कला काष्ठा लवो मात्रा मुहूर्तो ऽहः क्षपा क्षणः विश्वक्षेत्रप्रदो बीजं लिङ्गमाद्यस्तु निर्मुखः
Kala, kashtha, lava, matra, muhurta, day, night, kshana; the giver of the field of the universe, the seed, the primal linga, the one without faces.
सदसद्व्यक्तमव्यक्तं पिता माता पितामहः स्वर्गद्वारं मोक्षद्वारं प्रजाद्वारं त्रिविष्टपः
Existence and non-existence, manifest and unmanifest, father, mother, grandfather; the gate to heaven, the gate to liberation, the gate to creation, the threefold heaven.
निर्वाणं हृदयश्चैव ब्रह्मलोकः परा गतिः देवासुरविनिर्माता देवासुरपरायणः
Liberation, the heart, indeed, the world of Brahma, the supreme path; creator of gods and asuras, the ultimate refuge of gods and asuras.
देवासुरगुरुर् देवो देवासुरनमस्कृतः देवासुरमहामात्रो देवासुरगणाश्रयः
Teacher of gods and asuras, god, worshipped by gods and asuras, the great minister of gods and asuras, the refuge of the hosts of gods and asuras.
देवासुरगणाध्यक्षो देवासुरगणाग्रणीः देवाधिदेवो देवर्षिर् देवासुरवरप्रदः
Overseer of the hosts of gods and asuras, leader of the hosts of gods and asuras, god of gods, divine seer, bestower of boons to gods and asuras.
देवासुरेश्वरो विष्णुर् देवासुरमहेश्वरः सर्वदेवमयो ऽचिन्त्यो देवतात्मा स्वयम्भवः
Lord of gods and asuras, Vishnu, great lord of gods and asuras, composed of all gods, inconceivable, the soul of divinities, self-born.
उद्गतस्त्रिक्रमो वैद्यो वरदो ऽवरजो ऽम्बरः इज्यो हस्ती तथा व्याघ्रो देवसिंहो महर्षभः
Risen up, three-stepped, physician, bestower of boons, younger, sky-clad, worshipped, elephant, likewise tiger, lion of the gods, great bull.
विबुधाग्र्यः सुरः श्रेष्ठः स्वर्गदेवस्तथोत्तमः संयुक्तः शोभनो वक्ता आशानां प्रभवो ऽव्ययः
Foremost among the wise, best of gods, supreme among the gods of heaven, united, splendid, speaker, origin of the directions, imperishable.
गुरुः कान्तो निजः सर्गः पवित्रः सर्ववाहनः शृङ्गी शृङ्गप्रियो बभ्रू राजराजो निरामयः
Teacher, beloved, his own creation, pure, bearer of all, horned, fond of horns, tawny, king of kings, free from disease.
अभिरामः सुशरणो निरामः सर्वसाधनः ललाटाक्षो विश्वदेहो हरिणो ब्रह्मवर्चसः
Charming, excellent refuge, free from affliction, the means of all, with a forehead eye, body of the universe, deer, possessing the radiance of Brahma.
स्थावराणां पतिश्चैव नियतेन्द्रियवर्तनः सिद्धार्थः सर्वभूतार्थो ऽचिन्त्यः सत्यः शुचिव्रतः
Lord of the immovable, one who controls the senses, accomplished, the purpose of all beings, inconceivable, true, of pure vows.
व्रताधिपः परं ब्रह्म मुक्तानां परमा गतिः विमुक्तो मुक्तकेशश् च श्रीमाञ्छ्रीवर्धनो जगत्
Lord of vows, the supreme Brahman, the highest goal of the liberated, free, with loosened hair, glorious, increaser of prosperity, the world.
यथाप्रधानं भगवान् इति भक्त्या स्तुतो मया भक्तिमेवं पुरस्कृत्य मया यज्ञपतिर्विभुः
Thus, according to the principal order, the Blessed One has been praised by me with devotion; having set devotion first, I have praised the Lord of sacrifice, the all-pervading.
ततो ह्यनुज्ञां प्राप्यैवं स्तुतो भक्तिमतां गतिः तस्माल्लब्ध्वा स्तवं शंभोर् नृपस्त्रैलोक्यविश्रुतः
Then, having obtained permission, thus praised, the goal of the devoted; therefore, having received the hymn of Shambhu, the king renowned in the three worlds.
