वेदशास्त्रार्थतत्त्वज्ञः सर्वकार्याभिचिन्तकः समस्तगुणसम्पन्नः सर्वदेवेश्वरात्मजः
One who knows the true meaning of the Vedas and scriptures, who considers all actions, endowed with all virtues, the son of the Lord of all gods.
ज्येष्ठः सर्वेश्वरः सौम्यो महाविष्णुतनुः स्वयम् आर्यः सेनापतिः साक्षाद् गहनो मखमर्दनः
The eldest, Lord of all, gentle, himself the great form of Vishnu, noble, commander of the army, directly profound, destroyer of sacrifices.
ऐरावतगजारूढः कृष्णकुञ्चितमूर्धजः कृष्णाङ्गो रक्तनयनः शशिपन्नगभूषणः
Mounted on Airavata the elephant, with hair curled and dark, his body black, eyes red, adorned with the moon and serpents—
भूतैः प्रेतैः पिशाचैश् च कूष्माण्डैश् च समावृतः शिवार्चनरतः साक्षात् स मे पापं व्यपोहतु
Surrounded by spirits, ghosts, fiends, and goblins, devoted to the worship of Shiva in person—may he remove my sin.
ब्रह्माणी चैव माहेशी कौमारी वैष्णवी तथा वाराही चैव माहेन्द्री चामुण्डाग्नेयिका तथा
Brahmani, Maheshwari, Kaumari, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Mahendri, Chamunda, and Agneyika—
एता वै मातरः सर्वाः सर्वलोकप्रपूजिताः योगिनीभिर् महापापं व्यपोहन्तु समाहिताः
These indeed are all the Mothers, revered by all the worlds; may these Yoginis, intent, dispel my great sin.
वीरभद्रो महातेजा हिमकुन्देन्दुसन्निभः रुद्रस्य तनयो रौद्रः शूलासक्तमहाकरः
Virabhadra, of great brilliance, shining like snow, jasmine, and the moon, the fierce son of Rudra, mighty-handed and bearing a trident—
सहस्रबाहुः सर्वज्ञः सर्वायुधधरः स्वयम् त्रेताग्निनयनो देवस् त्रैलोक्याभयदः प्रभुः
With a thousand arms, all-knowing, bearing every weapon himself, his eyes like the sacrificial fire, the lord who grants safety to the three worlds—
मातॄणां रक्षको नित्यं महावृषभवाहनः त्रैलोक्यनमितः श्रीमान् शिवपादार्चने रतः
Ever the protector of the Mothers, riding the great bull, honored by the three worlds, glorious, devoted to the worship of Shiva's feet—
यज्ञस्य च शिरश्छेत्ता पूष्णो दन्तविनाशनः वह्नेर्हस्तहरः साक्षाद् भगनेत्रनिपातनः
He who cut off the head of the sacrifice, destroyed the teeth of Pushan, took the hand of Agni, and struck out Bhaga's eyes—
पादाङ्गुष्ठेन सोमाङ्गपेषकः प्रभुसंज्ञकः उपेन्द्रेन्द्रयमादीनां देवानामङ्गरक्षकः
Who, with his big toe, crushed Soma's body, known as the Lord, protector of the bodies of Upendra, Indra, Yama, and the other gods—
सरस्वत्या महादेव्या नासिकोष्ठावकर्तनः गणेश्वरो यः सेनानीः स मे पापं व्यपोहतु
Who cut off the tip of Sarasvati's nose, lord of the Ganas, commander of the army—may he remove my sin.
ज्येष्ठा वरिष्ठा वरदा वराभरणभूषिता महालक्ष्मीर्जगन्माता सा मे पापं व्यपोहतु
The eldest, the most excellent, the granter of boons, adorned with the finest ornaments, Mahalakshmi, mother of the world—may she remove my sin.
महामोहा महाभागा महाभूतगणैर्वृता शिवार्चनरता नित्यं सा मे पापं व्यपोहतु
Greatly deluding, greatly fortunate, surrounded by hosts of great spirits, ever devoted to the worship of Shiva—may she remove my sin.
लक्ष्मीः सर्वगुणोपेता सर्वलक्षणसंयुता सर्वदा सर्वगा देवी सा मे पापं व्यपोहतु
Lakshmi, endowed with all virtues, possessing every mark, always present everywhere, the goddess—may she remove my sin.
