तेनैव सृष्टमखिलं धृतं रक्षितमेव च संहृतं देवदेवस्य प्रसादात्परमेष्ठिनः
By him alone, all is created, sustained, and protected, and dissolved too—by the grace of the supreme Lord of gods.
सुषेणा इति विख्याता यजन्ते पुरुषर्षभम् अनिरुद्धं मुनिश्रेष्ठाः शङ्खचक्रगदाधरम्
Known as Suṣeṇa, the best of sages worship the supreme person Aniruddha, who bears the conch, discus, and mace.
ये चानिरुद्धं पुरुषं ध्यायन्त्यात्मविदां वराः नारायणसमाः सर्वे सर्वसंपत्समन्विताः
And those best among knowers of the self who meditate on Aniruddha, the person, are all equal to Nārāyaṇa, endowed with every prosperity.
सनन्दनश् च भगवान् सनकश् च सनातनः वालखिल्याश् च सिद्धाश् च मित्रावरुणकौ तथा
Sanandana, the Blessed One, Sanaka, Sanātana, the Vālakhilya sages, the Siddhas, and also Mitra and Varuṇa—
यजन्ति सततं तत्र विश्वस्य प्रभवं हरिम् सप्तद्वीपेषु तिष्ठन्ति नानाशृङ्गा महोदयाः
They constantly worship Hari, the source of the universe, there; in the seven islands stand many great peaks with various summits.
आसमुद्रायताः केचिद् गिरयो गह्वरैस् तथा धरायाः पतयश्चासन् बहवः कालगौरवात्
Some mountains extend as far as the ocean, with caves as well; many lords of the earth have existed, due to the weight of time.
सामर्थ्यात्परमेशानाः क्रौञ्चारेर्जनकात्प्रभोः मन्वन्तरेषु सर्वेषु अतीतानागतेष्विह
By the power of the supreme lords, from the progenitor of Krauñca's enemy, in all the past and future manvantaras, here—
प्रवक्ष्यामि धरेशान् वो वक्ष्ये स्वायंभुवे ऽन्तरे मन्वन्तरेषु सर्वेषु अतीतानागतेषु च
I shall declare to you the lords of the earth; I will tell of them in the Svāyambhuva manvantara, and in all the past and future manvantaras.
तुल्याभिमानिनश्चैव सर्वे तुल्यप्रयोजनाः स्वायंभुवस्य च मनोः पौत्रास्त्वासन्महाबलाः
All of them were equally proud and had the same purpose; the grandsons of Svāyambhuva Manu were mighty.
प्रियव्रतात्मजा वीरास् ते दशेह प्रकीर्तिताः आग्नीध्रश्चाग्निबाहुश् च मेधा मेधातिथिर्वसुः
The heroic sons of Priyavrata are named here: Āgnīdhra, Agnibāhu, Medha, Medhātithi, and Vasu.
ज्योतिष्मान्द्युतिमान् हव्यः सवनः पुत्र एव च प्रियव्रतो ऽभ्यषिञ्चत्तान् सप्त सप्तसु पार्थिवान्
Jyotiṣmān, Dyutimān, Havya, Savana—these are also sons; Priyavrata anointed them, seven as rulers over the seven lands.
जम्बूद्वीपेश्वरं चक्रे आग्नीध्रं सुमहाबलम् प्लक्षद्वीपेश्वरश्चापि तेन मेधातिथिः कृतः
He made Āgnīdhra, of great might, lord of Jambūdvīpa; and Medhātithi was made lord of Plakṣadvīpa by him.
शाल्मलेश् च वपुष्मन्तं राजानमभिषिक्तवान् ज्योतिष्मन्तं कुशद्वीपे राजानं कृतवान्नृपः
He anointed Śālmala, who was endowed with beauty, as king, and in Kuśadvīpa, the king established Jyotiṣmat as ruler.
द्युतिमन्तं च राजानं क्रौञ्चद्वीपे समादिशत् शाकद्वीपेश्वरं चापि हव्यं चक्रे प्रियव्रतः
He appointed Dyutimat as king in Krauñcadvīpa, and Priyavrata also made Havya the lord of Śākadvīpa.
पुष्कराधिपतिं चक्रे सवनं चापि सुव्रताः पुष्करे सवनस्यापि महावीतः सुतो ऽभवत्
He made Savana, who was steadfast in vows, the lord of Puṣkara; and in Puṣkara, Savana's son Mahāvīta was born.
