the one of harsh seed.
नमो ज्येष्ठाय श्रेष्ठाय पूर्वाय प्रथमाय च नमो मान्याय पूज्याय सद्योजाताय वै नमः
Homage to the eldest, to the best, to the one who is first and foremost; homage to the venerable, to the worshipful, to the one who is born instantly.
गह्वराय घटेशाय व्योमचीरांबराय च नमस्ते ह्यस्मदादीनां भूतानां प्रभवे नमः
To the one dwelling in caves, to the Lord of vessels, to the one whose garment is the sky—homage; homage to the Lord of beings, beginning with us.
वेदानां प्रभवे चैव स्मृतीनां प्रभवे नमः प्रभवे कर्मदानानां द्रव्याणां प्रभवे नमः
Homage to the Lord of the Vedas, and to the Lord of the Smṛtis; homage to the Lord of actions and gifts, and to the Lord of substances.
नमो योगस्य प्रभवे सांख्यस्य प्रभवे नमः नमो ध्रुवनिबद्धानाम् ऋषीणां प्रभवे नमः
Homage to the Lord of Yoga, to the Lord of Sāṃkhya; homage to the Lord of the sages firmly established.
ऋक्षाणां प्रभवे तुभ्यं ग्रहाणां प्रभवे नमः वैद्युताशनिमेघानां गर्जितप्रभवे नमः
To you, Lord of the stars, homage; to the Lord of the planets, homage; to the Lord of lightning, thunder, and clouds, to the Lord of roaring, homage.
महोदधीनां प्रभवे द्वीपानां प्रभवे नमः अद्रीणां प्रभवे चैव वर्षाणां प्रभवे नमः
Homage to the Lord of the great oceans, to the Lord of islands; and to the Lord of mountains, and to the Lord of rains, homage.
नमो नदीनां प्रभवे नदानां प्रभवे नमः महौषधीनां प्रभवे वृक्षाणां प्रभवे नमः
Homage to the Lord of rivers, to the Lord of streams; homage to the Lord of great herbs, to the Lord of trees.
धर्मवृक्षाय धर्माय स्थितीनां प्रभवे नमः प्रभवे च परार्धस्य परस्य प्रभवे नमः
To the tree of righteousness, to righteousness itself, to the Lord of all that abides—homage; and to the Lord of the supreme beyond, homage.
नमो रसानां प्रभवे रत्नानां प्रभवे नमः क्षणानां प्रभवे चैव लवानां प्रभवे नमः
Homage to the Lord of tastes, to the Lord of jewels; and to the Lord of moments, to the Lord of instants, homage.
अहोरात्रार्धमासानां मासानां प्रभवे नमः ऋतूनां प्रभवे तुभ्यं संख्यायाः प्रभवे नमः
Homage to the Lord of days and nights, of fortnights, of months; to you, Lord of seasons, Lord of number, homage.
प्रभवे चापरार्धस्य परार्धप्रभवे नमः नमः पुराणप्रभवे सर्गाणां प्रभवे नमः
And to the Lord of the other half of time, to the Lord of the supreme half, homage; homage to the Lord of the Purāṇas, to the Lord of creations.
मन्वन्तराणां प्रभवे योगस्य प्रभवे नमः चतुर्विधस्य सर्गस्य प्रभवे ऽनन्तचक्षुषे
Homage to the Lord of the ages of Manu, to the Lord of Yoga; to the Lord of the fourfold creation, to the one of infinite vision.
कल्पोदयनिबन्धानां वातानां प्रभवे नमः नमो विश्वस्य प्रभवे ब्रह्माधिपतये नमः
Homage to the Lord of the cycles of creation and dissolution, to the Lord of winds; homage to the Lord of the universe, to the Lord of Brahmā.
विद्यानां प्रभवे चैव विद्याधिपतये नमः नमो व्रताधिपतये व्रतानां प्रभवे नमः
Homage to the Lord of knowledge, to the Lord of learning; homage to the Lord of vows, to the Lord of observances.
मन्त्राणां प्रभवे तुभ्यं मन्त्राधिपतये नमः पितॄणां पतये चैव पशूनां पतये नमः
To you, Lord of mantras, homage; to the Lord of mantras, homage; and to the Lord of ancestors, and to the Lord of cattle, homage.
वाग्वृषाय नमस्तुभ्यं पुराणवृषभाय च नमः पशूनां पतये गोवृषेन्द्रध्वजाय च
Homage to you, the bull of speech, and to the ancient bull; homage to the Lord of cattle, to the one whose banner bears the bull and Indra's sign.
प्रजापतीनां पतये सिद्धीनां पतये नमः दैत्यदानवसंघानां रक्षसां पतये नमः
Homage to the Lord of the progenitors, to the Lord of accomplishments; homage to the Lord of the hosts of Daityas and Dānavas, to the Lord of the Rākṣasas.
गन्धर्वाणां च पतये यक्षाणां पतये नमः गरुडोरगसर्पाणां पक्षिणां पतये नमः
Salutation to the lord of the Gandharvas, to the lord of the Yakshas; salutation to the lord of Garudas, serpents, and birds.
सर्वगुह्यपिशाचानां गुह्याधिपतये नमः गोकर्णाय च गोप्त्रे च शङ्कुकर्णाय वै नमः
Salutation to the lord of all secret spirits and goblins; salutation to Gokarna, the protector, and to Shankukarna as well.
वराहायाप्रमेयाय ऋक्षाय विरजाय च नमः सुराणां पतये गणानां पतये नमः
Salutation to Varaha, the immeasurable one, to Riksha, and to the stainless; salutation to the lord of the gods and the lord of the hosts.
अंभसां पतये चैव ओजसां पतये नमः नमो ऽस्तु लक्ष्मीपतये श्रीपाय क्षितिपाय च
Salutation to the lord of waters and to the lord of strength; salutation to the lord of Lakshmi, to Shripa, and to the lord of the earth.
बलाबलसमूहाय अक्षोभ्यक्षोभणाय च दीप्तशृङ्गैकशृङ्गाय वृषभाय ककुद्मिने
Salutation to the one who is the sum of strength and weakness, to the unshakable and the shaker, to the one with blazing or single horn, to the bull, to the one with a hump.
नमः स्थैर्याय वपुषे तेजसानुव्रताय च अतीताय भविष्याय वर्तमानाय वै नमः
Salutation to firmness, to your form, to the follower of brilliance; salutation to the one who is past, future, and indeed present.
