With great reverence, I revealed these sacred truths to Vyāsa, beginning with heartfelt salutations to Śiva—the pure, spotless, and illustrious Lord. I bowed to the destroyer of the wicked, the all-pervading supreme soul, whose five faces, ten arms, and fifteen eyes radiate divine power. Śiva shines with the clarity of crystal, adorned in every ornament, all-knowing and peaceful, established above all as the highest. Seated upon a lotus throne, the lord of Soma—Īśāna, the Supreme Person, Aghora, and Sadyas—may he swiftly remove my sin. Blessed Vāmadeva, endless and sovereign, lord of all knowledge and giver of all, may he also dispel my impurities. Those who are accomplished in single-minded meditation upon Śiva, subtle lord of gods and demons, worshipped by the Gaṇas, may they remove my sin. The highest Śiva, greatly revered and devoted to meditation, may he cleanse me. The all-pervading, peaceful, one-eyed blessed lord who worships Śiva, may he dispel my sin. Trimūrti, the awakener of devotion to Śiva, glorious and accomplished in meditation, may he remove my impurity. Śrīkaṇṭha, the lord of fortune, always intent on meditation upon Śiva, may he dispel my sin. The glorious goddess, worshipped throughout the three worlds, ancient and radiant like the sun’s orb, may she remove my impurities. Again, the goddess, honored by all, ancient, with the form of the sun, may she cleanse me. Dākṣāyaṇī, the great goddess, Gaurī—the auspicious daughter of Himavat, elder sister of Ekaparṇā, gentle, and Ekapāṭalā—may she remove my sin. Aparṇā, the boon-giving goddess, ever intent on granting blessings, Umā, remover of gods, or Kauśikī, or Kapardinī, may she dispel my impurities. The divine bearer of the khaṭvāṅga, with hands like tender shoots, surrounded by four divine sons such as Naigameya, may she remove my sin. Nandinī, daughter of Menā, lotus-born and lotus-eyed, child of the sorrowless Ambā and the noble Nandin, may she cleanse me. The peaceful friend of Śubhāvatī, bestower of boons, Pañcacūḍā—who, for the creation of all beings, has attained the imperishable state of primordial nature—may she remove my sin. Manifested through the twenty-three principles beginning with Mahat, always honored by powers like Lakṣmī, she is Nandanandinī, may she cleanse me. Manonmanī, the great goddess, mistress of illusion, fond of adornment, by her māyā encompasses the entire world, from Brahmā onward, both moving and unmoving. She agitates and enchants, ever abiding in the hearts of yogis, existing as one and many, her eyes like blue lotuses. Ever praised by all gods with supreme devotion—by Ganesha, the Lotus-born, Indra, Yama, Kubera, and others—she is their mother, extolled as destroyer of calamities and suffering, auspicious, and remover of all states of existence and becoming. The divine giver of enjoyment and liberation, she grants these effortlessly to devotees; may that great goddess directly dispel my sin. Canda, lord of all hosts, emerged from the mouth of Shambhu, devoted to Shiva-worship, glorious, may he dispel my sin. The son of Shalankayana, arisen from the plough, the lord, son-in-law of the Maruts, god, supreme lord of all beings, may he cleanse me. All-pervading, all-seeing Sharva, master resembling the lord of all, with the gods—Narayana, Indra, Chandra, and the sun—may he dispel my sin. With Siddhas, Yakshas, Gandharvas, spirits, creators of beings, serpents, sages, and the great-souled Brahma, praised as lord of the three worlds, sage dwelling within the city, always worshipped by all—may Nandi cleanse me. Of great form and brilliance, another like Mahadeva, devoted to Shiva-worship, glorious, may he remove my impurity. Breaker of the peaks of Meru, Mandara, Kailasa, and other ridges, worshipped by divine elephants like Airavata and the guardians of the directions, may he cleanse me. With feet in the seven netherworlds, thighs spanning the seven continents, tusks in the seven oceans, and Shiva as the womb of all sacred waters; with a body of sky, arms as the directions, and eyes of moon, sun, and fire, destroyer of great demon-trees, mighty in Brahman’s supreme knowledge; bound by divine ropes of Brahma and others, equipped with yogic bonds, tied to the lotus of the heart, restraining activity—may he dispel my sin. He whose face is that of the serpent king, surrounded by hundreds of millions of hosts, accomplished in meditation on Shiva, may he directly cleanse me. Bhringi, with tawny eyes, covered in ashes, possessing a body, devoted to Shiva-worship, glorious, may he remove my impurity. With four bodies always, destroyer of all demons, Skanda, bearer of the spear, tranquil commander, riding the peacock, glorious leader of the divine army—may he dispel my sin. Bhava, Sharva, Ishana, Rudra, and Pashupati—fierce, formidable, Mahadeva, always devoted to Shiva-worship—may these supreme forms dispel sin. Mahādeva, Śiva, Rudra, Śaṅkara, Nīlalohita, Īśāna, Vijaya, Bhīma, Devadeva, Bhavodbhava, Kapālīśa and the Rudras born from Rudra’s essence, endowed with Shiva’s salutation—may they remove my impurity. Thus, I invoked the grace of these divine beings, seeking their power to dispel all sin and grant auspiciousness, liberation, and the highest blessings.
