With deep reverence, salutations are offered to the Lord of the senses, he who licks, whose form is adorned with garlands, who is all-pervading and of universal form, whose head is everywhere. Homage is paid to him whose hands and feet are everywhere, to Rudra, the incomparable one, who himself is the oblation, the ancestral offering, and the carrier of the sacred fire’s gifts. Praise is given to the accomplished, the pure, the one desired by all, who stands beyond sacrifice, the mighty hero, terribly fierce and yet unshakable, and who by his very presence shakes all creation. He is the father of excellent offspring, radiant with great wisdom, shining like the sun, ever-awakened, pure, expansive, and wise. He is both gross and subtle, visible and invisible in all things. He is the one who brings rain, who blazes as fire, who moves as the wind, and who cools as the gentle breeze. Homage is offered to him with curling hair, with mighty thighs and chest, to the golden one, whose splendor is like heated gold. Salutations go to him with odd eyes, to the emblem, to the tawny one of great energy, to the destroyer of rain, and to the gentle-eyed. He is smoky, white, black, and red; fleshy, tawny, yellow, and the one who bears a sword. He is both with distinctions and without, worshipped and revered, the support of all. He is secure, aged, affectionate; the eternal being, the true, and the one who is both truth and untruth. He is lotus-hued, the destroyer of death and death itself, fair, dark, tawny, and red. His color is that of the great twilight cloud, his radiance beautiful, the initiated one, with lotus hands, sky-clad, and matted-haired. He is immeasurable, the all, imperishable, immortal; he is form, fragrance, eternal, and unbroken. He is the vast one from before, the wandering, the accomplished, difficult to reach, the great lord, wrathful, and tawny. His body is both conceivable and inconceivable, strong and swift; he is sandy, flowing, stable, and expansive. He is wise, the potter, the one with a crescent moon, variegated, of wondrous attire and many colors, intelligent. He is perceptive, content, hidden, patient, restrained, and with adamantine jaws. He is the destroyer of demons and poison, blue-throated, with upraised wrath. He licks, he is Death, the bearer of sharp weapons. He is joyful, delighting, to be known by sacrifice, free from disease, the all, the great Time. He is Lord of the sacred syllable and its sound, destroyer of Bhaga’s eye, hunter of the deer, Daksha, and destroyer of Daksha’s sacrifice. He is the soul of all beings, surpassing all lords, destroyer of cities, wielder of excellent weapons, archer, and bearer of the axe. He is the destroyer of Pusha’s teeth, fulfiller of desires, the most excellent, the burner of the body of Desire. On the stage of the universe, he appears with a fierce face, the face of the lord of serpents, ender of demons, the one who causes their cries. He is the destroyer of snow, the sharp one, the wearer of moist hides, ever delighted in the cremation ground, bearer of a massive mouth. He is the protector of life, wearer of a garland of skulls, surrounded by various beings freed from sorrow. His form is both man and woman, he brings joy to the goddess, is matted-haired, skull-bearer, and wears a serpent as sacred thread. He is the lover of dance, delighting in the company of dancers, passionate, lover of song, praised by sages in song. He is rattling, sharp, unpleasant and pleasant, terrifying, formidable, destroyer of Bhaga. Hosts of perfected beings praise him; he is greatly fortunate, with a resounding, liberated laugh, who snorts and cracks. He roars and leaps; his spirit is gladdened. He is gracious, who breathes, runs, and presides. He meditates and yawns, weeps and melts, leaps and plays; his form is large-bellied. He is both uncreated and created, skull-bearer, dark, with a mad form, adorned with bells. He wears strange attire, fierce and unyielding, immeasurable, protector, radiant, and beyond all qualities. He is the beloved of the left, the leftward one, wearer of the crest-jewel, slender, and of immeasurable virtues. He is virtuous, mysterious, moving in the unapproachable; supporter of the worlds, with the earth as his feet, honored by the good. His belly is the foundation of all attainments and yogas; in the middle is the vast sky, adorned with clusters of stars. Like the path of Swati, the splendid necklace shines on his chest; the ten directions are his arms, adorned with armlets and bracelets. His neck, broad and thick, shines splendidly, resembling a mass of dark collyrium, adorned with a golden thread. His face is fierce with protruding fangs, unconquerable and incomparable; his head, crowned with a garland of lotuses, outshines even the heavens.
