He is the great, unborn Lord, the radiant source from whom all radiance springs, the creator of all. His mighty arms wield a hundred-bladed missile, a sword, a spear, and countless other weapons. He appears with a turban crowning his beautiful face, exalted yet humble, tall, with tawny hair, marked by excellent sanctity, and a complexion dark as the raincloud. He takes many forms: that of a jackal, a lion, a tiger, and even a deer. He is the essence of all, sometimes shaven-headed, sometimes with matted locks, always the bringer of auspiciousness and fragrance. His seed flows upward, his emblem points to the heavens, and he lies upward, abiding in the sky, his hair braided thrice, clothed in bark. He is Rudra, lord of armies, all-pervading. He is both day and night, the nocturnal wanderer, fierce in wrath and radiant, slayer of elephants, destroyer of demons, time itself, the sustainer of worlds, and the repository of all qualities. He dons the hides of lions and tigers, wears moist skins as garments, is the master of time, the great sound that dwells everywhere, and is present at every crossroads. By night he moves, wandering among the dead, seeing all, the great lord manifesting in countless forms, exceedingly wealthy, the very essence of all, and the lord of immortality. He delights in dance, ever-dancing, the supreme dancer, accomplishing all, armed with a bow, great-armed, exceedingly fierce, and steadfast in austerity. He is the great arrow, the great noose, eternal, known as the mountain-dweller, thousand-armed, victorious, resolute, and blameless. Unyielding and patient by nature, he destroys sacrifice and desire, slays Daksha, attends, laughs, and remains moderate. He removes brilliance, is powerful and renowned, ever-rising, manifold, endowed with a deep voice, of yogic nature, and a destroyer of sacrifice and desire. His wrath is deep, his nature profound, his vehicle mighty. He is the form and substance of the banyan tree, the maker and enjoyer of the universe. Skilled in sharp means, he rides tawny horses, is a companion, knower of the right moment, appeased Vishnu, sacrifice, the ocean, and the submarine fire. He is the companion of fire, tranquil of mind, fire itself, fierce in energy, victorious, and knower of the time of victory. He is the abode of light, accomplishment, peace, and conflict; armed with a sword, conch-holder, matted-haired, flaming, sky-walker, space-traveler, and strong. He plays the lute, drums, is time itself, dark-throated and dread-throated, starry in form, existence and non-existence, with faces in all directions. He is the liberator, the refuge, born with golden armor, girdle-like in form, water-dweller, and praised by all. He is the player of the lute, drummer, cymbalist, flutist, and reed-pipe player—the sound of all instruments, all-pervading, unattached. He takes the form of a serpent, dwells in burrows and caves, moves with the waves, is a tree, performs auspicious acts, and liberates from all bonds. He is the bondage of the lords of gods in battle, destroyer of enemies, friend, exile, difficult to attain, served by all the virtuous. He is Praskanda, Avibhāva, equal, knower of sacrificial portions, dwelling and moving everywhere, difficult to approach, and regarded as Vāsava. He is golden, the maker of gold, the sacrifice, the supporter of all, the best of mountains, the sky, formless, exiled, a serpent, and a bird. He is a mendicant, takes the form of a mendicant, fierce yet beautiful, with radiant seed, eloquent, swift as the wind, and of great strength. His movement is as swift as thought, he moves by night, bestows auspiciousness on all worlds, dwells everywhere, abides in the three Vedas, gives instruction, and is the earth itself. He is a sage, the soul, the world, fortunate, the thousand-eater, a bird, exceedingly radiant, and the maker of night. He is the wind, takes the form of Damanaka, is wealth and the giver of wealth, self-controlled, Vāsudeva, Deva, Vāmadeva, and Vāmana. He is the remover of yogic accomplishments, accomplished, fulfiller of all aims, unbroken, yet sometimes takes a broken form, virile, gentle, and imperishable. He is Mahāsena, Viśākha, the sixth part, lord of cows, wielder of the discus, supporter, and root-support. He is the season, maker of seasons, the palm tree, sweet, the honey-maker, excellent, of the forest, the seat of strength, and always honored in hermitages. He is a celibate, moves among worlds and everywhere, knows good conduct, is Īśāna the Lord, Time, ever-moving by night, and has many forms of vision. He abides in causes, is the cause, is Nandi, giver of joy, remover, lord of Nandi, joyful, son of Nandi, and destroyer of poison. He is the remover of fortune, the restrainer, Time, grandsire of worlds, four-faced, the great liṅga, and also the beautiful liṅga. He is the overseer of the liṅga, of the gods, of Time, bringer of ages, overseer and maker of seeds, and the power following the inner self. He is history, sacred ordinance, subduer, lord of the world, hypocrisy and its maker, the giver, the lineage, maker of lineage, and Kali. He is the creator of worlds, lord of beasts, the great creator, transcendent, imperishable, the supreme Brahman, powerful, and praised by the wise. He is eternal, subject to no lord, pure in soul, pure, the mind, the path, the offering, the abode, strength, pride, the mirror, the oblation, and the conqueror of Indra. He is the creator of the Vedas, composer of the Sūtras, wise and supreme subduer, dweller in great clouds, exceedingly fierce, master of enchantment. He blazes with fire, with great flames, enveloped in smoke, radiant as the sun, inspirer, ever auspicious, powerful, with smoky eyes. Dark-hued, with concealed limbs, splendid, in human form, auspicious by nature, enjoyer, bestower of enjoyment, swift. He is embracing, of great limbs, vast womb, full of splendor, dark-complexioned, golden, master of the senses, and of all colors. Such is the Lord, the one of infinite forms and glories, ever present in all that is, the supreme refuge and the source of all creation.
