He who is the possessor of three abodes, the ever-fortunate Śarva, is all-knowing and perceives all. He supports Brahma and is the very creator of the universe, heaven, and the lotus; he is beloved, the poet of the cosmos. He is the branch and the supreme branch, the branch of cows, ever-auspicious and not limited to one form. He is the sacrifice itself, the equal of all, bathed in the sacred waters of Gaṅgā. His existence pervades all forms, and he is the supreme architect, steadfast and unwavering. He has conquered himself and is perfectly self-controlled, the charioteer of all beings, always attended by his divine hosts, the Gaṇas, who adore him. His fame is pure, and he is utterly free from doubt. He is the god of desire and the protector of desire, his form smeared and adorned with sacred ashes. He delights in ashes, lies upon them, and yet is passionate and beloved, ever the knower of the scriptures. Though endowed with all, his soul is detached and righteous; he is ever-auspicious, sometimes four-faced, sometimes four-armed, difficult to approach and impossible to overcome. He is a fortress, hard to reach and obtain, master of all weapons, established in spiritual yoga, of noble lineage, and the one who increases the lineage of the wise. His form is auspicious, the very essence of all worlds. He is the lord of the universe, the eater of nectar, and the purifier who uses ashes. He is like the great mountain Meru, powerful and pure in form. Golden-seeded, he is the sun and a ray of light, the abode of greatness, the great ocean, the great womb, worshipped by hosts of perfected beings. He wears a tiger skin and is garlanded with serpents. He is the great element, the great treasure, with immortal limbs and immortal form. He is the fivefold sacrifice, the great disperser. He knows the twenty-five principles, is like a celestial tree, transcending high and low, yet easily attainable. He is of good vows, heroic, the sole treasure of speech, the treasure itself. He teaches all castes and stages of life. Adorned, he conquers enemies and torments foes. He is the hermitage, the ascetic, thin and wise, immovable among the immovable. He is the standard, difficult to know, Suparṇa, wind-borne, bearer of the bow, master of the science of archery, repository of all qualities, and a mine of virtues. His vision is infinite and blissful; he is the staff, the subduer, self-control itself, worthy of reverence, the great teacher and skillful maker of the universe. Freed from all passion, humble in soul, the ascetic, creator of beings, he sometimes wears the guise of madness, concealed from the world, conqueror of desire and affection. Auspicious in nature, he is the ordinance, lord of all worlds and beings, the ascetic, deliverer, wise master of the primordial and imperishable. He protects all worlds, his true self hidden, the origin of all cycles, lotus-eyed, knower of the true meaning of the Vedas and scriptures, the very discipline and refuge of discipline. He is the moon, the sun, Saturn, and Ketu; he is cessation, red-hued like coral, approachable through devotion. He is the supreme Brahman, bearer of the deer and arrow, sinless. He dwells upon the king of mountains, beloved and the supreme self, teacher of the world, unmoving in all actions, the fashioner, auspicious, and surrounded by auspiciousness. He is the great ascetic, enduring in austerity, massive, ancient, and constant. He is the day, the year, all-pervading, the measure, and the supreme penance. He is the maker of the year, the mantra, certainty, all-seeing, unborn, lord of all, gentle, of great seed and strength. He is the yogi, fit for yoga, of great seed, accomplished, the origin of all, giver of fire, wealthy, noble-minded, true, remover of all sins, the destroyer. Immortal, eternal, peaceful, he bears arrows, is powerful, holds the water-pot, is an archer, master of the Vedas, and sage who knows the Vedas. Radiant, he is both food and eater, leader of the worlds, hard to subdue, beyond the senses, of great illusion, dwelling in all, at the fourfold path. He is the yogi of time, the great sound, greatly energetic, of great strength, intellect, and heroism, moving among beings, destroyer of cities. He is the night-wanderer, moving among spirits, of great power and brilliance, of indescribable form, glorious and all-attracting, with an immeasurable course. Much-heard and manifold, self-controlled, source of Bhava, giver of vigor, splendor, and radiance, the dancer, fulfiller of all desires. Lover of dance, dancer and non-dancer, self-luminous, scorching, his words clear and wise, he is mantra, true honor, and the ocean of essence. He is the creator and revolver of the ages, profound, bull-bannered, desired, distinguished, honored by the noble, Sharabha, the bow. He is the treasure of waters, the foundation, victorious, knower of the time of victory, established, knower of measures, golden-armored, the tawny one. Radiant, leader of the gods, lord of knowledge, refuge of the wise, child-formed, subduer of the strong, revolving, unfathomable, teacher. He is instrument, cause, doer, liberator from all bonds, most learned, fearless, supporter of the universe, maker of night. He is resolve, foundation, giver of place, origin of the world, the drum, playful, all-pervading, whose essence is Bhava, established in the self. As lord of heroes, he is Virabhadra, slayer and supporter of heroes, the cosmic form, crest-jewel among heroes, knower, one with intense sound, bearer of rivers. He is the bearer of commands, wielder of the trident, pervading all, the abode of Shiva, Vālakhilya, great bow, blazing sun, imperishable treasure. Delightful and an excellent refuge, supremely learned, lord of nectar, Maghavan, Kauśika, possessor of cows, repose, ruler of all. Forehead-eyed, cosmic-bodied, essence, bearer of the wheel of existence, wielder of the unfailing staff, impartial, golden, radiant with Brahman’s splendor. He is the supreme truth and supreme strength, Shambara, tiger-eyed, fire, splendid, most excellent in radiance, worthy of praise, lord of speech, lord of day. He is the sun, the shining one, the support, teacher, son of Vivasvat, person, skill, renowned, with passions calmed, conqueror of defeat. He is lord of Kailāsa, enemy of Kāma, Savitṛ, sun-eyed, foremost among the wise, fearless, destroyer of the universe, unrestrained. Eternal and ever-auspicious, his fame is holy to hear, far-hearing, supporter of the universe, fit for meditation, destroyer of evil dreams. Thus, the glories and forms of the great Lord are sung—boundless and immeasurable, he is the refuge, the teacher, and the supreme self of all.