अश्वमेधसहस्रस्य फलं प्राप्य महायशाः गणाधिपत्यं सम्प्राप्तस् तण्डिनस्तेजसा प्रभोः
Having attained the fruit of a thousand horse sacrifices, the illustrious one obtained the lordship of the hosts through the brilliance of Tandin, the Lord.
यः पठेच्छृणुयाद् वापि श्रावयेद्ब्राह्मणानपि अश्वमेधसहस्रस्य फलं प्राप्नोति वै द्विजाः
Whoever recites, hears, or causes Brahmins to hear this, indeed attains the fruit of a thousand horse sacrifices, O twice-born.
ब्रह्मघ्नश् च सुरापश् च स्तेयी च गुरुतल्पगः शरणागतघाती च मित्रविश्वासघातकः
A slayer of a Brahmin, a drinker of liquor, a thief, one who violates the teacher's bed, a killer of one who has sought refuge, and a betrayer of trust with a friend.
मातृहा पितृहा चैव वीरहा भ्रूणहा तथा संवत्सरं क्रमाज्जप्त्वा त्रिसंध्यं शङ्कराश्रमे
A killer of mother, father, hero, or embryo—by reciting for a year, at the three junctions, in Shankara's hermitage.
देवम् इष्ट्वा त्रिसंध्यं च सर्वपापैः प्रमुच्यते
By worshipping the god at the three junctions of the day, one is freed from all sins.
त्रिधन्वा देवदेवस्य प्रसादात्तण्डिनस् तथा अश्वमेधसहस्रस्य फलं प्राप्य प्रयत्नतः
Tridhanvan, by the grace of the Lord of gods, and with effort, attained the fruit equal to a thousand horse sacrifices.
गाणपत्यं दृढं प्राप्तः सर्वदेवनमस्कृतः आसीत्त्रिधन्वनश्चापि विद्वांस्त्रय्यारुणो नृपः
Having firmly attained devotion to Ganesha and being honored by all the gods, Tridhanvan, the learned king of the Trayyaruna lineage, was thus.
तस्य सत्यव्रतो नाम कुमारो ऽभून्महाबलः तेन भार्या विदर्भस्य हृता हत्वामितौजसम्
He had a son named Satyavrata, mighty in strength, who took the wife of the Vidarbha king by slaying the exceedingly powerful one.
पाणिग्रहणमन्त्रेषु निष्ठाम् अप्रापितेष्विह तेनाधर्मेण संयुक्तं राजा त्रय्यारुणो ऽत्यजत्
Before the marriage rites were completed with the proper mantras, the king Trayyaruna abandoned him for this unrighteous act.
पितरं सो ऽब्रवीत् त्यक्तः क्व गच्छामीति वै द्विजाः पिता त्वेनमथोवाच श्वपाकैः सह वर्तय
Abandoned, he said to his father, 'Where shall I go?' And his father replied, 'Live among the outcastes.'
इत्युक्तः स विचक्राम नगराद्वचनात् पितुः स तु सत्यव्रतो धीमाञ् छ्वपाकावसथान्तिके
Thus addressed by his father, he departed from the city and, being wise, Satyavrata dwelt near the settlement of the outcastes.
पित्रा त्यक्तो ऽवसद्वीरः पिता चास्य वनं ययौ सर्वलोकेषु विख्यातस् त्रिशङ्कुरिति वीर्यवान्
Abandoned by his father, the heroic Satyavrata lived there, while his father went to the forest; he became renowned in all worlds as the valiant Trishanku.
वसिष्ठकोपात्पुण्यात्मा राजा सत्यव्रतः पुरा विश्वामित्रो महातेजा वरं दत्त्वा त्रिशङ्कवे
Once, due to the anger of Vasistha, the righteous king Satyavrata, and the great sage Vishvamitra, having granted a boon to Trishanku,
राज्ये ऽभिषिच्य तं पित्र्ये याजयामास तं मुनिः मिषतां देवतानां च वसिष्ठस्य च कौशिकः
The sage Kaushika, in the presence of the gods and Vasistha, consecrated him as king in his ancestral kingdom and performed the sacrifice for him.
सशरीरं तदा तं वै दिवमारोपयद्विभुः तस्य सत्यव्रता नाम भार्या कैकयवंशजा
Then, that illustrious one raised him bodily to heaven; Satyavrata's wife, born of the Kaikeya lineage, was named Satyavrata.
कुमारं जनयामास हरिश्चन्द्रमकल्मषम् हरिश्चन्द्रस्य च सुतो रोहितो नाम वीर्यवान्
She gave birth to a son, Harishchandra, free from sin; and Harishchandra's son was the valiant Rohita.
