ब्रह्मोपेतश् च रक्षेन्द्रो यज्ञोपेतस्तथैव च एते देवादयः सर्वे वसन्त्यर्के क्रमेण तु
Brahmopeta, the lord of the Rakshasas, Yajñopeta likewise; all these deities and others reside in the sun in due order.
स्थानाभिमानिनो ह्येते गणा द्वादश सप्तकाः धात्रादिविष्णुपर्यन्ता देवा द्वादश कीर्तिताः
These are the twelve groups, each with seven members, presiding over their respective stations; the twelve deities from Dhata to Vishnu are thus proclaimed.
आदित्यं परमं भानुं भाभिराप्याययन्ति ते पुलस्त्याद्याः कौशिकान्ता मुनयो मुनिसत्तमाः
They, beginning with Pulastya and ending with Kaushika, the foremost sages, fill the supreme sun with their radiance.
द्वादशैव स्तवैर्भानुं स्तुवन्ति च यथाक्रमम् नागाश्चाश्वतरान्तास्तु वासुकिप्रमुखाः शुभाः
These twelve, in due order, praise the sun with hymns; and the auspicious serpents, from Vasuki to Ashvatara, do likewise.
द्वादशैव महादेवं वहन्त्येवं यथाक्रमम् क्रमेण सूर्यवर्चान्तास् तुम्बुरुप्रमुखाम्बुपम्
Twelve, indeed, bear the Great God in due order, ending with those radiant as the sun, with Tumburu and others at their head, like water-bearers.
गीतैरेनमुपासन्ते गन्धर्वा द्वादशोत्तमाः कृतस्थलाद्या रंभान्ता दिव्याश्चाप्सरसो रविम्
The twelve foremost Gandharvas, beginning with Kṛtasthala and ending with Rambhā, and the divine Apsarases, worship him with songs, as they do the sun.
ताण्डवैः सरसैः सर्वाश् चोपासन्ते यथाक्रमम् दिव्याः सत्यजिदन्ताश् च ग्रामण्यो रथकृन्मुखाः
All the divine leaders, beginning with Satyajit and ending with Rathakṛt, worship him in due order with graceful Tāṇḍava dances.
द्वादशास्य क्रमेणैव कुर्वते ऽभीषुसंग्रहम् प्रयान्ति यज्ञोपेतान्ता रक्षोहेतिमुखाः सह
In the same order, twelve-faced beings gather their weapons, and those led by Rakṣoheti, who are devoted to sacrifice, proceed together.
सायुधा द्वादशैवैते राक्षसाश्च यथाक्रमम् धातार्यमा पुलस्त्यश् च पुलहश् च प्रजापतिः
These twelve, armed as well, are Rākṣasas in due order: Dhātā, Aryaman, Pulastya, Pulaha, and Prajāpati.
उरगो वासुकिश्चैव कङ्कणीकश् च तावुभौ तुम्बुरुर् नारदश्चैव गन्धर्वौ गायतां वरौ
Uraga and Vāsuki, and also Kaṅkaṇīka—these two; Tumburu and Nārada, the two foremost Gandharvas in singing.
कृतस्थलाप्सराश्चैव तथा वै पुञ्जिकस्थला ग्रामणी रथकृच्चैव रथौजाश्चैव तावुभौ
Kṛtasthala and Puñjikasthalā among the Apsarases, Grāmaṇī and Rathakṛt, and also the two Rathojas.
रक्षोहेतिः प्रहेतिश् च यातुधानावुदाहृतौ मधुमाधवयोरेष गणो वसति भास्करे
Rakṣoheti and Praheti, named among the Yātudhānas; this group of Madhumādhava dwells in the sun.
वसन्ति ग्रीष्मकौ मासौ मित्रश् च वरुणश् च ह ऋषिरत्रिर्वसिष्ठश् च तक्षको नाग एव च
The two summer months dwell there, along with Mitra and Varuṇa, the sages Atri and Vasiṣṭha, and Takṣaka, the serpent.
मेनका सहजन्या च गन्धर्वौ च हाहाहूहूः सुबाहुनामा ग्रामण्यौ रथचित्रश् च तावुभौ
Menakā and Sahajanyā, and the Gandharvas Hāhā and Hūhū; Subāhu by name, the two Grāmaṇīs, and the two Rathacitra.
पौरुषेयो वधश्चैव यातुधानावुदाहृतौ एते वसन्ति वै सूर्ये मासयोः शुचिशुक्रयोः
Pauruṣeya and Vadha, named among the Yātudhānas—these dwell in the sun during the two months Śuci and Śukra.
