उत्तरे नैगमेयस्य कुमारस्य च पूर्वतः अरुणोदस्य पूर्वेण शैलेन्द्रा नामतः स्मृताः

To the north is the domain of Naigameya, and to the east that of Kumara; east of Arunodha are the mountains called Shailendra.

तांस्तु संक्षेपतो वक्ष्ये न शक्यं विस्तरेण तु सितान्तश् च कुरण्डश् च कुररश्चाचलोत्तमः

I will briefly describe them, for it is not possible to do so in detail: Sitanta, Kuranda, Kurara, and the excellent mountain Achala.

विकरो मणिशैलश् च वृक्षवांश्चाचलोत्तमः महानीलो ऽथ रुचकः सबिन्दुर्दर्दुरस् तथा

Vikara, Manishaila, Vrkshavan, the excellent mountain Achala, Mahaniila, Rucaka, Sabindu, and Dardura likewise.

वेणुमांश् च समेघश् च निषधो देवपर्वतः इत्येते पर्वतवरा ह्य् अन्ये च गिरयस् तथा

Venuman, Samegha, Nishadha, the divine mountain; these are the foremost mountains, and there are other mountains as well.

पूर्वेण मन्दरस्यैते सिद्धावासा उदाहृताः तेषु तेषु गिरीन्द्रेषु गुहासु च वनेषु च

To the east of Mandara, these are declared as the abodes of the Siddhas; in each of these great mountains, in caves and forests,

रुद्रक्षेत्राणि दिव्यानि विष्णोर्नारायणस्य च सरसो मानसस्येह दक्षिणेन महाचलाः

There are divine Rudra-fields, and those of Vishnu and Narayana; south of the lake Manasa are the great mountains.

ये कीर्त्यमानास्तान्सर्वान् संक्षिप्य प्रवदाम्यहम् शैलश् च विशिराश्चैव शिखरश्चाचलोत्तमः

All those mentioned, I will now briefly recount: Shaila, Vishira, and Shikhara, the excellent mountain Achala.

एकशृङ्गो महाशूलो गजशैलः पिशाचकः पञ्चशैलो ऽथ कैलासो हिमवांश्चाचलोत्तमः

Eka-shringa, Mahashula, Gaja-shaila, Pishachaka, Panchashaila, Kailasa, and the excellent mountain Himavan.

इत्येते देवचरिता उत्कटाः पर्वतोत्तमाः तेषु तेषु च सर्वेषु पर्वतेषु वनेषु च

Thus, these are the exalted, divine mountains, renowned for their greatness; in each of these mountains and forests,

रुद्रक्षेत्राणि दिव्यानि स्थापितानि सुरोत्तमैः दिग्भागे दक्षिणे प्रोक्ताः पश्चिमे च वदामि वः

Divine Rudra-fields have been established by the best of gods; I have spoken of those in the southern direction, now I will tell you of those in the west.

अपरेण सितोदश् च सुरपश् च महाबलः कुमुदो मधुमांश्चैव ह्य् अञ्जनो मुकुटस् तथा

Further, Sitoda, Surapa the mighty, Kumuda, Madhuman, Anjana, and Mukuta likewise.

कृष्णश् च पाण्डुरश्चैव सहस्रशिखरश् च यः पारिजातश् च शैलेन्द्रः श्रीशृङ्गश्चाचलोत्तमः

Krishna, Pandura, Sahasrashikhara, Parijata, Shailendra, and the excellent mountain Shri-shringa.

इत्येते देवचरिता उत्कटाः पर्वतोत्तमाः सर्वे पश्चिमदिग्भागे रुद्रक्षेत्रसमन्विताः

Thus, these are the exalted, divine mountains, all situated in the western direction, endowed with Rudra-fields.

महाभद्रस्य सरसश् चोत्तरे च महाबलाः ये स्थिताः कीर्त्यमानांस्तान् संक्षिप्येह निबोधत

To the north of the lake Mahabhadra are the mighty ones; those who are mentioned, I will now briefly recount, listen.

शङ्खकूटो महाशैलो वृषभो हंसपर्वतः नागश् च कपिलश्चैव इन्द्रशैलश् च सानुमान्

Shankhakuta the great mountain, Vrishabha, Hamsa mountain, Naga, Kapila, and Indrashaila with its peaks.

