श्वेतः श्वेतशिखण्डी च श्वेताश्वः श्वेतलोहितः दुन्दुभिः शतरूपश् च ऋचीकः केतुमांस् तथा
Shveta, Shvetaśikhaṇḍī, Shvetāśva, Shvetalohita; Dundubhi, Shatarūpa, Ṛcīka, and likewise Ketumāṃ.
विशोकश्च विकेशश् च विपाशः पापनाशनः सुमुखो दुर्मुखश्चैव दुर्दमो दुरतिक्रमः
Viśoka, Vikeśa, Vipāśa, the destroyer of sin; Sumukha, Durmukha, Durdama, and Duratikrama.
सनकश् च सनन्दश् च प्रभुर्यश् च सनातनः ऋभुः सनत्कुमारश् च सुधामा विरजास् तथा
Sanaka, Sananda, Prabhu, and Sanātana; Ṛbhu, Sanatkumāra, Sudhāmā, and likewise Viraja.
शङ्खपाद् वैरजश्चैव मेघः सारस्वतस् तथा सुवाहनो मुनिश्रेष्ठो मेघवाहो महाद्युतिः
Śaṅkhapād, Vairaja, and likewise Megha; Sārasvata, Suvāhana, the foremost sage; Meghavāha, of great splendor.
कपिलश्चासुरिश्चैव तथा पञ्चशिखो मुनिः वाल्कलश् च महायोगी धर्मात्मानो महौजसः
Kapila, Asuri, and likewise the sage Pañcaśikha; Vālkala, the great yogi, righteous and of great energy.
पराशरश् च गर्गश् च भार्गवश्चाङ्गिरास् तथा बलबन्धुर् निरामित्रः केतुशृङ्गस्तपोधनः
Parāśara, Garga, Bhārgava, and likewise Āṅgirasa; Balabandhu, Nirāmitra, Ketuśṛṅga, and Tapodhana.
लम्बोदरश् च लम्बश्च लम्बाक्षो लम्बकेशकः सर्वज्ञः समबुद्धिश् च साध्यः सर्वस्तथैव च
He is Lambodara, Lamba, Lambākṣa, Lambakeśaka, all-knowing, even-minded, Sādhya, and likewise Sarva.
सुधामा काश्यपश्चैव वासिष्ठो विरजास् तथा अत्रिर् देवसदश्चैव श्रवणो ऽथ श्रविष्ठकः कुणिश् च कुणिबाहुश् च कुशरीरः कुनेत्रकः
Sudhāmā, Kāśyapa, Vāsiṣṭha, Virajā, Atri, Devasada, Śravaṇa, Śraviṣṭhaka, Kuṇi, Kuṇibāhu, Kuśarīra, and Kunetraka.
कश्यपो ऽप्युशनाश्चैव च्यवनो ऽथ बृहस्पतिः उतथ्यो वामदेवश् च महायोगो महाबलः
Kaśyapa, Uśanā, Cyavana, Bṛhaspati, Utathya, Vāmadeva, the great yogi, and the mighty one.
वाचश्रवाः सुधीकश्च श्यावाश्वश् च यतीश्वरः हिरण्यनाभः कौशल्यो लोगाक्षिः कुथुमिस् तथा
Vācaśravā, Sudhīka, Śyāvāśva, the lord of ascetics, Hiraṇyanābha, Kauśalya, Logākṣi, and Kuthumi as well.
सुमन्तुर्बर्बरी विद्वान् कबन्धः कुशिकंधरः प्लक्षो दाल्भ्यायणिश्चैव केतुमान् गोपनस् तथा
Sumantu, the wise Barbarī, Kabandha, Kuśikaṃdhara, Plakṣa, Dālbhyāyaṇi, Ketumān, and likewise Gopana.
भल्लावी मधुपिङ्गश्च श्वेतकेतुस्तपोनिधिः उशिको बृहदश्वश् च देवलः कविरेव च
Bhallāvī, Madhupiṅga, Śvetaketu, the treasure of austerity, Uśika, Bṛhadaśva, Devala, and the poet as well.
शालिहोत्रो ऽग्निवेशश्च युवनाश्वः शरद्वसुः छगलः कुण्डकर्णश् च कुम्भश्चैव प्रवाहकः
Śālihotra, Agniveśa, Yuvanāśva, Śaradvasu, Chagala, Kuṇḍakarṇa, Kumbha, and Pravāhaka.
उलूको विद्युतश्चैव मण्डूको ह्याश्वलायनः अक्षपादः कुमारश् च उलूको वत्स एव च
Ulūka, Vidyuta, Maṇḍūka, Āśvalāyana, Akṣapāda, Kumāra, Ulūka, and Vatsa as well.
