कुसुमोत्तरस्य वै वर्षं पञ्चमं कुसुमोत्तरम् मोदकं चापि मोदाकेर् वर्षं षष्ठं प्रकीर्तितम्
The fifth region, Kusumottara, is named after Kusumottara; the sixth, Modāka, is proclaimed as Modāka's region.
महाद्रुमस्य नाम्ना तु सप्तमं तन्महाद्रुमम् तेषां तु नामभिस्तानि सप्त वर्षाणि तत्र वै
The seventh, called Mahādruma, is named after Mahādruma; thus, these seven regions there bear their names.
क्रौञ्चद्वीपेश्वरस्यापि पुत्रा द्युतिमतस्तु वै कुशलो मनुगश्चोष्णः पीवरश्चान्धकारकः
The sons of Dyutimat, the lord of Krauñcadvīpa, were Kuśala, Manuga, Uṣṇa, Pīvara, Andhakāraka,
मुनिश्च दुन्दुभिश्चैव सुता द्युतिमतस्तु वै तेषां स्वनामभिर् देशाः क्रौञ्चद्वीपाश्रयाः शुभाः
Muni and Dundubhi were also sons of Dyutimat; the auspicious regions of Krauñcadvīpa are named after them.
कुशलदेशः कुशले मनुगस्य मनोनुगः उष्णस्योष्णः स्मृतो देशः पीवरः पीवरस्य च
Kuśala's region is called Kuśala; Manuga's is Manonuga; Uṣṇa's is known as Uṣṇa; Pīvara's is Pīvara.
अन्धकारस्य कथितो देशो नाम्नान्धकारकः मुनेर्देशो मुनिः प्रोक्तो दुन्दुभेर् दुन्दुभिः स्मृतः
Andhakāraka's region is called Andhakāraka by name; Muni's is called Muni, and Dundubhi's is known as Dundubhi.
एते जनपदाः सप्त क्रौञ्चद्वीपेषु भास्वराः ज्योतिष्मन्तः कुशद्वीपे सप्त चासन्महौजसः
These seven illustrious peoples dwell in Krauñcadvīpa; and in Kuśadvīpa, there are also seven of great might.
उद्भिदो वेणुमांश्चैव द्वैरथो लवणो धृतिः षष्ठः प्रभाकरश्चापि सप्तमः कपिलः स्मृतः
Udbhida, Veṇumān, Dvairatha, Lavaṇa, Dhṛti, Prabhākara as the sixth, and the seventh is known as Kapila.
उद्भिदं प्रथमं वर्षं द्वितीयं वेणुमण्डलम् तृतीयं द्वैरथं चैव चतुर्थं लवणं स्मृतम्
The first region is Udbhida, the second is Veṇumaṇḍala; the third is Dvairatha, and the fourth is called Lavaṇa.
पञ्चमं धृतिमत् षष्ठं प्रभाकरम् अनुत्तमम् सप्तमं कपिलं नाम कपिलस्य प्रकीर्तितम्
The fifth is Dhṛtimat, the sixth is Prabhākara, unsurpassed; the seventh, named Kapila, is proclaimed as Kapila's.
शाल्मलस्येश्वराः सप्त सुतास्ते वै वपुष्मतः श्वेतश् च हरितश्चैव जीमूतो रोहितस् तथा
The seven lords of Śālmaladvīpa were the sons of Vapuṣmat: Śveta, Harita, Jīmūta, Rohita,
वैद्युतो मानसश्चैव सुप्रभः सप्तमस् तथा श्वेतस्य देशः श्वेतस्तु हरितस्य च हारितः
Vaidyuta, Mānasā, and the seventh, Suprabha; the region of Śveta belonged to Śveta, and Hārita to Harita.
जीमूतस्य च जीमूतो रोहितस्य च रोहितः वैद्युतो वैद्युतस्यापि मानसस्य च मानसः
Jīmūta to Jīmūta, Rohita to Rohita, Vaidyuta to Vaidyuta, and Mānasā to Mānasā.
सुप्रभः सुप्रभस्यापि सप्त वै देशलाञ्छकाः प्लक्षद्वीपे तु वक्ष्यामि जम्बूद्वीपादनन्तरम्
Suprabha to Suprabha; thus, the seven regions are marked by their names. Now I will speak of Plakṣadvīpa, after Jambūdvīpa.
सप्त मेधातिथेः पुत्राः प्लक्षद्वीपेश्वरा नृपाः ज्येष्ठः शान्तभयस्तेषां सप्तवर्षाणि तानि वै
The seven sons of Medhātithi were the kings, lords of Plakṣadvīpa; the eldest among them was Śāntabhaya, and these are the seven regions.