नीलः कण्टकशृङ्गश् च शतशृङ्गश् च पर्वतः पुष्पकोशः प्रशैलश् च विरजश्चाचलोत्तमः

Nīla, Kaṇṭakaśṛṅga, Śataśṛṅga, Parvata, Puṣpakośa, Praśaila, and Viraja are the foremost immovable mountains.

वराहपर्वतश्चैव मयूरश्चाचलोत्तमः जारुधिश्चैव शैलेन्द्र एत उत्तरसंस्थिताः

Varāha mountain, Mayūra the great peak, and Jārudhi, the lord of mountains—these are situated in the north.

तेषु शैलेषु दिव्येषु देवदेवस्य शूलिनः असंख्यातानि दिव्यानि विमानानि सहस्रशः

Upon these divine mountains of the trident-bearing Lord of gods, there are countless celestial aerial palaces by the thousands.

एतेषां शैलमुख्यानाम् अन्तरेषु यथाक्रमम् सन्ति चैवान्तरद्रोण्यः सरांस्युपवनानि च

Between these chief mountains, in due order, there are inner valleys, lakes, and groves.

वसन्ति देवा मुनयः सिद्धाश् च शिवभाविताः कृतवासाः सपत्नीकाः प्रसादात्परमेष्ठिनः

Gods, sages, and perfected beings devoted to Śiva dwell there, having made their abodes with their wives by the grace of the Supreme Lord.

लक्ष्म्याद्यानां बिल्ववने ककुभे कश्यपादयः तथा तालवने प्रोक्तम् इन्द्रोपेन्द्रोरगात्मनाम्

Kashyapa and others reside in the Bilva forest with Lakṣmī and the rest; likewise, in the Tāla grove dwell those called Indra, Upendra, and serpent-souled beings.

उदुंबरे कर्दमस्य तथान्येषां महात्मनाम् विद्याधराणां सिद्धानां पुण्ये त्वाम्रवने शुभे

In the Udumbara grove is Kardama, and other great souls; in the auspicious and holy Amra grove dwell Vidyādharas and Siddhas.

नागानां सिद्धसंघानां तथा निंबवने स्थितिः सूर्यस्य किंशुकवने तथा रुद्रगणस्य च

Nāgas and groups of Siddhas reside in the Nimba grove; Sūrya dwells in the Kiṃśuka grove, as do the hosts of Rudra.

बीजपूरवने पुण्ये देवाचार्यो व्यवस्थितः कौमुदे तु वने विष्णुप्रमुखानां महात्मनाम्

In the sacred Bījapūra grove is established the divine preceptor; in the Kaumudī grove are the great souls led by Viṣṇu.

स्थलपद्मवनान्तस्थन्यग्रोधे ऽशेषभोगिनः शेषस्त्वशेषजगतां पतिरास्ते ऽतिगर्वितः

Within the Sthalapadma grove, beneath the Nyagrodha tree, dwell all the serpents; Śeṣa, the proud lord of all worlds, abides there.

स एव जगतां कालः पाताले च व्यवस्थितः विष्णोर्विश्वगुरोर्मूर्तिर् दिव्यः साक्षाद्धलायुधः

He alone is Time for all worlds, established in the netherworld; he is the divine, manifest form of Viṣṇu, the universal teacher, bearing the plough as his weapon.

शयनं देवदेवस्य स हरेः कङ्कणं विभोः वने पनसवृक्षाणां सशुक्रा दानवादयः

That is the resting place of the Lord of gods; it is the bracelet of Hari the mighty. In the grove of Panasa trees dwell the Dānavas and others, along with Śukra.

किन्नरैरुरगाश्चैव विशाखकवने स्थिताः मनोहरवने वृक्षाः सर्वकोटिसमन्विताः

Kinnaras and serpents reside in the Viśākhaka grove; in the Manohara grove are trees endowed with all varieties.

नन्दीश्वरो गणवरैः स्तूयमानो व्यवस्थितः संतानकस्थलीमध्ये साक्षाद्देवी सरस्वती

Nandīśvara stands there, praised by the hosts of Gaṇas; in the midst of the Saṃtānaka grove, the goddess Sarasvatī herself is present.
