In the sacred narrative, the Blessed One is described as dwelling in cremation grounds, roaming the skies and moving across the earth, a formidable presence who inspires reverence. He is the performer of great deeds, an ascetic whose very existence supports all beings. Sometimes, he assumes the guise of a madman, hidden from sight; yet he is the universe itself, the lord of all creatures, vast in form and fame, manifesting every shape and size. His soul is great, present in all beings and taking on countless forms: dwarf, man, protector of the worlds. Though his true self remains hidden, he is gracious and bestows fearlessness, pervading everything. Pure and mighty, he is disciplined and the refuge of the disciplined. Self-born, he is the originator and the treasure, the beginning of all. He is thousand-eyed and wide-eyed, Soma, the accomplisher of the stars, the moon, the sun, Śani, Ketu, the planet, and regarded as the lord of planets. As king and the cause of kingdoms' rise, he acts and shoots arrows at deer; he is a cloud, long in penance and unseen, bestowing wealth. He is the year, the possessor of sacred formulas, master of breath-control, supreme ascetic, yogī and yoga itself, the great seed, the great chariot, and the source of great strength. His seed is golden and excellent; he is all-knowing, bull-bannered, ten-armed, unblinking, blue-throated, and the husband of Umā. His form is universal, supreme and mighty, foremost in strength. He is the creator and lord of the Gaṇas, clothed with directions, desired by all. He knows all mantras, is the supreme mantra, creator of all beings, Hara, holder of the water-pot, archer, bearer of arrows, and skull-bearer. Armed with a hundred-bladed missile, sword, spear, and many weapons, he is the great one, unborn, with the form of a deer, the radiance that gives radiance, and the creator. Turbaned, with a beautiful face, exalted yet humble, tall, with tawny hair and excellent sanctity, he is also dark in complexion. He takes the form of a jackal, is the essence of all, shaven-headed, the bringer of auspiciousness, with the forms of lion and tiger, fragrance-giver, and also with matted locks. His seed flows upward, his emblem points upward, he lies upwards, abides in the sky, three-braided, clothed in bark, Rudra, lord of armies, all-pervading. He is day and night, nocturnal, of fierce wrath and radiant, slayer of elephants and destroyer of demons, time, sustainer of worlds, and repository of qualities. He assumes the forms of lion and tiger, wears moist hides as garments, is the master of time, the great sound, dwelling everywhere, present at crossroads. He moves by night, wanders among the dead, sees all, is the great lord manifesting in many forms, exceedingly wealthy, the essence of all, and lord of immortality. He delights in dance, ever-dancing, the dancer, accomplisher of all, armed with a bow, great-armed, exceedingly fierce, and of great austerity. He is the great arrow, the great noose, eternal, known as the mountain-dweller, thousand-armed, victorious, resolute, and blameless. Unyielding and patient, he is the destroyer of sacrifice and desire, slayer of Daksha, attendant, laughing, and moderate. He is the remover of brilliance, powerful, renowned, ever-rising, manifold, of deep voice, yogic by nature, destroyer of sacrifice and desire. Of deep wrath and profound, his vehicle is of great strength; he is in the form of the banyan tree, the banyan itself, maker and enjoyer of the universe. Skilled in sharp means, with tawny horses, he is a companion, knower of the time for action, appeased Vishnu, sacrifice, the ocean, and the submarine fire. Companion of fire, tranquil-minded, fire itself, fierce and victorious, he knows the time of victory. He is the abode of light, accomplishment, peace, and conflict; armed with a sword, conch-holder, matted-haired, flaming, sky-walker, space-traveler, and strong. Player of the lute, drummer, time, dark-throated, with a dreadful throat, starry form, existence, non-existence, and faces in all directions. He is liberator and refuge, born with golden armor, of girdle-like form, water-dweller, and praised. Player of the lute, drummer, cymbalist, flutist, and reed-pipe; the sound of all instruments, all-pervading and unattached. He takes the form of a serpent, dwells in burrows, abides in caves, moves with the waves, is a tree, performs auspicious acts, and liberates from all bonds. He is the bondage of the lords of gods in battle, destroyer of enemies, friend, exile, difficult to attain, served by all the virtuous. He is Praskanda and Avibhāva, equal, knower of sacrificial portions, dwelling and moving everywhere, difficult to approach, and regarded as Vāsava. Golden, maker of gold, sacrifice, supporter of all, best of mountains, sky, formless, exiled, serpent, and bird. He is a mendicant, takes the form of a mendicant, fierce yet beautiful, radiant seed, speaks well, swift as the wind, of great strength. Swift as thought, moving at night, bestowing auspiciousness upon all worlds, dwelling everywhere, abiding in the three Vedas, giver of instruction, and the earth. He is a sage, the soul, the world itself, fortunate, thousand-eater, bird, takes the form of a bird, exceedingly radiant, and maker of night. He is the wind, takes the form of Damanaka, wealth, giver of wealth, self-controlled, Vāsudeva, Deva, Vāmadeva, and Vāmana. Remover of yogic accomplishments, accomplished, fulfiller of all aims, unbroken, takes a broken form, virile, gentle, and imperishable. He is Mahāsena, Viśākha, the sixth part, lord of cows, wielder of the discus, supporter, and root-support. He is the season, maker of seasons, palm tree, sweet, honey-maker, excellent, of the forest, seat of strength, always honored in hermitages. Celibate, moves among worlds, moves everywhere, knows good conduct, Īśāna, the Lord, Time, moves at night, and has many forms of vision. Thus is the wondrous, multifaceted, ever-present Lord, whose forms and qualities encompass all that exists and all that can be imagined.