ततः सूर्ये पुनश्चान्या निवसन्तीह देवताः इन्द्रश्चैव विवस्वांश् च अङ्गिरा भृगुरेव च
Then again, other deities dwell in the sun: Indra, Vivasvān, Aṅgirā, and also Bhṛgu.
एलापत्रस् तथा सर्पः शङ्खपालश् च तावुभौ विश्वावसूग्रसेनौ च वरुणश् च रथस्वनः
Elāpatra and the serpent, Śaṅkhapāla—these two; Viśvāvasu and Ugrasena, Varuṇa, and Rathasvana.
प्रम्लोचा चैव विख्याता अनुम्लोचा च ते उभे यातुधानास् तथा सर्पो व्याघ्रश्चैव तु तावुभौ
Pramlocā, renowned, and Anumlocā—these two; likewise Yātudhānas, a serpent, and Vyāghra—these two as well.
नभोनभस्ययोरेष गणो वसति भास्करे पर्जन्यश्चैव पूषा च भरद्वाजो ऽथ गौतमः
This group of Nabha and Nabhasya months dwells in the sun: Parjanya, Pūṣā, Bharadvāja, and Gautama.
धनञ्जय इरावांश् च सुरुचिः सपरावसुः घृताची चाप्सरःश्रेष्ठा विश्वाची चातिशोभना
Dhanañjaya and Irāvān, Suruci and Aparāvasu, Ghṛtācī, the foremost Apsaras, and Viśvācī, exceedingly beautiful.
सेनजिच्च सुषेणश् च सेनानीर् ग्रामणीश् च तौ आपो वातश् च तावेतौ यातुधानावुभौ स्मृतौ
Senajit and Suṣeṇa, the two commanders and Grāmaṇīs; the two, Āpa and Vāta, and the two Yātudhānas are remembered.
वसन्त्येते तु वै सूर्ये मास ऊर्ज इषे च ह हैमन्तिकौ तु द्वौ मासौ वसन्ति च दिवाकरे
These indeed dwell in the sun during the months Ūrja and Iṣa; and the two winter months also dwell in the sun.
अंशुर्भगश् च द्वावेतौ कश्यपश् च क्रतुः सह भुजङ्गश् च महापद्मः सर्पः कर्कोटकस् तथा
Aṃśu and Bhaga, these two, along with Kaśyapa and Kratu, and the serpent Mahāpadma, as well as the serpent Karkoṭaka.
चित्रसेनश् च गन्धर्व ऊर्णायुश्चैव तावुभौ उर्वशी पूर्वचित्तिश् च तथैवाप्सरसावुभे
And Citraseṇa the Gandharva, and Ūrṇāyu, both of them; Urvaśī and Pūrvacitti, likewise both Apsarases.
तार्क्ष्यश्चारिष्टनेमिश् च सेनानीर् ग्रामणीश् च तौ विद्युद्दिवाकरश्चोभौ यातुधानावुदाहृतौ
Tārkṣya and Ariṣṭanemi, and the two commanders and leaders of hosts; Vidyut and Divākara, both called Yātudhānas.
सहे चैव सहस्ये च वसन्त्येते दिवाकरे ततः शैशिरयोश्चापि मासयोर् निवसन्ति वै
Together with Sahe and Sahasya, these dwell in the Sun; then, in the months of Śaiśira, they also reside.
त्वष्टा विष्णुर्जमदग्निर् विश्वामित्रस्तथैव च काद्रवेयौ तथा नागौ कम्बलाश्वतरावुभौ
Tvaṣṭṛ, Viṣṇu, Jamadagni, and Viśvāmitra as well; the two Nāgas born of Kadrū, Kambala and Aśvatara, both.
धृतराष्ट्रः सगन्धर्वः सूर्यवर्चास्तथैव च तिलोत्तमाप्सराश्चैव देवी रंभा मनोहरा
Dhṛtarāṣṭra with the Gandharva, and Sūryavarcas likewise; the Apsaras Tilottamā, and the goddess Rambhā, enchanting.
रथजित्सत्यजिच्चैव ग्रामण्यौ लोकविश्रुतौ ब्रह्मोपेतस् तथा रक्षो यज्ञोपेतश् च यः स्मृतः
Rathajit and Satyajit, the two renowned leaders of hosts; one endowed with Brahman, and the other, known as Yajñopeta, a Rākṣasa.
एते देवा वसन्त्यर्के द्वौ द्वौ मासौ क्रमेण तु स्थानाभिमानिनो ह्येते गणा द्वादश सप्तकाः
These gods dwell in the Sun, two by two, each for two months in turn; these are the twelve groups of seven, each presiding over their station.