तस्माच्छान्तभयाच्चैव शिशिरस्तु सुखोदयः आनन्दश् च शिवश्चैव क्षेमकश् च ध्रुवस् तथा
From Śāntabhaya came Śiśira, Sukhodaya, Ānanda, Śiva, Kṣemaka, and also Dhruva.
तानि तेषां तु नामानि सप्तवर्षाणि भागशः निवेशितानि तैस्तानि पूर्वं स्वायंभुवे ऽन्तरे
These are their names, the seven regions, each established separately by them in the former Svāyambhuva Manvantara.
मेधातिथेस्तु पुत्रैस्तैः प्लक्षद्वीपनिवासिभिः वर्णाश्रमाचारयुताः प्रजास्तत्र निवेशिताः
By those sons of Medhātithi, the inhabitants of Plakṣadvīpa were settled there, endowed with the practices of varṇa and āśrama.
प्लक्षद्वीपादिवर्षेषु शाकद्वीपान्तिकेषु वै ज्ञेयः पञ्चसु धर्मो वै वर्णाश्रमविभागशः
In the regions of Plakṣadvīpa and those near Śākadvīpa, the dharma is known to be fivefold, according to the divisions of varṇa and āśrama.
सुखमायुः स्वरूपं च बलं धर्मो द्विजोत्तमाः पञ्चस्वेतेषु द्वीपेषु सर्वसाधारणं स्मृतम्
Happiness, long life, their own form, strength, and dharma, O best of twice-born, are considered common to all these five islands.
रुद्रार्चनरता नित्यं महेश्वरपरायणाः अन्ये च पुष्करद्वीपे प्रजाताश् च प्रजेश्वराः
Devoted always to the worship of Rudra, dedicated to Maheśvara, and others born in Puṣkaradvīpa, are the lords of the people.
प्रजापतेश् च रुद्रस्य भावामृतसुखोत्कटाः
And the people of Prajāpati and Rudra are filled with the bliss of devotion.
आग्नीध्रं ज्येष्ठदायादं काम्यपुत्रं महाबलम् प्रियव्रतो ऽभ्यषिञ्चद्वै जंबूद्वीपेश्वरं नृपः
Āgnīdhra, the eldest and mighty son of Kāmyā, was anointed by Priyavrata as the lord of Jambūdvīpa.
सो ऽतीव भवभक्तश् च तपस्वी तरुणः सदा भवार्चनरतः श्रीमान् गोमान्धीमान्द्विजर्षभाः
He was exceedingly devoted to Bhava, ever youthful, steadfast in austerity, always engaged in the worship of Bhava, glorious, and accompanied by Gomān, Dhīmān, and the best of twice-born.
तस्य पुत्रा बभूवुस्ते प्रजापतिसमा नव सर्वे माहेश्वराश्चैव महादेवपरायणाः
He had nine sons, equal to Prajāpati, all devoted to Maheśvara and dedicated to Mahādeva.
ज्येष्ठो नाभिर् इति ख्यातस् तस्य किंपुरुषो ऽनुजः हरिवर्षस्तृतीयस्तु चतुर्थो वै त्विलावृतः
The eldest was known as Nābhi; his younger brother was Kiṃpuruṣa; the third was Harivarṣa, and the fourth was Ilāvṛta.
रम्यस्तु पञ्चमस् तत्र हिरण्मान् षष्ठ उच्यते कुरुस्तु सप्तमस्तेषां भद्राश्वस्त्वष्टमः स्मृतः
The fifth was Ramya, the sixth is called Hiraṇmān, the seventh was Kuru, the eighth was Bhadrāśva.
नवमः केतुमालस्तु तेषां देशान्निबोधत नाभेस्तु दक्षिणं वर्षं हेमाख्यं तु पिता ददौ
The ninth was Ketumāla; now hear of their regions. To Nābhi, the southern region called Hema was given by their father.
हेमकूटं तु यद्वर्षं ददौ किंपुरुषाय सः नैषधं यत्स्मृतं वर्षं हरये तत्पिता ददौ
He gave the region called Hemakūṭa to Kiṃpuruṣa, and the region known as Naiṣadha was given by his father to Hari.
इलावृताय प्रददौ मेरुर्यत्र तु मध्यमः नीलाचलाश्रितं वर्षं रम्याय प्रददौ पिता
He gave Ilāvṛta, where Meru stands in the center, and the delightful region at the base of Nīlācalā to his son.
