तस्य क्रोधेन दह्यन्ते आयुःश्रीज्ञानसत्क्रियाः तत्क्रोधं ये करिष्यन्ति तेषां यज्ञाश् च निष्फलाः
By his anger, a person's lifespan, prosperity, knowledge, and good deeds are destroyed; for those who provoke his anger, their sacrifices become fruitless.
जपान्यनियमाश्चैव नात्र कार्या विचारणा गुरोर्विरुद्धं यद्वाक्यं न वदेत्सर्वयत्नतः
Recitations and observances are of no use here; one should never, by any effort, speak words opposed to the guru.
वदेद् यदि महामोहाद् रौरवं नरकं व्रजेत् चित्तेनैव च वित्तेन तथा वाचा च सुव्रताः
If, out of great delusion, one does speak so, one goes to the hell called Raurava; therefore, O virtuous ones, by mind, wealth, and speech—
मिथ्या न कारयेद्देवि क्रियया च गुरोः सदा दुर्गुणे ख्यापिते तस्य नैर्गुण्यशतभाग्भवेत्
O Devi, one should never act falsely toward the guru, nor ever publicize his faults; if one does, his own virtues are diminished a hundredfold.
गुणे तु ख्यापिते तस्य सार्वगुण्यफलं भवेत् गुरोर्हितं प्रियं कुर्याद् आदिष्टो वा न वा सदा
But if one proclaims the guru's virtues, he attains the fruit of all virtues; one should always do what is beneficial and pleasing to the guru, whether instructed or not.
असमक्षं समक्षं वा गुरोः कार्यं समाचरेत् गुरोर्हितं प्रियं कुर्यान् मनोवाक्कायकर्मभिः
Whether in his presence or absence, one should perform the guru's work; one should do what is beneficial and pleasing to the guru by thought, word, and deed.
कुर्वन्पतत्यधो गत्वा तत्रैव परिवर्तते तस्मात्स सर्वदोपास्यो वन्दनीयश् च सर्वदा
If one acts otherwise, he falls to a lower state and revolves there; therefore, the guru should always be worshipped and honored at all times.
समीपस्थो ऽप्यनुज्ञाप्य वदेत्तद्विमुखो गुरुम् एवमाचारवान् भक्तो नित्यं जपपरायणः
Even when near, one should speak only with permission, never turning away from the guru; one who acts thus, devoted, always intent on recitation—
गुरुप्रियकरो मन्त्रं विनियोक्तुं ततो ऽर्हति विनियोगं प्रवक्ष्यामि सिद्धमन्त्रप्रयोजनम्
One who pleases the guru is worthy to employ the mantra; I will now explain the application of the mantra and the purpose of using a perfected mantra.
दौर्बल्यं याति तन्मन्त्रं विनियोगमजानतः यस्य येन वियुञ्जीत कार्येण तु विशेषतः
If one does not know the application, that mantra becomes weak; one should apply each mantra according to its particular purpose.
विनियोगः स विज्ञेय ऐहिकामुष्मिकं फलम् विनियोगजमायुष्यम् आरोग्यं तनुनित्यता
That application should be understood as producing results in this world and the next; from proper application come long life, health, and constancy.
राज्यैश्वर्यं च विज्ञानं स्वर्गो निर्वाण एव च प्रोक्षणं चाभिषेकं च अघमर्षणमेव च
Sovereignty, lordship, knowledge, heaven, and liberation, as well as sprinkling, consecration, and the removal of sin—
स्नाने च संध्ययोश्चैव कुर्यादेकादशेन वै शुचिः पर्वतमारुह्य जपेल्लक्षमतन्द्रितः
In bathing and at the two twilights, one should perform with the eleventh (mantra); being pure, one should climb a mountain and recite a hundred thousand times without fatigue.
महानद्यां द्विलक्षं तु दीर्घमायुरवाप्नुयात् दूर्वाङ्कुरास्तिला वाणी गुडूची घुटिका तथा
In a great river, reciting two hundred thousand times grants long life; with shoots of durva grass, sesame, speech, guduchi, and pills likewise.
तेषां तु दशसाहस्रं होममायुष्यवर्धनम् अश्वत्थवृक्षमाश्रित्य जपेल्लक्षद्वयं सुधीः
Of these, a wise person should perform a fire offering of ten thousand oblations to increase lifespan, and recite two hundred thousand mantras while situated near an ashvattha tree.