सिंहारूढा महादेवी पार्वत्यास्तनयाव्यया विष्णोर्निद्रा महामाया वैष्णवी सुरपूजिता
The great goddess, riding a lion, the imperishable daughter of Parvati, the sleep of Vishnu, the great illusion, Vaishnavi, worshipped by the gods—
त्रिनेत्रा वरदा देवी महिषासुरमर्दिनी शिवार्चनरता दुर्गा सा मे पापं व्यपोहतु
The three-eyed, boon-giving goddess, slayer of Mahishasura, ever devoted to the worship of Shiva, Durga—may she remove my sin.
ब्रह्माण्डधारका रुद्राः सर्वलोकप्रपूजिताः सत्याश् च मानसाः सर्वे व्यपोहन्तु भयं मम
The Rudras, bearers of the universe, revered by all the worlds, and all the truthful, mind-born ones—may they remove my fear.
भूताः प्रेताः पिशाचाश् च कूष्माण्डगणनायकाः कूष्माण्डकाश् च ते पापं व्यपोहन्तु समाहिताः
Spirits, ghosts, fiends, and leaders of the hosts of goblins, and the goblins themselves—may they, intent, remove my sin.
अनेन देवं स्तुत्वा तु चान्ते सर्वं समापयेत् प्रणम्य शिरसा भूमौ प्रतिमासे द्विजोत्तमाः
Having praised the god with this, at the end one should complete everything, bowing with the head to the ground each month, O best of twice-born.
व्यपोहनस्तवं दिव्यं यः पठेच्छृणुयादपि विधूय सर्वपापानि रुद्रलोके महीयते
Whoever recites or even hears this divine hymn of dispelling, having cast off all sins, is honored in the world of Rudra.
कन्यार्थी लभते कन्यां जयकामो जयं लभेत् अर्थकामो लभेदर्थं पुत्रकामो बहून् सुतान्
One who desires a bride obtains a bride; one who seeks victory attains victory; one who desires wealth gains wealth; one who wishes for sons obtains many sons.
विद्यार्थी लभते विद्यां भोगार्थी भोगमाप्नुयात् यान्यान्प्रार्थयते कामान् मानवः श्रवणादिह
One who seeks knowledge attains knowledge; one who desires enjoyment obtains enjoyment; whatever other desires a person has, by hearing or reciting here, he attains them.
तान्सर्वान् शीघ्रमाप्नोति देवानां च प्रियो भवेत् पठ्यमानमिदं पुण्यं यमुद्दिश्य तु पठ्यते
He quickly obtains all those desires and becomes dear to the gods, when this meritorious hymn is recited with a specific intention.
तस्य रोगा न बाधन्ते वातपित्तादिसंभवाः नाकाले मरणं तस्य न सर्पैरपि दश्यते
Diseases arising from wind, bile, and the like do not afflict him; he does not die untimely, nor is he bitten even by serpents.
यत्पुण्यं चैव तीर्थानां यज्ञानां चैव यत्फलम् दानानां चैव यत्पुण्यं व्रतानां च विशेषतः
Whatever merit comes from pilgrimages, whatever fruit comes from sacrifices, whatever merit comes from gifts, and especially from vows—
तत्पुण्यं कोटिगुणितं जप्त्वा चाप्नोति मानवः गोघ्नश्चैव कृतघ्नश् च वीरहा ब्रह्महा भवेत्
That merit, multiplied a crore-fold, a person obtains by reciting; even a slayer of cows, an ungrateful one, a hero-slayer, or a Brahmin-killer is purified.
शरणागतघाती च मित्रविश्वासघातकः दुष्टः पापसमाचारो मातृहा पितृहा तथा
One who kills a refugee, betrays a friend’s trust, acts wickedly and sinfully, or kills mother or father—
व्यपोह्य सर्वपापानि शिवलोके महीयते
Having cast off all sins, he is honored in the world of Shiva.
व्यपोहनस्तवं पुण्यं श्रुतमस्माभिर् आदरात् प्रसंगाल्लिङ्गदानस्य व्रतान्यपि वदस्व नः
We have attentively heard this meritorious hymn of dispelling; now, in connection with the giving of the liṅga, please tell us also about the vows.
