When the seventeenth cycle of time unfolds in its destined order, a Vyasa will arise bearing the name Devakṛtañjaya. In that era, I too shall be present, known as Guhavāsin, dwelling in a delightful, lofty, and magnificent abode upon the very peak of the Himalayas. That sacred place will become a field of supreme accomplishment—a great and holy abode. There, my sons will be born, wise in the ways of yoga and speakers of Brahman. These sons—Utathya, Vamadeva, and the mighty, great yogi—will be noble souls, free from possessiveness and pride. At that time, a hundred thousand disciples will gather, devoted to meditation and yoga, all deeply absorbed in their practice. With Maheshvara enshrined in their hearts, perceiving the established sanctuary, they will attain the state of Shiva. Even in the final age of Kali, those pure-minded souls who fix their minds in meditation and possess clear intellect will, by my grace, reach the world of Rudra. Freed from suffering, they will attain the holy and great abode, having witnessed the supreme state of Maheshvara. Indeed, when such a being crosses over, ten ancestors before and ten descendants after are also liberated; with himself as the twenty-first, he attains the great abode. By my grace, they will reach the world of Rudra, free from affliction. When the eighteenth cycle arrives, a sage named Ṛtañjaya Vyāsa will be born. At that time, I too will be present, bearing the name Śikhaṇḍī. In the sacred field of accomplishment, a place greatly meritorious and worshipped by gods and demons alike, upon the delightful peak of Himavat, stands the mountain Śikhaṇḍī. There also lies the forest of Śikhaṇḍin, frequented by accomplished beings, where my sons, rich in austerity, will be born. Vācaśravā, Ṛcīka, and Śyāvāśva—the lordly ascetic—these great souls, established in yoga and accomplished in the Vedas, will be present. Having attained the yoga of Maheśvara, they will merge into the world of Rudra. When the nineteenth cycle dawns, Vyāsa will be known as the great sage Bharadvāja, and I too will appear as Jaṭāmālī. On the delightful peak of Himavat, where the mountain Jaṭāyur stands, my sons will again be born, full of energy—Hiraṇyanābha, the Kauśalya, Lokākṣī, and Kuthumi—lords established in yogic discipline and of noble lineage. Having attained the yoga of Maheśvara, they too will be established in the world of Rudra. As the twentieth cycle arrives, Gautama will become Vyāsa, the great sage. I will be present as Aṭṭahāsa. At that time, men devoted to Aṭṭahāsa will flourish, and on the slope of Himavat, the great mountain Aṭṭahāsa stands. Attended by gods, demons, yakṣa lords, siddhas, and celestial beings, my sons will again be born there, full of great energy—Sumantu, Barbarī, the learned Kabandha, and Kuśikaṃdhara—yogic, great-souled, meditative, and steadfast in their vows. Having attained the yoga of Maheśvara, they will go to the world of Rudra. When the twenty-first cycle arrives, Vyāsa will be remembered as Vācaśravā, the best of sages. I will be present as Dāruka. From him, the holy and auspicious Devadāru forest will arise, and there too, my sons will be born, full of great energy—Plaksha, Darbhayana, Ketuman, and Gautama—great souls devoted to yoga, self-controlled, and steadfast in celibacy. Having undertaken the vow of lifelong celibacy, they will attain the world of Rudra. In the twenty-second cycle, Vyasa will be Shushmayana. At that time, I will be present in Varanasi as Langali Bhima, a great sage, where the gods along with Indra reside. In that age of Kali, those present will see me and also Balarama, the wielder of the plough. There, my sons will be born, righteous in conduct—Bhallavi, Madhu-pinga, Shvetaketu, and Kusha—who, having attained the Maheshvara yoga, will be devoted to meditation. Pure and established in Brahman, they will attain the world of Rudra. When the twenty-third cycle arrives, and the sage Trinabindu appears, Vyasa will be born, and I too will be born again as Shveta, of great stature and a righteous son of a sage. There, I will dwell until old age on the best of mountains, which will then be known as Kalanjara. My disciples—Ushika, Brihadashva, Devala, and Kavir—will be ascetics. Having attained the Maheshvara yoga, they too will reach the world of Rudra. In the twenty-fourth cycle, when Vyasa is Riksha, I will again be present at the end of the Kali age as the great yogi Shuli, in Naimisha, revered by the gods. There, my disciples—Shalihotra, Agnivesha, Yuvanashva, and Sharadvasa—will be ascetics rich in austerity. They too, by that same path, will be established in the world of Rudra. When the twenty-fifth cycle arrives, Vasishtha will become Vyasa, known as Shakti, and I too will be present as Dandi, the lord of ascetics. Thus, through the cycles of time, I remain present, guiding, uplifting, and bestowing the path to the world of Rudra for all who walk the way of yoga and righteousness.