कुशिकश्चैव गर्भश् च मित्रः कौरुष्य एव च शिष्यास्त्वेते महात्मानः सर्वावर्तेषु योगिनाम्
Kuśika, Garbha, Mitra, and Kauruṣya—these are the noble disciples among yogins in all traditions.
विमला ब्रह्मभूयिष्ठा ज्ञानयोगपरायणाः एते पाशुपताः सिद्धा भस्मोद्धूलितविग्रहाः
Pure, most established in Brahman, devoted to the path of knowledge and yoga—these accomplished Pāśupatas are covered in sacred ash.
शिष्याः प्रशिष्याश्चैतेषां शतशो ऽथ सहस्रशः प्राप्य पाशुपतं योगं रुद्रलोकाय संस्थिताः
Their disciples and grand-disciples, by the hundreds and thousands, having attained the Pāśupata yoga, are established in the realm of Rudra.
देवादयः पिशाचान्ताः पशवः परिकीर्तिताः तेषां पतित्वात्सर्वेशो भवः पशुपतिः स्मृतः
From gods down to piśācas, all creatures are spoken of as paśus; because he is their lord, Bhava is called Paśupati.
तेन प्रणीतो रुद्रेण पशूनां पतिना द्विजाः योगः पाशुपतो ज्ञेयः परावरविभूतये
This yoga, known as Pāśupata, was established by Rudra, the lord of beings, O twice-born, for the attainment of the highest and lowest powers.
संक्षेपतः प्रवक्ष्यामि योगस्थानानि साम्प्रतम् कल्पितानि शिवेनैव हिताय जगतां द्विजाः
Now, I will briefly explain the seats of yoga as established by Śiva himself for the welfare of the worlds, O twice-born.
गलादधो वितस्त्या यन् नाभेरुपरि चोत्तमम् योगस्थानमधो नाभेर् आवर्तं मध्यमं भ्रुवोः
That which is a span below the throat and above the navel is the highest seat of yoga; below the navel is the lower, and at the center of the brows is the middle.
सर्वार्थज्ञाननिष्पत्तिर् आत्मनो योग उच्यते एकाग्रता भवेच्चैव सर्वदा तत्प्रसादतः
The accomplishment of all knowledge for the self is called yoga; by his grace, one always attains one-pointedness.
प्रसादस्य स्वरूपं यत् स्वसंवेद्यं द्विजोत्तमाः वक्तुं न शक्यं ब्रह्माद्यैः क्रमशो जायते नृणाम्
The true nature of grace, which is self-experienced, O best of twice-born, cannot be described even by Brahmā and others; it arises gradually in people.
योगशब्देन निर्वाणं माहेशं पदमुच्यते तस्य हेतुरृषेर्ज्ञानं ज्ञानं तस्य प्रसादतः
By the word 'yoga' is meant the supreme state of Maheśa, called nirvāṇa; its cause is the seer's knowledge, and that knowledge comes by his grace.
ज्ञानेन निर्दहेत्पापं निरुध्य विषयान् सदा निरुद्धेन्द्रियवृत्तेस्तु योगसिद्धिर्भविष्यति
One should burn away sin through knowledge, always restraining the senses from their objects; from the restraint of sense activities, yoga perfection will arise.
योगो निरोधो वृत्तेषु चित्तस्य द्विजसत्तमाः साधनान्यष्टधा चास्य कथितानीह सिद्धये
Yoga is the restraint of the mind's activities, O best of twice-born; its means for attainment are described here as eightfold.
यमस्तु प्रथमः प्रोक्तो द्वितीयो नियमस् तथा तृतीयमासनं प्रोक्तं प्राणायामस्ततः परम्
Yama is declared as the first, niyama as the second; the third is posture, and then comes breath control as the fourth.
प्रत्याहारं पञ्चमो वै धारणा च ततः परा ध्यानं सप्तममित्युक्तं समाधिस्त्वष्टमः स्मृतः
Withdrawal is the fifth, then concentration as the next; meditation is said to be the seventh, and absorption is remembered as the eighth.
तपस्युपरमश्चैव यम इत्यभिधीयते अहिंसा प्रथमो हेतुर् यमस्य यमिनां वराः
Austerity and restraint are called yama; non-harming is the first cause of yama, O best of those who practice restraint.
सत्यमस्तेयमपरं ब्रह्मचर्यापरिग्रहौ नियमस्यापि वै मूलं यम एव न संशयः
Truthfulness, non-stealing, celibacy, and non-possessiveness are also the roots of niyama; indeed, yama is its foundation, without doubt.