शनैश्चरदिने स्पृष्ट्वा दीर्घायुष्यं लभेन्नरः शनैश्चरदिने ऽश्वत्थं पाणिभ्यां संस्पृशेत्सुधीः
On a day ruled by Saturn, by touching the ashvattha tree with one's hands, a wise person attains long life; on a Saturn day, a man should gently touch the ashvattha tree.
जपेदष्टोत्तरशतं सोममृत्युहरो भवेत् आदित्याभिमुखो भूत्वा जपेल्लक्षमनन्यधीः
Reciting one hundred and eight times, one becomes free from the influence of Soma and death; facing the sun, with unwavering mind, one should recite one hundred thousand mantras.
अर्कैरष्टशतं जप्त्वा जुह्वन्व्याधेर्विमुच्यते समस्तव्याधिशान्त्यर्थं पलाशसमिधैर् नरः
By reciting one hundred and eight times to the sun and performing offerings, one is freed from disease; for the pacification of all ailments, a person should offer palasha wood in the fire.
हुत्वा दशसहस्रं तु निरोगी मनुजो भवेत् नित्यमष्टशतं जप्त्वा पिबेद् अम्भो ऽर्कसन्निधौ
After offering ten thousand oblations, a person becomes free from illness; by daily reciting one hundred and eight times and drinking water in the presence of the sun.
औदर्यैर्व्याधिभिः सर्वैर् मासेनैकेन मुच्यते एकादशेन भुञ्जीयाद् अन्नं चैवाभिमन्त्रितम्
Within a single month, one is freed from all abdominal diseases; on the eleventh day, one should eat consecrated food.
भक्ष्यं चान्यत्तथा पेयं विषमप्यमृतं भवेत् जपेल् लक्षं तु पूर्वाह्णे हुत्वा चाष्टशतेन वै
Whatever is eaten or drunk, even poison, becomes nectar; one should recite one hundred thousand mantras in the morning and offer one hundred and eight oblations.
सूर्यं नित्यमुपस्थाय सम्यगारोग्यमाप्नुयात् नदीतोयेन सम्पूर्णं घटं संस्पृश्य शोभनम्
By daily approaching the sun, one attains perfect health; touching a beautiful pot filled with river water.
जप्त्वायुतं च तत्स्नानाद् रोगाणां भेषजं भवेत् अष्टाविंशज्जपित्वान्नम् अश्नीयाद् अन्वहं शुचिः
After reciting ten thousand times and bathing, it becomes a remedy for diseases; having recited twenty-eight times, a pure person should eat food each day.
हुत्वा च तावत्पालाशैर् एवं वारोग्यम् अश्नुते चन्द्रसूर्यग्रहे पूर्वम् उपोष्य विधिना शुचिः
After offering as many palasha sticks in the fire, one attains health; before a lunar or solar eclipse, a pure person should fast according to the prescribed method.
यावद्ग्रहणमोक्षं तु तावन्नद्यां समाहितः जपेत्समुद्रगामिन्यां विमोक्षे ग्रहणस्य तु
For the duration of the eclipse, one should remain focused and recite mantras in the river; at the release of the eclipse, one should recite mantras in a river flowing to the ocean.
अष्टोत्तरसहस्रेण पिबेद्ब्राह्मीरसं द्विजाः ऐहिकां लभते मेधां सर्वशास्त्रधरां शुभाम्
By reciting one thousand and eight times, Brahmins should drink the juice of Brahmi; one attains worldly intelligence and mastery of all auspicious scriptures.
सारस्वती भवेद्देवी तस्य वागतिमानुषी ग्रहनक्षत्रपीडासु जपेद्भक्त्यायुतं नरः
The goddess Sarasvati grants him eloquence among humans; in afflictions caused by planets and stars, a person should recite ten thousand mantras with devotion.
हुत्वा चाष्टसहस्रं तु ग्रहपीडां व्यपोहति दुःस्वप्नदर्शने स्नात्वा जपेद्वै चायुतं नरः
By offering eight thousand oblations, one dispels planetary afflictions; after seeing a bad dream, a person should bathe and recite ten thousand mantras.
घृतेनाष्टशतं हुत्वा सद्यः शान्तिर्भविष्यति चन्द्रसूर्यग्रहे लिङ्गं समभ्यर्च्य यथाविधि
By offering one hundred and eight oblations with ghee, peace is attained immediately; during a lunar or solar eclipse, one should properly worship the linga.
यत् किंचित् प्रार्थयेद् देवि जपेदयुतमादरात् संनिधावस्य देवस्य शुचिः संयतमानसः
Whatever one desires, O Devi, one should recite ten thousand mantras with reverence, in the presence of that deity, pure and with controlled mind.
