In the sacred narrative, the Lord is revealed in countless forms and attributes, each a facet of His boundless nature. He abides deep within causes, Himself the cause of all, known as Nandi, the giver of joy and remover of obstacles, lord of Nandi, ever joyful, the son of Nandi, and destroyer of poison. He removes fortune, restrains, embodies Time, is the grandsire of worlds, four-faced, manifest as the great liṅga and the beautiful liṅga. He oversees the liṅga, the gods, and Time itself, brings forth ages, oversees and makes seeds, and is the subtle power following the inner self. He is history and sacred ordinance, the subduer, lord of the world, the maker and embodiment of hypocrisy, the giver, the lineage and its maker, and Kali. He is creator of worlds, lord of beasts, the great creator, transcendent, imperishable, supreme Brahman, powerful, and praised by the wise. He is eternal, subject to none, pure in soul and essence, the mind, the path, the offering, the abode, strength, pride, the mirror, the oblation, and the conqueror of Indra. He is the creator of the Vedas and composer of the Sūtras, wise and supreme subduer, dweller in great clouds, exceedingly fierce, master of enchantment. He blazes with fire, radiates great flame, enveloped in smoke, radiant as the sun, inspirer, ever auspicious, powerful, with smoky eyes. His form is dark-hued, with concealed limbs, splendid, appearing in human form, inherently auspicious, enjoyer, bestower of enjoyment, swift. He embraces all, has great limbs and vast womb, full of splendor, dark-complexioned and golden, master of the senses, of all colors. He possesses great feet, hands, body, fame, head, measure, is a great friend, and dwells among mountains. His shoulders, ears, lips, jaw, nose, throat, neck are all great, and he dwells in cremation grounds. His strength and brilliance are immense; he is the inner self, abode of beasts, with hanging lips, steadfast, master of illusion, and ocean of milk. He bears great teeth, fangs, tongue, mouth, nails, hair, locks, and matted hair. Without rival, he is gracious and trustworthy, accomplished in song, sweating and unsweating, primordial, and a great sage. He is the bull, bearer of the bull-banner, fire, carrier of wind, circular, dweller on Meru, and rides a divine vehicle. With Atharva as his head, Sāma as his mouth, thousand-eyed with Rig, Yajur as his feet and arms, he is both secret and manifest, full of vigor. He bestows unfailing purpose, pervades within, is beautiful to behold, the offering, beloved by all, golden, established in gold. He is the navel, bringer of joy, mansion, lotus, architect, established, master of all scriptures, first among the wealthy, sacrifice, sacrificer, and concentrated. He is the mountain, dark-hued, poet, time, makara, worshipped by time, accompanied by attendants, creator of attendants, charioteer of the hosts of beings. He lies in ashes, protects ashes, his body is made of ashes, is scripture, dissolution, great soul, worshipped by all. He is white, possessing the form of a woman, pure, served by beings, dwelling in hermitage, residing among pigeons, universal craftsman, lord, and cosmic. With vast branches, copper-colored lips, lotus-netted, firmly resolved, tawny, pitcher-like, massive, weapon-bearing, and hairy, he is Gandharva, Aditi, Tārkṣya, unknowable, of excellent intellect, wielding the axe as weapon, divine, fulfiller of purpose, and good friend. He is Tumbavīṇā, of great wrath, upward-flowing seed, the lord who lies in the waters; fierce, maker of bamboo, bamboo itself, player of the bamboo flute, and blameless. He takes all forms, master of illusion, true friend, the wind, strength itself, binder, maker of bonds, liberator from strong bonds. He is slayer of demons, enemy of desire, with great fangs and mighty weapons, pendant, hanging lips, long-armed, bestower of boons. His arm is blameless and all-pervading; he is Śaṅkara, never angered, lord of immortals, exceedingly terrible, universal god, destroyer of the gods’ enemies. He is Ahirbudhnya, Nirṛti, Cekitāna, Halin, Ajaikapāda, Kāpālī, Śaṃ, Kumāra, and the great mountain. He is Dhanvantari, Dhūmaketu, the Sun, Vaiśravaṇa, Dhātā, Viṣṇu, Śakra, Mitra, Tvaṣṭṛ, Dhara, and Dhruva. He is Prabhāsa, the mountain, the wind, Aryaman, Savitṛ, Ravi, Dhṛti, Vidhātā, Māndhātā, and creator of beings. He is Nīrastīrtha, Bhīma, performer of all acts, bearer of virtues, lotus-wombed, of great womb, moon-faced, sky, and sinless. He is powerful and tranquil, ancient, foremost doer of merit, maker of cruelty, dweller in cruel places, subtle self, and the great medicine. He is the abode of all, moving everywhere, lord of life, master of living beings, god of gods, delighting in happiness, knower of all that is and is not, possessor of all jewels. He dwells on Kailāsa, lives in caves, takes refuge in the Himālaya, destroyer of lineages, creator of lineages, wealthy, father of many children. He is lord of life, binder, tree, mongoose, mountain-dweller, short-necked, great-kneed, unwavering, and the great medicine. He is maker of doctrines, accomplished in aims, source of meter and grammar, lion-roaring, lion-fanged, lion-faced, lion-mounted. Of powerful essence, time of the world, time itself, trembling, tree-bodied, antelope-marked, bannered, and of good insight. He is the abode of beings, lord of beings, day and night, impure and pure, bearer of wealth, soul of all beings, unmoving, and well-learned. He is not a friend to all beings, unmoving, knower of the moving and unmoving, unfailing, self-controlled, joyful, food, and sustainer of life. Thus, the Lord is all—manifest and unmanifest, fierce and gentle, creator and destroyer, the very essence and sustenance of the universe, revered by all, and beyond all comprehension.
