He is Prabhāsa, the radiant mountain; he is the wind that moves unseen; he is Aryaman, the noble guardian, Savitṛ and Ravi, the shining sun, Dhṛti, the steadfast, Vidhātā, the ordainer, Māndhātā, and the very creator of all beings. He is Nīrastīrtha, and Bhīma, mighty and awe-inspiring, the performer of all acts, the bearer of every virtue. His womb is the lotus, vast and great, his face like the moon, his form as boundless as the sky, untouched by sin. He is powerful yet tranquil, ancient and wise, foremost in merit, even the maker of cruelty and the one who dwells in cruel places. Subtle is his self, yet he is the great medicine, the healer of all. He is the abode of every being, moving everywhere, the lord of life, master of all living things, god of gods, delighting in happiness, knowing all that exists and all that does not, the possessor of every jewel. He dwells on Kailāsa, resides in deep caves, and takes refuge in the snowy Himālaya. He is both the destroyer and creator of lineages, wealthy, and father to many children. As lord of life, he is the binder, the tree, the mongoose, the mountain-dweller, short-necked, great-kneed, unwavering, and again, the great medicine. He is the maker of doctrines, accomplished in every aim, the source of meter and grammar. His roar is like a lion’s, his fangs and face are leonine, and his mount, too, is the lion. He is of powerful essence, the time of the world, time itself, trembling, tree-bodied, antelope-marked, bannered, and of keen insight. He is the abode and lord of all beings, day and night, both impure and pure, the bearer of wealth, the very soul of all beings, unmoving and learned. He is not a friend to all, unmoving, knower of the moving and unmoving, unfailing, self-controlled, joyful, the food and sustainer of all life. He is steadfast and wise, three-eyed, doer of good, lord of battles, protector and lord of cows, the village itself, clothed in cowhide, and known as Hara. His arms are golden, he dwells in caves, he is the entrance, great-minded, possessed of great desire, ever seeking the mind, and conqueror of the senses. He is Gandhara, drinker of wine, devoted to ascetic practices that benefit all, the great element, supporter of beings, ever attended by hosts of Apsaras. His banner is great, he supports the earth, always engaged in manifold forms, the tone itself, unknowable yet knowable, all-pervading and bringer of happiness. He is the deliverer, the one with feet, the creator, the enclosure, the highly worshipped, the uniter, the increaser, the aged, the courtesan, and the lord of hosts. Eternal, supporter, companion, lord of gods and asuras, the master, endowed, strong-armed, the excellent god, and of auspicious joints. He is Ashadha and Sushadha, the bearer of Skanda, green, the remover, revolving in form, of another form, of supreme and great form. He touches the head, adorned with every mark and characteristic, imperishable, praised in the songs of charioteers, enjoyer of all pleasures, and of immense strength. He is of the Sāma Veda, and of the great Veda, god of sacred fords, of great fame, lifeless yet giver of life, the mantra, gracious, and very severe. His nature is like gems, his limbs like jewels, the knower of the fall into the great ocean, the root, vast, immortal, manifest and unmanifest, the treasure of austerity. He is ascent and mounting, bearer of virtue, of great austerity, great-throated, great yogi, the yoke, maker of ages, the remover. He is of the form of the age, of great form, the vehicle, the deep, the mountain, justice, extinguisher, footless, learned, and like the immovable. He is adorned with countless garlands, shining with beauty, his eyes radiant, vast as the saline ocean, the well, flower-bodied, the very source of fruits. He is the bull, the strong bull, the breaker, with matted locks adorned with jewels, the moon, emission, beautiful-faced, heroic, armed with every weapon, enduring. He is the one to whom offerings are made, born of nectar, the gate to heaven, of great bow, dwelling in the mountain, emission, and knower of all marks and characteristics. He is adorned with fragrant garlands, the blessed one, endless, possessing every mark, the progenitor, abundant, strong-armed, complete, purifier of all. He holds a hand-bowl, bears a skull, his upper teeth joined, youthful, renowned for machines and devices, the world itself, the refuge of all, gentle and kind. He is shaven-headed, deformed, monstrous, staff-bearing, earringed, ever-changing, water-eyed, the quarters, wielder of the thunderbolt, blazing in brilliance, and thousand-footed. He is thousand-headed, lord of gods, composed of all gods, the teacher, thousand-armed, of all limbs, the refuge, and creator of all worlds. Pure, the threefold sweet mantra, the youngest, dark-tawny, creator of Brahma’s staff, destroyer of hundreds, bearer of a hundred nooses. He is Kala, kashtha, lava, matra, muhurta, day, night, kshana; giver of the field of the universe, the seed, the primal linga, the one without faces. Existence and non-existence, manifest and unmanifest, father, mother, grandfather; the gate to heaven, the gate to liberation, the gate to creation, the threefold heaven. He is liberation, the heart, the world of Brahma, the supreme path; creator of gods and asuras, the ultimate refuge of gods and asuras. Teacher of gods and asuras, god, worshipped by gods and asuras, the great minister of gods and asuras, the refuge of their hosts. He is the overseer and leader of the hosts of gods and asuras, god of gods, divine seer, bestower of boons to gods and asuras. Lord of gods and asuras, Vishnu, great lord of gods and asuras, composed of all gods, inconceivable, the soul of divinities, self-born. He is risen up, three-stepped, physician, bestower of boons, the younger, sky-clad, worshipped, elephant, tiger, lion of the gods, the great bull. Foremost among the wise, best of gods, supreme among the gods of heaven, united, splendid, a speaker, origin of the directions, imperishable. He is the teacher, beloved, his own creation, pure, bearer of all, horned, fond of horns, tawny, king of kings, and free from disease. Charming, excellent refuge, free from affliction, the means of all, with a forehead eye, body of the universe, deer, possessing the radiance of Brahma. Such is his nature—limitless, encompassing all forms and truths, the ever-present refuge and foundation of the worlds.
