In the unfolding cycles of time, those who have attained the path of meditation, excelling in ascetic power and skilled in granting both boons and curses, proceed forward along the way prescribed by yoga. These ascetics, steadfast in their discipline, journey to the world of Rudra—a realm where return is exceedingly rare. When the tenth Dvapara arrives, Vyasa will be known as Tripadvai. At that time, I too shall become a sage, dwelling upon the beautiful peak of the Himalayas, on the eminent mountain called Bhrigutunga, the summit of Bhrigu, renowned and worshipped by the gods. There, my sons—Balabandhu, Niramitra, Ketushringa, and Tapodhana—will be steadfast in their vows. Endowed with yoga and great austerity, their sins burned away by penance, they too will reach the world of Rudra. In the eleventh Dvapara, when Vyasa is called Trivrata, I shall appear at the gateway of the Ganga in the Kali age, bearing the name Ugra, radiant and renowned across all worlds. My sons in that era—Lambodara, Lambaksha, Lambakesha, and Pralambaka—will attain the Maheshvara yoga and proceed to the world of Rudra. As the twelfth cycle dawns and the sage Shatateja, foremost among poets, becomes Vyasa, I shall appear at the end of the age in the forest called Haituka, known by the name Atri. There, my sons—smeared with ashes from their baths, great yogis devoted to Rudra’s world—will be all-knowing, accomplished in every way, and having attained the Maheshvara yoga, they will go to the world of Rudra. When the thirteenth cycle arrives, and Vyasa named Dharma Narayana appears, I shall become the great sage Vali, residing in the holy hermitage of the Valakhilyas on Mount Gandhamadana. My sons—Sudhama, Kashyapa, Vasistha, and Viraja—will be rich in austerity and endowed with great yoga, pure, with their seed raised upward. Having attained the Maheshvara yoga, they too will reach Rudra’s world. In the fourteenth cycle, when Vyasa named Tarakshu appears, I shall again manifest at the end of the age in the most excellent lineage of the Angirasas. Gautama, by name, will arise, and the forest named Gautama will be greatly auspicious. There, my sons—Atri, Devasada, Shravan, and Shravisthaka—will be born in the Kali age. All these great souls, whose essence is yoga and who are endowed with supreme yoga, will go to Rudra’s world. When the fifteenth cycle arrives and Vyasa, known as Traiyyāruni, appears in Dvapara, I shall be present as Vedaśirā, a twice-born, wielding the supreme weapon called Vedaśira. There will be a mountain of great might named Vedaśīrṣa, situated on the back of the Himalayas in the Sarasvati region. My sons—Kuṇi, Kuṇibāhu, Kuśarīra, and Kunetraka—will be ascetics rich in austerity, their essence yoga, their seed flowing upward, and having attained the supreme yoga of Maheshvara, they will go to Rudra’s world. When Vyasa appears in the sixteenth cycle as a divine being, granting yoga to the devoted and self-controlled, I shall be present as Gokarna. There will be a supremely holy forest called Gokarna, and my sons—Kashyapa, Ushanas, Cyavana, and Brihaspati—will be yogis. Following the same path, endowed with meditation and yoga, they will attain the supreme yoga of Maheshvara and go to Rudra. With the seventeenth cycle, Vyasa named Devakṛtañjaya will appear. I shall be present as Guhavāsin, residing in a delightful, lofty abode on the Himalayan peak. This field of accomplishment, supremely holy, will become a great abode. My sons will be knowers of yoga and speakers of Brahman—great souls, free from possessiveness and pride: Utathya, Vamadeva, and the mighty, great yogi. At that time, a hundred thousand disciples will practice meditation and yoga, all absorbed in their practice, having placed Maheshvara in their hearts and seeing the established abode in the great sanctuary. They attain the state of Shiva. In the final age of Kali, those other great souls who fix their minds in meditation, pure and with clear intellect, by my grace, will go to the world of Rudra. Free from suffering, they reach the holy great abode and see the supreme state of Maheshvara. By crossing over, each being causes ten ancestors before and ten descendants after to cross; liberating himself as the twenty-first, he attains the great abode. By my grace, they go to the world of Rudra, free from affliction. And so, O Lord, when the eighteenth cycle arrives, the journey continues.