धातकी चैव द्वावेतौ पुत्रौ पुत्रवतां वरौ महावीतं स्मृतं वर्षं तस्य नाम्ना महात्मनः
Dhātakī and Mahāvīta, both excellent among sons, were his two sons; the region was named Mahāvīta after that great soul.
नाम्ना तु धातकेश्चैव धातकीखण्डमुच्यते हव्यो ऽप्यजनयत् पुत्राञ् छाकद्वीपेश्वरः प्रभुः
And by name, Dhātakī's region is called Dhātakīkhaṇḍa; and Havya, the lord of Śākadvīpa, also begot sons.
जलदं च कुमारं च सुकुमारं मणीचकम् कुसुमोत्तरमोदाकी सप्तमस्तु महाद्रुमः
Jalada, Kumāra, Sukumāra, Maṇīcaka, Kusumottara, Modāka, and the seventh, Mahādruma, were his sons.
अलदं जलदस्याथ वर्षं प्रथममुच्यते कुमारस्य तु कौमारं द्वितीयं परिकीर्तितम्
The first region, named Alada, is said to belong to Jalada; the second, called Kaumāra, is attributed to Kumāra.
सुकुमारं तृतीयं तु सुकुमारस्य कीर्त्यते मणीचकं चतुर्थं तु माणीचकमिहोच्यते
The third, Sukumāra, is known as Sukumāra's region; the fourth, Maṇīcaka, is here called Māṇīcaka.
कुसुमोत्तरस्य वै वर्षं पञ्चमं कुसुमोत्तरम् मोदकं चापि मोदाकेर् वर्षं षष्ठं प्रकीर्तितम्
The fifth region, Kusumottara, is named after Kusumottara; the sixth, Modāka, is proclaimed as Modāka's region.
महाद्रुमस्य नाम्ना तु सप्तमं तन्महाद्रुमम् तेषां तु नामभिस्तानि सप्त वर्षाणि तत्र वै
The seventh, called Mahādruma, is named after Mahādruma; thus, these seven regions there bear their names.
क्रौञ्चद्वीपेश्वरस्यापि पुत्रा द्युतिमतस्तु वै कुशलो मनुगश्चोष्णः पीवरश्चान्धकारकः
The sons of Dyutimat, the lord of Krauñcadvīpa, were Kuśala, Manuga, Uṣṇa, Pīvara, Andhakāraka,
मुनिश्च दुन्दुभिश्चैव सुता द्युतिमतस्तु वै तेषां स्वनामभिर् देशाः क्रौञ्चद्वीपाश्रयाः शुभाः
Muni and Dundubhi were also sons of Dyutimat; the auspicious regions of Krauñcadvīpa are named after them.
कुशलदेशः कुशले मनुगस्य मनोनुगः उष्णस्योष्णः स्मृतो देशः पीवरः पीवरस्य च
Kuśala's region is called Kuśala; Manuga's is Manonuga; Uṣṇa's is known as Uṣṇa; Pīvara's is Pīvara.
अन्धकारस्य कथितो देशो नाम्नान्धकारकः मुनेर्देशो मुनिः प्रोक्तो दुन्दुभेर् दुन्दुभिः स्मृतः
Andhakāraka's region is called Andhakāraka by name; Muni's is called Muni, and Dundubhi's is known as Dundubhi.
एते जनपदाः सप्त क्रौञ्चद्वीपेषु भास्वराः ज्योतिष्मन्तः कुशद्वीपे सप्त चासन्महौजसः
These seven illustrious peoples dwell in Krauñcadvīpa; and in Kuśadvīpa, there are also seven of great might.
उद्भिदो वेणुमांश्चैव द्वैरथो लवणो धृतिः षष्ठः प्रभाकरश्चापि सप्तमः कपिलः स्मृतः
Udbhida, Veṇumān, Dvairatha, Lavaṇa, Dhṛti, Prabhākara as the sixth, and the seventh is known as Kapila.
उद्भिदं प्रथमं वर्षं द्वितीयं वेणुमण्डलम् तृतीयं द्वैरथं चैव चतुर्थं लवणं स्मृतम्
The first region is Udbhida, the second is Veṇumaṇḍala; the third is Dvairatha, and the fourth is called Lavaṇa.
पञ्चमं धृतिमत् षष्ठं प्रभाकरम् अनुत्तमम् सप्तमं कपिलं नाम कपिलस्य प्रकीर्तितम्
The fifth is Dhṛtimat, the sixth is Prabhākara, unsurpassed; the seventh, named Kapila, is proclaimed as Kapila's.
