Just as the mighty mountain Meru is renowned as the realm of the gods, so too should you recognize the immense greatness of the supreme deity. Understand the true nature of the Lord, and know me—the lotus-eyed—who is Mahādeva, the great being, the bestower of boons, and master of all creatures. With the sacred syllable Oṃ and the hymns of the Sāman, bowing to the teacher of the world, both you and I, if provoked, possess the power to burn this world with our breath. Having realized this profound yoga, rising up in great strength, I shall place you at the forefront and together we will praise the one whose radiance is like blazing fire. Then, placing Brahmā at the head, he who bears the Garuḍa banner, accompanied by those from the past, present, and future, began a hymn. Using names and Vedic meters, he declared: "Salutations to you, O blessed one, of excellent vows and infinite splendor." He offered homage to the Lord of the field, to the bearer of seed, to the one wielding the spear; to the noble phallus, the worthy of worship, the staff-bearer, and the one of harsh seed. He saluted the eldest, the best, the first and foremost; the venerable, the worshipful, the one born instantly. Homage was given to the dweller in caves, the Lord of vessels, the one whose garment is the sky; to the Lord of beings, from whom all begin. He saluted the Lord of the Vedas, the Lord of the Smṛtis, the Lord of actions and gifts, and the Lord of all substances. Homage was offered to the Lord of Yoga, the Lord of Sāṃkhya, and the Lord of sages who are firmly established. To the Lord of stars and planets, to the Lord of lightning, thunder, clouds, and roaring, homage was given. He saluted the Lord of the great oceans, the Lord of islands, the Lord of mountains, and the Lord of rains. Homage was offered to the Lord of rivers and streams, the Lord of great herbs, and the Lord of trees. To the tree of righteousness, to righteousness itself, to the Lord of all that abides, and to the Lord of the supreme beyond, homage was given. He saluted the Lord of tastes, the Lord of jewels, the Lord of moments, and the Lord of instants. Homage was offered to the Lord of days and nights, fortnights, months, seasons, and numbers. To the Lord of the other half of time and the supreme half, to the Lord of the Purāṇas and creations, homage was given. He saluted the Lord of the ages of Manu, the Lord of Yoga, the Lord of the fourfold creation, and the one with infinite vision. Homage was offered to the Lord of cycles of creation and dissolution, the Lord of winds, the Lord of the universe, and the Lord of Brahmā. Homage was given to the Lord of knowledge, learning, vows, and observances. To the Lord of mantras, the ancestors, and cattle, homage was offered. He saluted the bull of speech, the ancient bull, the Lord of cattle, and the one whose banner bears the bull and Indra's sign. Homage was given to the Lord of progenitors, the Lord of accomplishments, the Lord of Daityas and Dānavas, and the Lord of the Rākṣasas. Salutation was offered to the lord of Gandharvas, Yakshas, Garudas, serpents, and birds. He saluted the lord of all secret spirits and goblins, Gokarna the protector, and Shankukarna as well. Salutation was given to Varaha, the immeasurable one, to Riksha, to the stainless, to the lord of the gods, and the lord of hosts. Homage was offered to the lord of waters and strength, the lord of Lakshmi, Shripa, and the lord of the earth. Salutation was given to the one who embodies both strength and weakness, the unshakable and the shaker, the one with blazing or single horn, the bull, and the one with a hump. Homage was given to firmness, to his form, to the follower of brilliance, and to the one who is past, future, and present. Salutation was offered to the radiant, powerful, heroic, unconquered, bestower of boons, most excellent, the person, and the great soul. He saluted the being, the future, the great and mighty, asceticism, and the bestower of boons. Salutation was given to the minute and the great, the all-pervading, bondage, liberation, heaven, and hell. He saluted Bhava, the god, the sacrifice and the sacrificer, the one who rises up, the radiant, the principle, and the one beyond qualities. Homage was offered to the noose, the weapon, the ornament, the offered, the invoked, the well-offered, and the receiver of oblation. Salutation was given to the worshipped, fulfilled, the twice-born of Agnistoma, the member of the assembly, the recipient of sacrificial fee, and the ablution. Homage was offered to non-violence, non-greed, the mantras for cattle and herbs, the giver of nourishment, the virtuous, and the well-behaved. He saluted the one who is past, future, and present; the radiant, powerful, heroic, unconquered, bestower of boons, most excellent, the person, the great soul, the being, the future, the great, and the fearless. Salutation was given to Jarasiddha, the iron one, the bestower of boons, the lower, the great, and the lord of the six. Thus, with reverence and devotion, the hymn was sung, extolling the infinite forms and powers of the supreme Lord, whose glory encompasses all realms, beings, and qualities.
